Nintendo is Releasing a NEW Game of a New Character next year!?
http://www.destructoid.com/mario-creator-miyamoto-teases-a-new-game-character-177973.phtml

I
t seems that Nintendo has been making its profit from games like Mario, Link, Donkey kong, Pokemon, etc.
Thier latest creation of Nintendo was Pikmin, which was like 10 years ago.
Now miyamoto said that he plan on Releasing a Video game next Year, starring a completely NEW Character!
Some people may say, "this New character will be a FAIL and never compete with Mario, link, pokemon, etc.
You have to remember all those things i mentions are huge franchises and had had so much time to be the successful franchises they are today.
Im actually Excited to see this new character and thier new game! icon_biggrin
on another note, since Pikmin was created by Nintendo, they Instanly included him as a recent Rep in SSBB!
Do you think this NEW Character will get the Olimar treatment and instanly be in SSB4?? well wait and see icon_smile
Also They are Working on Pikmin 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Expect Pikmin 3 to come next yeAR or 2013 icon_biggrin

Miyamoto already said during this year's E3 that Pikmin 3 was pushed back to a Wii U release.

My guess is that it'll be a Wii U launch title. We'll see.

Of course the new character would be in the next smash unless the first game of this new franchise epically fails.

It would be great to see something new.

Nintendo has been in a creative coffin for the past 10 years, making only sequels and leaning on their dated franchises.

Cant wait for "The Legend Of Zelda: Link goes on yet another quest with some sort of gimmicky feature attached"

Yeah they made sequels, but there's no doubt that they always made every new entry feel unique and fresh compared to the rest. It's not as if Majora's Mask plays the exact same as Twilight Princess or Wind Waker playing the exact same as Ocarina of Time or Super Mario Galaxy playing the same as Super Mario 64, etc.
People seem...upset that Bayonetta 2 is coming to the Wii-U...

Thats where I disagree, Link played generally the same way in each game. Hack and slash with some targeting.

No they dont play the exact same way, but adding some gimmick like "You get a boat and you sail around" does not change the nature of what Link is actually doing.

-Same items (Hook shot, boomerang, and they all function THE EXACT SAME WAY IN EACH GAME)
-recycling villains and even story lines to a certain extent.
-Aside from Wind waker and SWS, art style has changed with rather minor updates.

The same goes for many of the other franchises. If your games have not changed much since the late 90's then there's a problem with your design team. But they sell well, so that's not going to change anytime soon...

Have you looked at Skyward Sword? It's changing up quite a bit.

Also that artstyle comment is complete bull. The artstyle is changing with every major Zelda game(Except for MM and OoT, obviously).

I'd also like to point out that the boomerang works pretty different from game to game. It went from only being able to have one target to being able to go multiple places and to have a wind effect. You can also draw its route in the DS games.

Whatever this new character may be, they may add him/her to the roster if:

A - The game of the character isn't a failed project
B - The game of said character is released before Smash 4

It's possible for Nintendo to disregard "B", but seeing as they left out Lucas in Melee, because Mother 3 was pushed back, I'd say it's a fairly safe bet to think that Nintendo wouldn't add a character to the roster if their game hasn't been released yet. A trophy, maybe, but not a playable character.

LMAO at the thought of every Zelda game having the same art style. Compared to all those bland sequels in the Gears of War/Call of Duty/Halo/pretty much every dang generic shooter these days they practically look like different series.

Nintendo often introduces new characters with major roles in new series. For example, Midna was the co-main character with Link in Twilight Princess. On top of that, franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid have changed throughout the ages and advanced. Whether different play styles (the stylus on the DS), revamped controls (motion controls on the Wii), or new battle mechanics, Zelda and Mario especially continue to advance, a lot further than other series.

Heck, look at Sonic. Sonic, until lately, had been dead in the water. They tried completely changing everything, and it failed. On the flip side, Nights tried to stay true to it's roots, and somewhat failed. So it's not necessarily that one or the other is right. It's a matter of what makes the better game. When you got a battle system as perfect as Ocarina of Time, not much needs to change.

However, new blood is always needed. All the recent newer series or series with new main characters except for The Legend of Starfy, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, and Fire Emblem are Japan only. That, or they don't sell much (which about half of the four franchises I mentioned suffer from that).

Hopefully if Nintendo makes a new franchise it goes in a different direction from other franchises. Pokémon is an RPG, Metroid is a FPS/side scroller shooter, Zelda is a platform action game, Mario the classic platform franchise, Wario Ware a mini-game franchise, Star Fox the rail shooter, Pikmin the RTS-like platform series.

Nintendo oughta try making some sort of more... free roaming RPG/action game/platformer or something. I think free roaming in a massive world is the only thing Nintendo hasn't done.

You don't really earn much for comparing Zelda franchise to games that are just about unchanged from sequel to sequel. My sh*tty game is great if you compare it to a far sh*ttier game!

"Nintendo often introduces new characters with major roles in new series."

GOOD LORD! THAT IS AMAZING! A new game with a new character, from a 220+ million dollar production? Nintendo is just spoiling us now. The fact that you even had to mention that already raises questions.

"Whether different play styles (the stylus on the DS), revamped controls (motion controls on the Wii), or new battle mechanics"

That's correct, I forget sometimes how influential and reliable the motion-control/touch pad actually was. So this is nice move, but it has been quite some time now since the wii/DS has been released, how many times have they re-released the DS?

Well, the Story line doesn't change, it's, you're Link.
The goal is to stop Ganon, and save Zelda from time to time.

Same as in the Mario games.
Stop Bowser, Save Peach.

And shouldn't new games have NEW Characters ? Not sure, I think playing the same game *Cough*360/ PS3 Shooters** Seems much more entertaining than repeating the same game 7 times with only adding the addition of a new.. New.. New Objective ?

It'd be Like if in a New Zelda, the Chickens suddenly realised they can Kill the Hero of Time and decided to take over Hyrule. And you get to play as Chickens.

As for the DS Part.
Same system, they just want to upgrade it, and have more money.
Watch - Read - Punish.
Is the key to victory.

Let's face it the mainstream games will always be the same just with a few new additions.

If you really want something out there well your just going to have to wait for some new game series to pop up or third party game cause ain't nothing going to change unless the main character dies which we all know isn't going to happen >.>.

But the thing is many franchises are unchanged from sequel to sequel. Besides, he's mentioning that there are new characters with major roles and changes in the gameplay, which are usually big changes, and that's what's important.

That's the objective of a Zelda game, the actual storyline is pretty complex and connected...but VERY difficult to piece together. Besides, they don't add a new objective, the have different ways of achieving that objective and improve on it. That's fine by me, as long as the game feels fresh and familiar and enjoyable. Not to mention, MANY companies make new versions of their systems or handhelds. Sony has done the same amount of upgrades to their PSP and how many different PS3's with different #'s of GB are there or with the 360?
