I had this same problem at first and managed to get around it by applying the deinterlace filter in edit mode, after capturing the video.
To do this, load up VirtualDub, File -> Open video file, and then go to Video -> Filters -> Add deinterlace, and Video -> Compression -> Choose a codec (I didn't do this the first time and it defaulted to "Uncompressed" giving me a 4 GB file!). Finally, just File -> Save as AVI
