Kirby FC Teleport?
Alright, someone has a vid of them sort of teleporting and not doing the end of the FC animation...here's what I'm talking about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZO7Rur3AEg

This has probably happened to you guys before, once or twice. Other places this happens are on the right of the bridge on Brinstar and when trapped under that box-tower thing on pictochat. We (smashboards kirby boards) aren't exactly sure what causes this, but I've noticed 2 things:

1. The top of the hilt of the sword is level with the stage.

2. Kirby appears to go through the edge.

Do you guys have any guesses as to what happened?

Well, Battlefield has a "different edge" than say FD. You can't slide of the side in FD like you can in Battlefield. This might play a part in that glitch.

Seems like a cool little tech mindgame.

Well, I don't play kirby at all, but IMO, i think battlefields ledge canceled out the vertical distance except the last few frames where it changes and the player controller kirby DIed left and right really quickly to overpass the ledge. A person might be able to master this, but I doubt it's worth even trying due to the risk of SDing if you go too far in.

I don't think that's what happened.  If he zigzagged around the edge, the vertical momentum wouldn't have been canceled and he'd've done it normally.  Plus, the replay is slowed down, you'd be able to see even if he only went right and then left for 1 frame each.

I dunno, but it's an idea:
Because Kirby wasn't actually in the ledge, he could use the move, however when he got the final cutter out, it was in the ledge persay, and so the game mechanics forced it out of the ground and canceled most of the move/

The animation looks different than the Under-Ledge Cancel that you can do with Kirby's Final Cutter, plus you said you can do it on the right side of Brinstar, which doesn't have a ceiling effect (which means you cannot do the Under-Ledge Cancel).

It looks a lot like the ledge actually cancels out the Final Cutter and makes you land on top of the stage. This is similar to when I see other characters "cancel" their recoverys (and subsequently drop back off-stage and regain their jumps). You usually see this with Wolf's F-Special, but I've also done it with Marth's U-Special, and Meta Knight's Dimensional Cape and Drill Rush.

That's the only conjecture I can give.

You mean aside from it's priority, projectile, ledge cancel, meteor smash, and as a recovery?

I've started using FC more when my opponent is offstage and recovering. This may not be Melee, but it's still surprisingly useful if you're good at timing it.

Actually, I just played a "decent" Mario on wifi (by decent I mean he couldn't beat me even once, though he got me to last stock a few times)

and Final Cutter shockwaving him after his second jump when he's offstage->edgehog = win

You know what's funny... I just realized that the April Fool's joke thread that I posted last month was about 'canceling' the start-up of the Final Cutter. Maybe it wasn't a joke after all... XD

Alright, bump. Since it's possible to do this without a ceiling affect (on brinstar), I have two theories:

1. There are two separate glitches. (unlikely)

2. The ceiling is not necessary for the cancellation, which means this could hypothetically be done onto any ground or platform (I hope...).

Discuss.

It would be cool if we could get this to work consistently while on the stage; it would definitely make Kirby much better. I've been toying with it for a while now, but unfortunately I haven't gotten it to work once. :/

I've done this on halberd before, on the left edge when you are on the ship.

I did this yesterday, I was going to post something, but I see I'm not the only one. It happened to me in Halberd, fighting in the ship itself on the right ledge. Kirby just went through and landed on the platform cancelling the animation like in the first video.

Come, fight me!

Yeah, the only time I did this in an actual match was on Halberd also. There must be some funky Kirby energy on that stage.

Recently I realised that a similar thing to this can be done in the left ledge of Yoshi's Island. If aimed correctly kirby goes up, lands in the platform without the second part of the animation, and then shoots the air wall. Maybe this two things are somehow related, and it could help to understand what's behind this glitch.
