There is a bit of an argument as to what is the best Sonic game evar, and these three usually are brought up the most. I wanted to know what you guys thought.

I liked Sonic 2 much more than the others. Collecting Chaos emeralds were easier to obtain than the collecting the balls thing in S3+K. That really gave me a headache. But Sonic 2 was how I was introduced to the Sonic universe. Haven't played Sonic CD before, maybe it will come on VC one day.

Sonic 2 is the 1st sonic which you can play in coop thanks to the apparition of Miles Tails Prower (just Tails now) even if we couldn't fly by ourselves ^^. The race mode was pretty fun (better than S3K's one) 'cause you could play the entire levels (3 of them and a special stage) but I really don't think it's enough to say STH2 is the best. Now take a look to S3K we can play in coop with Tails either but this time we can fly (YEAH... sorry) and bring Sonic to higher places than usual (not the highest because of Knuckles' exclusive ones). This game allows you to get 14 emeralds and be turned in Hyper mode : Sonic can perform a double jump (a premice of the homing attack), Knuckles can kill ennemies by touching a wall while flying and Tails has 4 gold birds with him to erradicate robots. Moreover there are 14 levels and cutscenes. I think S3K is the best Sonic they ever done, even better than Sonic CD. Sonic CD is the best in graphics, there is Metal Sonic and if you add an extremely accurate animation of our favorite hedgehog plus the time travelling you could think it's better than S3K and Hyper modes. The problem is the soft is cruelly too short and the bosses are extremely simple to defeat (I'd rather not speak about the "battle" against Metal Sonic...). It's the only negative points I could report but what about all of you ?

I haven't played CD yet, so I'll decide between the other two.
I like Sonic 2 better. I don't know why, I just find it funner.

Same. No matter which one I like more, they are all great and a blast to play.

featured a save function,
had a whopping 4 stories to play,
an AWESOME soundtrack,
great graphics, (ahead of its time)
amazing sound quality, (ahead of its time)
2-Player co-op gameplay,
and lastly: NO EGGMAN!

Runner Ups:
2nd: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
(Very fun game,
but Sonic 3 takes it one step further,
and Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes it even higher.)

3rd: Sonic CD
(Lacked the Extreme Polish of Sonic 3 & Knux)

4th: Sonic RUSH (Nintendo DS)
(The first time Sonic's digression 3D was as fun as it was in 2D)

5th: Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
(The last known 3D Sonic game to actually be fun.
...And have Chao...)

In my opinion Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best of the 3 with Sonic 2 at 2nd and CD at 3rd.

No Sonic 1? ={

Sonic 1 has been my favorite for a long while for lots of reasons. Sonic 3K is a close second, but falls short for being way too easy. Sonic 2 was too hard and had some annoying gameplay, just some bad design overall. Besides Casino Night Zone, I didn't like many of the levels or their music.

I mean with all the extra huge maze-like levels, better graphics, the new controls and music and everything its easy to say Sonic3K is better, but Sonic1 has some of my favorite levels and overall its easier for me to get into Sonic 1 than it is any other Sonic game.

And I would say more but I have school. Obligatory Top 5 = Sonic 1, Sonic 3K, Sonic Adventure, Sonic CD, Sonic 2

I prefer sonic CD because it's different than sonic 3 and knuckles also i like the japanese version of Sonic CD

idunno which to choose but i guess sonic 2 because it was the first sonic game i played so yeah
(i guess me opinion is just based off wat happened to me as a little kid lol)

Sonic 2 (the greatest sequel ever)
Sonic and knuckles (some great levels and I love the lock on)
Sonic (this game was amazing)
Sonic adventure (dreamcast version is just sick it looks so much better then other next gen sonic game in level design)
Sonic 3 (good game, but it's to short and easy)

Sonic Unleashed disappointed me.
The Sonic half was AMAZING, but the Were-Sonic half was unbearable.
I want my money back. I want my Sonic back.

No offense, but this should've come as no surprise.

Sonic 3K is my favorite, hands-down.

I'd have to say Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Was rly my first Sonic game. I played Sonic 2 on one of the Sega Smash Packs, and it was pretty good and definitely a classic. Then I liked CD as well. Metal Sonic used to be my favorite character before Shadow came along. But now Sonic is my favorite again...
Sonic 2:
Pros: CLASSIC! Intro to Super Sonic and emeralds and Tails.
Cons: Graphics... good but sort of eh compared to S3&K. And the badniks were sorta lame...
Sonic CD:
Pros: DUUUUDE Animated intro and ending, Metal Sonic, intro to the annoying fangirl Amy, and time travel? Plus rad bosses? Pwnage.
Cons: Graphics still not as good as S3&K, Metal Sonic boss battle of just a race was a bit lame and not at all what I was hoping for.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles:
Pros: Can I list 'em all? Sonic, Tails, AND Knuckles playable, the original 3 heroes baby! Better bosses, better traps and stage features, sweet music (Angel Island!), sweet power ups,  debug mode was beast (Super Boxes and all that stuff to place around!), awesome sprites, and the final battles were beast. PLUS one of the most awesome bosses that lacked what I wanted in Sonic CD, a Metal Sonic battle? And he has super? One of the sweetest Sonic boss battles ever, for both Sonic and Knuckles.
Cons: Um, all I can think of is the near impossibility of getting all the orbs for Choas Emeralds. But I did it in less than 3 days.

Overall, I think Sonic Adventure 2: Battle had to be the best Sonic game of all time though. S3&K was beast, but SA2B takes the cake.

5. I'm not sure exactly. I liked Unleashed daytime play, but Werehog was annoying. Still, I think the majority of Unleashed was decent contrary to the beliefs of many. Although, I think the Werehog was a bunch of unnecessary bull. 5th is still yet to be decided. I'm getting Black Knight soon, so that may even bump up higher on the list. Or take this spot.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles gets my vote.
Sonic 2 was good and all, but S3&K had waaaay more love put into it.
14 stages, in depth story, Super Tails (who here ever hoped for that??), it was a direct sequel of Sonic 2, which was an epic build up.
I mean, think of the storyline between these 2 games.
Robotnik builds a DeathEgg, needs the emeralds, Sonic destroys it, it lands in AngelIsland, Robotnik tricks Knuckles while he fixes his DeathEgg, Sonic comes in busts it again, it falls into a live volcano, here Robotnik discovers the Master Emerald, Sonic chases him down, clashes with Knuckles, Robotnik shows his truer colors, steals the Master Emerald, powers his DeathEgg with it, Knuckles helps Sonic chase a ship into space, he hops in, destroys it from the inside out, and recovers the Master Emerald.

As simple and straight to the point as I made it sound, thats ****ing epic.
There was never a Sonic story that epic.
So epic it had to be packed into 2 games, technically 3.

Sonic CD is in a class of its own, it's a great game and all, but it can't compete with Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

well, thats a surprise to me.  i find the blue sphere collecting in Sonic 3 way easier than the ring collecting for Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2.  i guess in some cases it might depend on which game you played more.  the thing that bothered me sometimes, just sometimes, on the Sonic 2 special stages were when I didn't know what was ahead of me at the bottom or top of a slope and it ended up being bombs taking away my rings.  well, thats also cuz i havent memorized every special stage.

maybe im a little lucky too, since i never got a headache from the Sonic 3 special stages.  u can always pause the game while ur in the middle of it though to ease things out.  i never needed to do that though.

that would be really cool if they did release Sega CD games on Virtual Console.  I never had a Sega CD console.  that would also be awesome if there were Sega Saturn games on Virtual Console.  Dreamcast games, are even more unlikely to be on Virtual Console I think even though that would be nice too.
