Going Hard In Friendlies
Why is that so hard for most top players to do? lol.

You learn way more **** when you're trying in friendly matches

Me & ESAM friendlies this weekend and we played as if it was bracket in our hotel room, it was pretty hype.

And Vinnie & I always do srs MK vs IC matches so we can atleast attempt to get the MU down from both sides (Well I still suck vs ICs rofl but he rapes MK)

tl;dr : dont be a *** sandbagger in friendlies, you'll get exposed in bracket.

Kimidori wrote at 2:11 PM on Jul 17, 2012 :
Twas a joke ;P Because Keitaro was going on about how Gluto needs to stop sandbagging in friendlies so he can actually learn stuff.
Ushio wrote at 2:21 PM on Jul 17, 2012 :
Sandbagging in friendlies at a tournament is different from doing it during a practice session/smashfest.
People don't want to give their potential opponent information that can be used against them in bracket.

I have nobody to play with lmao. When I do, Tvs are all used. I'd totally sit down and play ESAM'S pikachu for days but chances are he won't do it. I was playing you seriously though until we got our *** kicked out. ;l

People act like they have secret tech the game has been out for 4 years you don't have anything we haven't seen. And if you do at this point its situational and a gimmick and it won't win you tourneys. Don't deprive yourself of improving and maintaining your skill with players because you feel like you have something to hide or your playstyle is special.

That's just it. People want to download their opponents without being downloaded hence the sandbagging. Everyone uses friendlies for different things. Fun, Knowledge, getting an edge, trying new things. Personally I try out things I thought up in my head and see if its viable. Usually gets me exposed though =P
AWoww wrote at 3:20 PM on Jul 17, 2012 :
It's not like you can't be "downloaded" from other people surrounding you and watching your playstyle during tourney matches. Like said in a previous post, whatever potential info you tryin to hide is most likely already known.

That's why I sandbag in tournament sets too, so no one can ever figure out my true playstyle

the only time i've ever ****ed around in a friendly was when me and my friend had been playing for a while and we wanted to play stupid characters and try to make stupid things happen

at that point im usually pretty done with brawl

but then again.. i can only play like 8 serious friendly matches before im burnt out
Tuen wrote at 3:52 PM on Jul 17, 2012 :
Tell that to t0mmy. Seriously.

I've only ever sandbagged vs some college friends that would literally throw a sh*t fit if they lost too many times in a row. Versus people that actually played the game regularly, I'd do what I could to win by the biggest margin (Got a JV 5 on someone in Melee once. It was epic). I just wish more people did that when I played. /shrugs.

I went hard against ally in friendlies, because I wanted to improve. But apparantly he was sandbagging and downloading me lmao. he admitted it himself afterwards. SO YEAH next im sandbagging vs everyone

Totally agree with what Rakan said

One time, Ran was talking about how Lee got so good. He said Lee made a point to destroy anyone he played, bracket or not. There's no reason we shouldn't do this. What have we got to lose? IMO if you don't try to improve in friendlies, when do you plan to improve?
GodMeowMix wrote at 9:17 PM on Jul 17, 2012 :
I believe in Mr-R, Anti just wants to adapt to everyone quicker.

The only reason I money match is to make sure people aren't sandbagging me. I try in every match so I can improve.

This game isn't fun enough to always go tryhard in friendlies.

But items aren't even fun in Brawl, whereas they're more fun in Melee cuz it's Melee.
