Brandeis University SSBB Singles Tourney
Waltham, Massachusetts, United States
May 1, 2008
The tournament will be from 8:00-11:00 at the Shapiro Campus Center (You can't miss it, it's a huge rusty-green colored monstrosity right off the left side of the Peripheral rode.) , In the Multipurpose Room on the 2nd floor.

Entry Fee : No Entry Fee
First Prize : $50 Best Buy gift Certificate
Second Place : $25 Best Buy gift Certificate

...this is a friendly college tournament guys, so keep in mind that the majority of people here aren't at all used to the tournament circuit. However, that being said, feel free to come here and play to win and destroy anyone in your path.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send me a message or call my cell.

Rules
WARNING! (The following rule set is TENTATIVE until approved by the club leadership, but here's what I submitted to them about what the rules should be based off of what I've seen in other tourneys and our time constraints. [3 hours] )

UPDATE : 04/25/08
************************************************
There is NO ADMISSION FEE for the tourney. Apparently, it's against Brandeis policies. However, under the table money matching is probably still allowed. (I mean, how would they stop you?)

...also, hopefully this WONT occur, but I mean if we have over 30 people, the setup is limited to Time...and we might have a problem making it a DOUBLE elimination, and might have to just make it Single Elimination.

...I'll keep you all updated on this progress.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl Singles Tournament Rules :

This is a Double Elimination tournament : Which means that after you
lose your first match, you enter into a losers bracket, and play
against other people who have lost. If you've lost in the losers
bracket, however, you're out of the tournament. The winner of the
losers bracket plays against the winner of the winners bracket in the
finals. The losers bracket finalist needs to win two sets, however, as
the winners bracket finalist has yet to lose a set.

All matches are best of 3 , except the winner/loser Finals and Finals which will be best 3 out of 5.

Matches are set to 3 stock, 7 minute time limit, no items, no smash balls

-------------

Stage and Character selection : Will us a Reverse Slobs Pick method :

The first game in a set is double-blind, and the stage is random (using the random stages listed in the stage selection section). The following applies to any game in a set played after the first:

The loser of the previous game declares the stage to be used, using any stage that isn't banned. The winner of the previous game then chooses his character. Lastly, the loser of the previous game chooses his character, and the game can start.

Stage Striking: At the beginning of the set, each player may strike one stage from the random list. (It is only banned from the random selection, and can still be counterpicked later in the set)

-> Stages

Neutral Stages: These will be on random.
Battlefield
Final Destination
Pokemon Stadium
Lylat Cruise
Smashville
Brawl Yoshi's Island

Counterpicks available:
Delphino Plaza
Frigate Orpheon
Luigi's Mansion
Norfair
Halberd
Pokemon Stadium 2
Distant Planet
Pictochat
Hanenbow
Rainbow Cruise
Brinstar
Corneria

(All other stages cannot be selected)

Dave's Modified Stupid Rule: No stage may be used twice in a single set if the player choosing already won on that stage.

Random Knock-Out: Each player may choose to eliminate 1 of the random stages to be chosen at the beginning of the set.

Stage Banning: Each player may choose to eliminate 2 of the stages available for counterpicking.

--------------------------------

Cobra's DQ Rule: (Based off an assumed average of about 4 minutes a match)

2 Minutes Late – Warning
6 Minutes Late – Loss of first match of set
10 Minutes Late – Loss of set

---------------------------------------
> Other Rules & Special Issues

Controller mods of ANY kind (short-hop mod, L-trigger mod, etc), except for cosmetic changes (paint job, different colored plastic), are banned. If you are caught using a banned controller you will be disqualified from the tournament.

Turbo or programmed buttons of any kind are banned. You may use third party controllers or pads that have these features, but if you are suspected of using the banned features you will not be allowed to use that control

Anyone on these boards, being that they are ON the boards, and know about Smash tournaments and look for them, already has a good chance of doing well at this tournament. The majority of people attending so far, aside from myself, have never actually been to a Melee/Brawl tournament, so those in the circuit should already have a leg up on the competition. I hope to see many from the MA area coming!

May 1st might be difficult, I have an exam Friday, and doing work throughout the week might prove to be difficult considering GTA 4 comes out Wednesday. Regardless, I'll do my best to attend, since it's not far from me. The important question is "WHAT TIME DOES THIS START." I have class until 6pm on Thursdays. Thanks.

hmm this sounds like it'll be fun. Though, May 1st may be a bit difficult for me as well. Finals and such... If it was a Friday I'd probably be able to make it. I live in Wakefield, MA, and just looked at google maps for the location of the tourney. It looks fairly simple to get to, I could take 95 south some ways and get off at an exit somewhere near the school... and from there it looks simple. Any idea how long a ride like that may be? BTW, I've never attended a tourney before, but I play competitively with my friends (sure I know, it's not the "same" but hey...) As it stands right now, I doubt I'll make it. hmm

Wow...I suck, good call guys. I updated the Details section, but it starts at 8:00 and goes to 11:00. I'll be giving you all a cell phone number here to call for the tournament in case you need to get in contact for various reasons (though I have to get the number from them later today.)

Oh also, could I ask for Cell phone numbers? ...it would be easier if I had a running lsit of them for people coming in. I lost my cell phone and it was REALLY bad timing, but I sjut want to make sure no one is left behind here.

Well blin, if by "what kind of compettition will show up? anyone amazing?" you mean... "has Korean DJ said he was coming?" , then the answer is: HOLY HELL KDJ is going to be there! There are also many others that will be coming who have signed up on Smashboards, so you'll DEFINITELY be able to get some good matches in.

Well, if you're going with Dan, he's already confirmed a parking pass, so you should be all set. If you end up driving Dan, rather then him driving himself, I can easily transfer what would be his pass into your pass, or whatever. ...however if you need your OWN pass, then that's a different matter.

To whoever reviews the results of this tourney : Sorry for any confusion, I uploaded the first file without checking the results, and the person who was running the program made a few errors in names and in one of the bracket results. So I have fixed it and have re-uploaded the results to the site. Sorry again!
