I'm pretty sure they were taken off because all of the active blogs were actually just giant trollfests, and what better way to represent AiB than to have that kind of garbage right there on the front page? We should put General Silliness up instead of news, too.

To anyone who still wishes to view blogs, just go here; it's underneath the "Fun" tab near the top of the site.

Though some of the active blogs were hardly appropriate for the front page, there were many that were perfectly acceptable.

If the issue is front-page visibility, why not simply recreate the active blogs section in some way on the blog list?

To everyone: a system that rewards people for starting unimportant discussions and spamming comments is clearly not one that lends itself to community growth. The staff will discuss ideas to highlight well-written blogs and other "important" topics, but the days of "lolz get this blog active!!111" are over. Current ideas are to add a "most active" sorting option to the All Blogs page; an alternate sorting option by most recent comment (like a default form view); and a feature for moderators to "thumbs up" a blog and therefore get it to show on the front page.

To everyone reading this: This is your own fault for making blogs about how the mods are bad (a good portion were about cheese), the mk ban or not, general flaming, beach ball contests, or anything else that is annoying. For most of these, there are places for them. The bad mods you could post in the issue resolution or PM an admin. The mk ban argument should be in brawl discussion. General flaming should not even be there. The beach ball contests you could do in the chat. The other things could go in general silliness or on your profile.

Some ppl compete and make stupid random blogs just so it could be seen on front page, sometimes in attempts to get all 3 former active slots, some even spam just for that reason to be on the front page, too, and it's lame. I'm glad this happened considering many dumb blogs that have been around lately. It's for the better, to me.

Actually I really approve of this. Good job, Neal. I was tired of the immature community getting the front page to smile down on them.

I, for one, don't see any reason to miss the active blogs. I completely agree with neal's reasoning.

I have an idea. We could give everyone the chance to thumbs up or down a blog. Instead of going on the front page, there can be an "active" page which will list the blogs with the most thumbs up on top. To keep the system from being abused, there can be a way where if a set number of mods "check" it as spam, it won't appear on the front page. The ones that can be on the front page could be non-spam blogs which have been thumbs upped by enough people, with a delay of a day or so. That will give mods the chance to remove spam blogs from the front.

That is more or less what we will be doing, Emmy.

That sounds like a good idea Emmy, and I hope the blogs have an expiration date to be featured with the thumbs up so they don't stay on the front absolutely forever.
