Smashcon: What is it?
posted to the public at 1:09 PM on Wednesday May 16, 2012
Smashcon
Smashcon is a new organization that is going to take the nation by storm. It's an organization that will unite smash players from all over the state in a chance to compete in the biggest tournament the state has to offer twice a year; once during winter and once during the summer, with many opportunities for cash prizes and swag.
When we aren't running Smashcon, what are we doing throughout the year?
-Smashcon has connected with TO's around Louisiana to create a statewide circuit. As such, Smashcon will sponsor every tournament these TO's host.
How does Smashcon sponsoring tournaments affect anything?
-In Smashcon sponosred tournaments, the top three entrants will receive points. The three people who have aquired the most points will acquire prizes: cash, swag, etc.
Currently we have four TO's who are sponsored by Smashcon:
Name Location
1) Adrian New Orleans (UNO)*
2) Bomber7 Hammond (SELU)*
3) Erick Slidell
4) Jnig New Orleans
*UNO: University of New Orleans Campus
*SELU: Southeastern Louisiana University Campus
Our goal for Smashcon is to create a successful statewide circuit bringing Louisiana's gaming community up to par with the rest of the country. We also have plans of taking the best players from each game we host tournaments for and bringing them to national tournaments to compete, test their skills, and grow stronger as players. We will have all the games that are played on the national level and we will put out players what can compete on the national level and represent our state well.
Getting down to more specifics, Smashcon is held bi-yearly at Ohana Pier in Slidel, Louisiana. As mentioned before, Smashcon has two sessions; once during the summer (July) and once during the winter(December).
The games we mainly host touraments for are:
Smash 64
Melee
Brawl
(Wouldn't be Smashcon without the Smash series now would it?)
We are expanding our horizons to other games as well like Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom, Project M and many more to come.

According to Erick, the guy who owns Smashcon, he got in touch with VGBootcamp and they sounded interested in coming down to stream this. I'm ecstatic because it's only been a couple of days since we made threads, facebook events, etc. for this and we are getting so many people's attention already. We might have M2K come, he's looking to see how big this will be, which it will.
