How Bad is t0mmy? (details inside)

----- Cin and Mooch ------- Yugo (front), t0mmy (left), Jonix (right)

Tournament Anecdote Go!
It's the end of April, t0mmy is sitting on a fold-out chair, the bright-green artificial grass under him contrasts directly with his all black attire.  He has just finished playing a friendly of Brawl with someone.

"t0mmy," he is addressed, "sandbag level today?"  It's an honest question, since t0mmy's playing fluctuates from being the worst player in Oregon to Ultra-Mammoth Beast Mode ... depending on his mood.

t0mmy just shrugs - his verbal response is as stentorian as his previous gesture.  I couldn't make out what he said, but the gist was obviously conveyed: "meh".  He went on to further elucidate on the subject by performing sub-par in Doubles grumbling about his controller to no one in particular.

In singles t0mmy continued his stellar performance of mediocrity by taking 5th, dropping games to Brick and Pwneroni.  Brick had previously got mad at t0mmy during Doubles calling him inconsistent after losing to him, but took things in stride after winning in Singles.

(Note: Singles\Doubles had no monetary payout)

Here's where things get epic!

After the tourney, t0mmy and I were asked to do crews.  It sounded like fun since most of the state's best players were there.  t0mmy said he'd join if Tuen lent him his controller.*

*This is noteworthy since Tuen has an awesome white GCN controller (and the last time t0mmy got his hands on one of these he beat Felix\Jem at GameClucks).

The crews would be a good ol' North vs South:

NOregon
Pwneroni (starter)
Viviff
Brick
Moochero

SOregon
t0mmy (starter)
t1mmy
Tuen
Jonix

FIGHT!

t0mmy  vs Pwneroni
 to
This match lasted about 3 minutes with t0mmy winning pretty solidly with 2-stocks remaining.

t0mmy vs Viviff
 to
The first stock started off as rape.  t0mmy combo'd Viviff so quickly and fluidly that I don't even remember what happened.  One moment Meta Knight was ready to pounce and the next he was off the left side of the stage while t0mmy was "Bish Canceling" into laser snipe finish.  Despite the stock difference, t0mmy wins with 1 stock remaining.

t0mmy vs Brick
to
It was expected for Brick to win this one... but could he do it while keeping all three of his stock?  He did beat t0mmy in Singles bracket after all.  The first stock was pretty fail with Brick killing himself at 10% off the bottom.  Things were getting pretty hype when t0mmy managed to take off the 2nd stock, bringing the stock count even but with t0mmy over 100%.  Brick's final stock was spent taking a serious of attacks from t0mmy's ROB until Pikachu finally succumbed to ROB's B-air.

t0mmy had just eliminated all three of NOregon's best players by himself. XD

t0mmy vs Moochero
to
To finish up the story with Crews, Mooch came in and took out t0mmy's remaining stock without losing a single stock courtesy of Dedede's U-tilt.  He went on to take a stock from me leaving the final stock count at 8 for SOregon.

(Tuen gets a special shoutout for epic controller of epicness and gets full rights to his claim on Brick's premier stock)

tl;dr
t0mmy raped crews

NOregon: +4
SOregon: +12

So t@mmy plays in the brackets, and then switches to t0mmy for crews.

Come to think of it, I've never seen t@mmy show up to a crew battle.

We just need to lie and tell him that a match is for crews when it's actually bracket. XP

Why do you want t0mmy to do well in brackets?

So that people will stop insisting he's bad when they're actually judging t@mmy, not t0mmy.

because he's the only player that travels more oos, and every time he does he fails to go into Beast mode.

You understand? It's very difficult to insist you're a good player when you readily give people evidence to the contrary. Like, if t0mmy didn't care about whether people thought he was good or not, that's one thing. But he obviously does or else he wouldn't care about his placements on PR lists and stuff (or would argue that he should be lower than he is). But this isn't the case. So, don't give people a foothold when constructing an argument against you.

This will most likely be interpretted in a negative way and I apologize for that in advance. However, if you guys even knew how much I WANT t0mmy to succeed and be viewed by everyone else, then my statement would not be criticized. I suppose the only thing you can really truly criticize me for is not sharing your same perspective (whatever it may be). If that is the case, then let's just agree to disagree.

Although NOregon losing was definitely not my cup of tea.

Wouldn't have happened if you had a ninja in your crew roster ;P

ITB: t0mmy is best in OR and Viviff stays free and salty, like a minnow in the great open sea of scrubs. ;)

You both better be at Genesis 2. And money match me.

You want t0mmy to do well because people say he's bad and you know otherwise? First of all, anyone who seriously says another player is 'bad' is not someone I pay attention to. Secondly... actually, there is no second point now that I think about it.

It's cool that you want to see t0mmy play his best, I wouldn't say your words are negative. If anything, I sort of see them as meandering. By meandering, I mean you have a clear point but wander about it without progress. Saying there's a t0mmy and a t@mmy for instance just muddles the situation. Identify your goal, provide solutions, take action. That's pretty much the only way to get things done (I'm talking about everything in life, not just with t0mmy's sandbagging).

Here are some facts to ponder:
t0mmy does well on occasion, and he does mediocre on occasion, but there are times he also rapes everyone effortlessly.
t0mmy's performance is based on his demeanor.*
t0mmy says he's never owned a 'good' controller.
Whenever someone has lent him a good controller, he does well.

*De worse his controller, de meaner he gets.

Crews are played for pride and bragging rights. t0mmy won...pride and bragging rights. Crew battles used to matter back in the Melee days, especially regional crews. If you don't wanna try, don't play at all.

@Scout, look back on the posts I made before making such proclamations. I DO argue I should be lower on power rankings :^p

People need to quit making an issue of things. There's plenty of inconsistency on an individual basis for everyone, I shouldn't be any different.
I think it should be pointed out that I didn't set out to sandbag this tournament, I gave everyone a good game, and when I used Tuen's controller for crews it was apparent that didn't change.

There were pay outs for singles. Embarrassingly small payouts, but they existed and there wasn't anything else i could do to change it :-/
All-Time Oregon Best Viviff wrote at 3:37 PM on May 2, 2011 :
Crews are just crews. We happened to be together and wanted to kill some time. I know SOREgon gets super-hyped for it because they're awful in brackets, but whatever. This wasn't t0mmy deciding to go super-saiyan, this was us not caring because it doesn't matter. I rarely get hyped for matches that aren't bracket, or for at least $10. Crews is no exception. Hell, I sent Alex first because I had to go with Brick and not care about our Melee doubles match. I'm glad you guys think it's some glimmer hope to cling on to, but NOregon went top 3 and won doubles AKA the results that matter.

All of that and my controller was very dysfunctional for the last half of the event (confirmed by Tuen). It had been soldered together less than 24 hours prior to the event and it appears that stress on the cord that was switched in may have compromised functionality. But again, great job guys, you really showed us some championship mettle....
Phil Nye the SCIENCE Guy wrote at 3:37 PM on May 2, 2011 :
Yeah Brick surprisingly stepped it up, although I was sad at his performance in crews (as I'm sure he was too).

You know who I was really surprised by at the end of the day? Jonix and JediNoah, Jonix massively improved from when I last saw him (although he still has a bad aerial habit that I learned to abuse a bit in my mm, although I still lost so... yeah), and JediNoah's going to have some pretty good momentum down the road, and he's like what, 10? Someone just needs to teach this kid to wait for dodges and mixups, and he's going to be freaky.
t0mmy wrote at 3:50 PM on May 2, 2011 :
Wow, so many johnz. lol

I'm just going to say congrats to Granite/Brick. (and, yes, Jonix was yet another great player to be mentioned as well as Mooch and a host of other players).
I'm even going so far to say congrats to myself for crews, and thanks again to Tuen for keeping his controller in pristine condition and being so kind as to let me (and t1mmy) borrow it. Don't forget how awesome t1mmy did! He pulled out an epic 70% combo that was just as good as anything I did in crews.
Pwneroni wrote at 3:54 PM on May 2, 2011 :
Viviff you're totally falling into the trap. Johning so much about crews just proves how much you care about them. I care about crews, and I had a blast! Why don't you just get the stick out of your *** and loosen up? Wait a second.... flip that.
All-Time Oregon Best Viviff wrote at 4:03 PM on May 2, 2011 :
It's not that I care, it's that others get crowned as some sort of demigod for a performance in something that didn't matter
Pwneroni wrote at 4:06 PM on May 2, 2011 :
It was a demigod performance, just accept it.
t0mmy wrote at 4:07 PM on May 2, 2011 :
Good eye, Alex. Troll blog successful. :^\

But, yeah, I agree crews is just about bragging rights; it's not like we won money off it.
However, I gave Tuen the money I won from Viviff in our MM. I thought it was a nice way of letting him know I couldn't have done it without his support.
Inui wrote at 4:21 PM on May 2, 2011 :

Viviff can we MM at Genesis 2?
t0mmy wrote at 4:32 PM on May 2, 2011 :
As much as I <3 you, Inui, my support goes to Viviff 'cuz he's part of my region.
t0mmy wrote at 4:50 PM on May 2, 2011 :
I'd say, just greyhound it over to the east coast and meet the players there and do some MMs; though tiring, it's actually a lot of fun traveling.
I'll most likely be there, so I'm up for any and all MM's. I gotta defend my last win on Inui ([^^]
Scout wrote at 4:56 PM on May 2, 2011 :
On that note, t0mmy, I would love to attend Apex, but I would need to be a better player to justify it.
