Our first IESMASH marketed as "i.e.smash: a regional tournament" took place on Saturday July 3rd 2009.The idea came up just by my talking with my friends BMM and Rai, but WA wasn't really having big events.GameClucks' moderately successful TourneyPlay series had yet to take off.
We gathered a large church room as a venue and planned out this tournament.
On AllisBrawl we had over 100 people signed up to attend, but low and behold 3 days before the event...
we had the worst snow storm in recent memory. About 3 ft of heavy snow blanketed the ENTIRE Inland Empire, the pass from Seattle was blocked, and our Oregon carpools canceled due to statewide flooding.
Long story short our attendance wasn't as large as expected, but with these unforseen challenges, we still kept hype up and managed to break 60 attendees with only 1 carpool from Western Washington and no carpools from Oregon.
DieSuperFly and ShadowRob came all the way from SoCal and won both events.DSF won an awesome Championship Belt made by our own talented BEACH.
Long story short, it was an awesome experience, and everyone had a blast.
Now
3.5 years later
Brawl's metagame has advanced further than anyone could have predicted.
Melee has made a more than amazing comeback in the Pacific Northwest.
It's time to try our hand at another IESmash, but this time our scope is LARGER.
- We have a HUGE FREE VENUE which means NO VENUE FEE / ALL MONEY DIRECTLY GOES TO PRIZES
- We are sponsored by NOS Energy Drinks! We'll have cases upon cases of free NOS for the taking!
- We will have a Live Stream with commentary by Praxis and Dr. Robotnik!
- I now own 8 Televisions for Smash including a 67" monster TV that can be used for our live stream setup!
- I'll be going to e4u: Champion in SoCal sporting my IESMash shirt to build hype for this event.
I'm a MUCH more experienced Tournament Organizer and event planner now.
I know this is going to be an AMAZING tournament not only for the Brawl and Melee players of Oregon / Washington, but for any out of region players that want to come test their might and probably win a bunch of money vs us scrubs.
Help me out! Let's see 60+!
Let's get the bandwagon rolling!
