Metroid: Other M
is really not a bad game. I been seeing people talkin about how bad the game was, but its actually fun. I enjoy this more than I enjoyed Metroid Prime......im just not a first person shooter type person.

Is the worst Metroid game in the Metroid series.

I borrowed it from my library yesterday. I've played it for about half an hour and I'm not very impressed. Yeah, it might not be that bad of a game but it's not that good of a game either. That's half an hour into the game speaking.

I thought it was okay. people like to critize a game but you have no clue the work people put into to create that game, like for Kid IcarusL Uprising was rough of me as I was on the devloptment team (intern)

I haven't played it yet. I am a fan of the metroid serious however. Metroid 1 & 2 (Gamecube) was good.

I loved Other M because it wasn't like Prime but more like the original series. When people think Metroid they think of some guy in a robot suit blasting aliens, But really its a story of a girl who lost her parents and wants to save the galaxy and get revenge at the same time. Nintendo did a great job with other M cause they made it how metroid was supposed to be made. With a kick *** story line.

haven't really got into the storyline much. The only metroid I got far in was Super Metroid, but my SNES fell and the data was deleted....so I just gave up on it lol

Other M is kinda hard with using the wii remote, but its still a pretty fun game. It's like Ninja Gaiden with guns in space lol

Imo, the game was great except for one aspect: The brooding. I like the cutscenes, but all that brooding.
TheRealBobMan wrote at 7:14 PM on May 21, 2012 :
Gameplay wise, it's not bad. They did a good job with the controller they had to use, considering they wanted first person while having adventuring like Super Metroid, but in a 3D environment instead of 2D. I haven't finished it, but it seems really linear, which is a negative, and the controls really could have been better.

This is actually the absolute worst part about the game. Gameplay isn't up to "Metroid standard", but it's not bad. The biggest mistake Nintendo made for this franchise was trying to tell the story via cut scenes instead of having you see and find it through gameplay. You could even forgive that if the story was good, but it's ****ing garbage. Samus is afraid of Ridley after, at this point, having killed him like 4-5 times in her life. She's already a seasoned bounty hunter, and should be able to cope with her issues by now. I'm pissed about the way they developed Adam. In Metroid Fusion he was painted out as this awesome guy who was a Mentor to Samus, but they executed him as an abusive step-father, and make Samus look like a bratty teenager in the backstory part with her "thumbs down" thing. Also, she's constantly taking orders from him when she shouldn't, even when it puts her life at risk, only breaks orders when she knows he can't do anything about it because he's not watching, and even gets hurt by him for no ****ing reason.

Also, why the **** would a general go out into the field with only a handful of guys backing him? He should be a ****ing Major or Lieutenant Colonel or something at the absolute most.

thats the part that I didn't like that much either.....the characters seem boring in some ways. They just talk soo mellow if u know what I mean.

Samus acts like a little girl in this one. She isn't acting all tough like I thought she would be.
It's like "I decided not to use my stuff unless its authorized".....U ARE A BOUNTY HUNTER!!!! Who needs to tell u that something needs to be authorized?!!

Its a real shame. The running feels a little too fast and I get hit alot just from tryna move out the way...but I still like the game for some reason

Brawl costs more than that and is like 2 years older
Shado Chimera wrote at 7:45 PM on May 21, 2012 :
Okay. Here is what you need to know about ratings involved with Metroid Other M:

1. Its linear unlike most 2D Metroid games (Metroid Other M was made by that group of developers, and there were expectations for more old school Metroid).

2. This is the only game with a massive storyline, and is not like old school games..

3. The voice acting was terrible for Samus (truly awful).

4. The scene with Ridley made Samus look so weak (I honestly almost vomited, and doubt I'm the only one). Way over-exaggerated.. Other scenes were long.

^ These four things usually distract from the impressive gameplay (and I mean impressive).

Others may have other reasons, but this is pretty much mutual.
The Fallen Angel wrote at 7:50 PM on May 21, 2012 :
pretty much EXACTLY what realbobman said.

I hated, ABSOLUTLY HATED how they portrayed samus in other m.

I have no problem with nintendo attempting to give their characters emotions/feel more human, but there are FAR FAR FAR better ways to make a character have "emotions" then they did in other M, everything from sadness to anger could of been done 100x better then what they did in other m, and TBH IMO the game made samus feel LESS human, all because of how ridiculous the "emotions" and attitude they gave her were.

Several scenes could of been handled better as well, hell i can think of a couple different ways off the top of my head on how the ridley scene could been done waaaaaaaaaaaay better and actually be one scene that many fans would of praised and loved as opposed to despised like they currently do...
TheRealBobMan wrote at 7:59 PM on May 21, 2012 :
"3. The voice acting was terrible for Samus (truly awful)."

I agree 100%. A lot of her lines are an internal monologue of her thought process, but you get issues with:

A) She's repeating things to herself that are ****ing obvious or things that other people just said, which you generally don't do when you're thinking. This is more writing than acting, but it's important.
B) Her lines sound like the actress read every line individually and acted them on different days of the week at different times without knowing what the total script was. Everything sounds disconnected, which causes a feeling of dissonance that just doesn't fit with thinking to yourself.

Ugh, it's like every one of these problems adds up to make Samus look unstable.

Yea, all in all, it's not enough to have good controls if you really can't stand the story.
Carls493 wrote at 8:56 PM on May 21, 2012 :
There's some value conflict with this game.

This is a Japanese game. Samus seems more fragile. But in the American-made Prime games, she's badass, and doesn't need anyone to tell her what to do.

This makes a lot of sense. This reminds me how certain Nintendo characters have smiley faces in the Japanese box arts, but angry faces in the American ones. XD

Considering we can't judge how she is in the 2D games back then, we're already embedded with Samus as a virtual badass bounty hunter based off the Prime games. I think if Other M started first and then the Prime series, then Samus in general would have probably been more praised than how she is today, aside from being a generic woman.
Miles of SmashWiki wrote at 9:26 PM on May 21, 2012 :
Gosh it must be a bad game because it shows that a character who has had to do really difficult things including a lot of killing might have some level of emotional stress or trauma and might not be the most mentally collected individual ever.

I mean the game has it's flaws, but to get outraged over the characterization here is to miss the point of it entirely. Samus saw Ridley kill her parents, and she's starting to get worn down by the fact that every time she gets rid of him, he somehow isn't all the way dead. After a while, that's going to wear on even the most iron-hearted kind of person. And the implication is that the events of Super Metroid are a recent and highly traumatic influence on her mental state.
Carls493 wrote at 9:30 PM on May 21, 2012 :
After Gunpei Yokoi (may he R.I.P.), Yoshio Sakamoto is the co-creator of Metroid. He contributed a lot to every single one of the Metroid games unrelated to Prime. That includes this game.

He's the main director, so he contributed to a lot of how this game is. Even when Team Ninja helped, it was because he guided them on what to do.

The thing is this: Usually a game (co-)creator is praised for his own direction, but in the case of this game, people now think that America and Retro Studios should carry the series more than the company and country it came from.
