I troll the furry group on Facebook for just that reason, they think having an interest in an art, and wanting to roleplay in a manner that emulates that interest, makes them special.

A good thing to notice though, is that there are furries out there who aren't retarded. If you check the "How do I tell family" thread, you'll see my encounter with someone who stays inactive within the fandom for fear of over exposure to the retardation.

My sentiments are kind of similar to the person in the xkcd topic, because I like weird people, but you have to realize a lot of it (trolling, etc) the community brings upon itself, because of how many furries are extremely eager to tell you that they are furries and how much of their identity is contrived around it, and especially combined with how porn-centric the community is.
