Rev said bias can ONLY occur towards the people who made the signatures. I sometimes see people saying "I voted for B because it had (insert character or color or shape, etc.)"

Like, what if someone REALLY likes megaman for example, and one of the sigs has megaman in it. That person would vote for that sig regardless of artistic merit simply because he was bias toward that character.

All I'm trying to say is that bias can also occur towards specific characters or imagery, not just the creator of the sig like rev said.

Being completely unbiased is almost impossible. Everybody will have their tastes and stuff being part of the decition. I.e Dizzy voting for the Black and White sig from #82 (or 81 don;t remember) because that styled appealed to him most.
That's pretty much bias by definition, but it's not really a bad thing for this type of stuff.

The problem with your scenario, or rather, the lack off. Is that if someone votes because Sig A had Megaman. They are still voting because of the sig's contents, not because they know who made it.
Like there could be this Ralf Jones sig with him being completely badass and getting all the girls (all of them). But if the sig was actually so BAD, I wouldn't vote for it.

What's happening is kind of like this.

Sig A and B are cool.

You cannot really decide which one is better.
But Sig A has your favorite band in it. You decide that one then. In this case your "bias" helped you out to make the decision without really really being the whole and only reason.  

I mean a get the point where you are coming from, but to use the same argument you are making, bias doesn't stop in characters or sig makers. It includes style chosen, flow, effects, even color. Which all viable parts of the sig, which ultimately doesn't make this "bias" a bad thing.

You're arguing semantics. I know what bias means. My rule against bias only applies to the first example of bias you provided.

I always had that problem where I over explain things that I could had easily said in one sentence or two.

- I liked it the best
- the artist made it look awesome
- the simplicity of it was nice
- he content of the sig is great, I like Studio Ghibli more than Inception lol
- the pastel look of it was more appealing than every other sig we could vote on
- IMO A is clearly the best, thats why I voted.

Obviously a person's taste in characters/colors/style is going to influence what they think is best, whether or not that particular signature really is 'better' than the other entries. Some of us share similar views on what we think is or isn't a good piece of art, and some people's opinion will be completely different.
LuckyLime, bias is more or less an inclination towards something that's usually tainted with some sort of prejudice, as you probably know.

All that being said, my understanding of 'no biased voting' is basically this:
There are two signatures, signature #1 and #2. Signature #1 is well made, obviously took at least some degree of effort, and probably deserves your vote. Signature #2 is slightly crappier, still okay, but definitely not as good as the first one. EXCEPT, you know the person that made signature #2, and since you like that person better than whoever else entered, you're going to vote for that signature, regardless of what you really think of the person's work.

Since we can't control people's interpretations of what 'good' art is, I think we should just stick with the example I just previously gave. "No biased voting" = "don't vote for x over y simply because you favor the creator of x more."

Yes I was wrong, I was only joking. There is no bias voting involved, at least to revenant's definition of bias, which is wrong in this manner anyways. Azusa has no clue(hopefully) who made A. It could be deemed somewhat bias because Miyazaki is involved in some sort of manner. Miyazaki is the key factor. Not the creator if signature A, he/she has nothing to do with the vote. So to define bias voting, take the definition of bias and put the verb "voting" in front of it, then read it to yourself, that simple. Bias voting is voting in a particular tendency or inclination, especially one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question(or object); voting in a prejudice manner. Now if Azusa knew the creator of signature A, then his definition of bias voting would presumably be valid (only presumably due to the various other factors that can sway a vote)

K guys. Revenant seemed to jump on my statement a little too quickly. I'm sure we're all capable of finding out what bias means.(Just posted it in the verb tense relating to objects) So stop scolding luckylime and get over it, kthx. I think the art district lacks this level of debate, these are the longest posts I think I've ever seen around here. Lawliel, don't be sorry, your response was a heck of a lot better than rev's latest post and taught me something even after I thought I understood what he was saying. Other mods like eklipse aren't even putting forth any effort. "If you like a sig, then vote for it!" Think of it this way, without this discussion this thread would still be on page 1 and people would only come back here to check if maybe someone else voted.

you guys both make a point, and we've all learned something! though we could deal with a little less put downs, i do agree that these sorts of discussions are probably a good thing for our little artistic community
though lucky, while eklipse might not do as much as some of the others, he does take care of the laotm contests and participates in sotw contests from time to time. lately he is just a busy desu guy = u=b
