What Are Common Venues?

I'm just throwing this question out there to see if any TO's can give some advice. I'm trying to start a tournament series, but the comic shop in downtown Davis closed and I don't even know where to begin for a venue. Our apartment is too small for a house tournament and reserving a room on campus requires starting a club and a whole lot of legal stuff I'd rather avoid if possible.

What are the best types of stores to begin looking at/asking if I can host there?

Besides Drom's the only one other comic shop in Davis was the on I linked you to above.

Game stores (video game, card/hobby games), churches, schools, and people's houses.

In my experience, churches and houses are the best for having the cheapest cost while Game stores are the best for increasing attendance/supplies.

Also, a tournament with cash prizes is considered gambling.

Drom's is the one I wanted to use but it is closing down and Bizarro World won't work because the store is extremely cramped. There are a few churches that could work, as for game stores we have one or two.

I used a Cafe local cafe that was non profit called Cafe Kashmier and well it got closed down but before I was into this community like I'd host little single elmination brackt tourneys that had like 90 + people

I just hosted on campus. I've used a dorm's lobby, a dorm's study room(lol), and a dorm's student center. Never asked for permission nor gotten in trouble.
