Match-ups - Diddy vs...
The only other match-up thread I could find here was bad, so I started my own. Hope no one minds.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been going to local tournaments, and am now playing in an open brawl league. I tied for 5th in the last 1v1 tournament, out of somewhere between 54 and 64 people. My main is Diddy. I can glide-toss, spot-dodge, etc.

Here's what I have a problem with:

Diddy vs Zelda

Diddy vs Falco

It seems that even if the other player is just average, and may not know how to utilize the spot dodge, they still eat me alive. Especially Zelda, and her side and up smash.

Bananas are tough to use against both characters because of the reflectors.

Any tips?

Don't be so predictable with bananas. Glide-tossing is great, and employing the so-called Diddy Advanced Techs helps a lot, but you have to learn when to use them and to have a nice banana control (never allow the opponent to control your naners.)

This happens a LOT with Diddy players. They become SO predictable, and once experienced players get the hang of your banana pattern (add that Falco has an advantage against Diddy.), they don't work that well. That's why you need to make a change with patterns, and practice against that specific match-ups. Recording your games helps a lot, playind and actually watching yourself play is SO different, and helps you detect patterns and errors.

If the match is important, don try to risk yourself doing combos and stuff, play safe. This is Brawl, the so-called gay strategies work wonders if you know when to use them.

Hope it helps icon_razz And don't feel bad against Falco, he's a bad matchup against Diddy (30:70 I think), if he's a GOOD Falco you should try changing character. Remember, matchups have a great influence in this game.

Against Zelda (or my friend's noobish zelda at least), I usually try to trick him into reacting preemptively.

Walk up to Zelda holding a banana, PSing din's fires. If she throws out the reflector, drop the banana and punish w/ dash attack or aerials. If she uses any of her super-laggy ground moves, or if she rolls, proceed to pummel her with bananas and follow up against her trip-up.

lol i 3 stocked a falco today.  I almost cried, but he was bad...so yeah.

I like to glide toss out of shield on Falco when the spacing's right and I'm being killed by teh lazers.  Dash attack combos are a breeze on Falco and don't forget how well utilts/uairs work on him.  Mixup when you dash against his shield (as you should on every character, jump, grab, usmash etc...) and work in reverse glide tosses to avoid his ridiculous shine range.  Falcos tend to be pretty campy so it can be hard to stay aggressive, but make adjustments depending on his style.  I actually find also that this is the only matchup where I don't cp final destination.  Falcos love that stage, and with good reason.  This is Diddy's worst matchup, you're probably still going to lose if the Falco is even with you in skill level but hopefully some of that makes sense and you'll find ways around some of his advantages through mindgames and mixups and smart play.

I've never really had problems with zelda though, someone else should help you there.

Zeldas are easy to play against. All of her attacks are pretty slow and the only things to worry about is staying out of sweet spot range of her fair/bairs (and of course the usmash and fsmash). Like another person said in an earlier post. Don't be so predictable and dependant on the nanners. I myself love to utilize the popgun and it definitely helps mess with a lot of characters banana pre-empting. Take for instance the zelda likes to reflect the nanners with neutral b. So instead of running in and glidetossing, shoot a peanut, wait a moment, and then run in and throw the banana aimed near her feet when the move has ALMOST finished. She will either reflect or destroy the peanut (but it takes up time necessary to be able to hit with your banana) and you can glide toss in and follow it up with a grab or smash or anything you like.

I use the popgun a LOT for purposes such as these. Against falcos I do the same stuff. the peanuts can be easily beaten but against characters that reflect a lot. the peanuts are pretty much harmless if reflected since they'll travel back in an arc not even near you and can possibly interrupt your opponent into getting a nice glidetoss fsmash/dsmash/grab approach.

Diddy is all about pressuring when the opportuninty arises. Never overly aggress into your opponent because if you fight mad you're going to get punished. Camping also is never exactly a good idea unless you have a decent balance of camping/aggro. Camping matches just get boring really fast and are very tedious if matched up against a comptetent counter-camper or someone who is better at camping.

Eh this is becoming a wall of text so i'm done. It's kinda fun to talk about the game though I guess... Since I can't play it.. my bro broke all the controllers including the wii remote) so I cant even turn on the wii to play >_<

Whatever I was doing wrong against Zelda seemed to work itself out, as I havn't had any trouble with her recently.

Falco is still an issue, but I'll try some of the advice given.

Does anyone else have any bad match-ups?

Should probably just pick one character and talk about the macth-up for some time. It should generate a lot of feedback and there would always be something to talk about ( keep thread from dying).

Bad.  Diddy's worst matchup other than falco, possibly tied with falco, in my opinion.

Diddy is one of the only possible counterpicks we've got on MK. Do better.

diddy v snake isnt so bad as long as u know ur diddy i would say try diddy bc i dont have too much trouble against snake but all charecters have trouble against snake soo

with that being said if u chose diddy i want 2 warn u that diddy cant realy just be picked up he takes pratice unless u already know how 2 use diddy and most of his AT's then ur covered but unless that is true diddy may seem like he was meant to loose for a while

Hey guys I am a DK main and even though I can't trust you monkeys to guard my banana hoard from crocodiles with brains the size of peanuts, I've been looking into Diddy as a secondary. You know, going full kong.

As DK my good matchups are vs most of the high tiers, except a few problems.

1. D3. I need someone who rapes D3.

2. Mario brothers.

3. ZSS

4. Wario

There are some others, but none too bad. I think DK and Diddy may go hand in hand. What a coincidence. Only problem is Diddy is hard to learn. Probably the hardest I've tried to learn.

I need to know if Diddy can do well against these chars.

I have a friend that I am a lot better at brawl than him and usually at least two stock regardless of who we are playing, but for some reason when I play diddy who is my main and he plays yoshi I do pretty terrible. Does anyone else have yoshi problems or should I just feel bad about myself?
