Alright guys so I finally finished uploading all my Halloween friendlies. Reason I call them that is because I specifically wanted a Halloween theme for the fun of it. I went through and got a couple of character/stage/music stuff (the lolzy music you'll see).

I had a few friendlies with DarkMusician and NinjaLink a couple of days ago. I was grateful for it too because we all hate wifi, yet they did this for me to critique and help me on the things I need to improve on. I also got DM's permission to put up our uploads. I'm sure you will all see some obvious wifi moments in these matches, however at the same time, the general idea of how we played is there.

I did not upload these matches to prove anything, or that I'm better than two of the most inspirational players to me. As I said, I put them up for critique and improvements I have made since I first started to play Brawl competitively. Even though I still have a lot to work on, I have come a long way, and I want to keep getting better. Seriously if anyone bothered to look back at my 09 Zelda and how she is now, it's shockingly different.

I don't feel confident giving Zelda critiques yet

Now I feel kind of bad asking for a critique without posting one. Oh well.
This was vs someone who doesn't use Link primarily so it's nothing great but I did use a lot of the tactics people have been telling me to do. If people will give me pointers to refine my style I'd appreciate it.

Probably not the greatest ZSS video in general since we both played on Pictochat pretty bad (not to mention it's banned offline now).

I'll go through the video and critique each critical point. This has been done to me in the past and it helped me out so it should help here.

0:51 - If a certain part of the stage is dangerous, stay away from it. If you can't stay away from it, it's often better to play safe until the situation passes. Playing safe would have given you the patience to anticipate my actions. You have 8 minutes to win so there's no need to get hasty.

0:58 - lol self-explanatory

1:14 - I should have died.

As with being against any character, you always want to consider the timing of your ledgesnap invincibility frames. Don't just grab the ledge randomly just because your opponent isn't there yet. This is especially true with ZSS because those invincibility frames are the best tool for beating most of her low-position recovery options. After a flipjump (her downB), ZSS can footstool or special footstool over your head if she is at least parallel to you in height. If your invincibility frames are in action once she tries this, she is forced to fall through you and she's dead. In other words, ZSS should have never recovered from that low position on first stock if you intended to ledgegrab.

1:11, 2:46, & 3:35 - In all of these, I punished your DI from a high-hitstun attack and you DI'd wrong.

ZSS has a bunch of stringing options to punish you in the air, and even more if you get knocked in the air by a move with high hitstun (dtilt, utilt, nair, first hit of fair). And zelda has far less options in this position. In 1:11 & 2:46, you were launched by dtilt and in 3:35 it was first hit of fair. As such, be extremely careful where you DI. If you DI toward ZSS...make sure she's close enough to get naired since it "should" be able to beat a dsmash attempt. If zss is far away before you get to DI, however, just stay away and reset. Being grounded vs ZSS is better than being above her.

3:00 - If you're that far away from ZSS when she misses a grab, she still can't attack you, so don't hesitate to immediately punish and don't waste time with a shield drop.

Overall, you played zss well. Better than I played you. I made some really dumb mistakes and got punished most of the time for them.

As for general tips:

-Zelda beats ZSS in close range (but who doesn't?). Zelda's OoS dsmash shuts down most of ZSS' options in this area.
-ZSS wins in mid-range and, it's about even in long range. Camping with Din's Fire is excellent until the element of surprise is over, so minimize this to mix-up only. If zss gets through a DF attempt, ZSS' ranged attacks and speed allow ZSS to close into mid-range (ZSS' best ground position) quickly.
-Both characters want to stay grounded since both are somewhat helpless when sent in the air. Because of this, if ZSS is over Zelda, Zelda should mostly try to shut down her landing attempts. If Zelda is the one airborne, though, first priority is getting back to the ground to reset if there are no good aerial attack options.
-ZSS doesn't have very good ground options, so if you need to get closer, powershield through her moves and react.

omg rizen dont roll into oli's its like the worst mistake you can make o.o i learned from experience from rich brown xD its better to just grab then roll since they suspect you're going to roll anyway. Powershielding is also helpful :3 with ike just air a lot since they have to jump to use their sword and what not be careful though some are tricky. oh and consider using downtilt into grab or downtilt into anything really itll help you on ike and olimar alot :O as for zss i dont really know that mu really well X_X sorry
