How does hosting a tournament at a church work?
So I've been planning on hosting a Melee tourney at my church, but the thing is, I have no clue what's the right way to talk to my Pastor about it.

I'm worried about him saying "what does this have to do with worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ?" or saying that it's gambling and whatnot.

It depends on the church itself, really (and obviously you need permission). I'm sure my pastor would allow it, considering there are like 3 Wiis in the Youth hall.

Just ask him, the worst he can do is say no.

Worst case scenario, you can just host the tourney at your house, or a friend's house.

I've actually tried this before.

Unfortunately, people wanted to play Brawl, not SSBM.

Bump. I have tried this before. They won't mind because it's a children's game. It would help occupy a kid's time instead of being in the streets with drunks on the loose.

Although, the families that pray at that church will most likely want their kids to go. >_>

Plus there is the problem of violence and stuff. Although LUCKILY smash is kiddy visibly, so we can get through that. Yet you'll still get the talk down.

I didn't get to host a the church though. They canceled on me 2 weeks prior to a planned event, because they forgot they already had booked that date.... I moved on.

If they see fox and Falco lasers and Samus missiles, it's only comic cartoon violence. Fantasy really.

I was trying to host a melee tournament.

Although can you breeze by with Solid Snake around? D:

I know a great solution to this. I also had this problem and I had no idea what to say....but I knew what to do! What you need to do is to let everyone know who is attending the brawl tournament at the church, that there is going to be a youth group discussion, introduction of one another and some related church question...maybe from the bible, and then finally....a little player with everyone. Everyone should easily agree to this pre-game and if not, then tell him WTF did you think there was going to be at a church brawl tournament!?!?!??! With this in mind, you let your pastor know the plan and he should also easily agree. He would probably join the meeting and let him know that he should, so he may experience this and if everything goes well....you just got a huge boost in getting another brawl tournament easily. GOOD LUCK

Why would you want to host a tournament at a church?

churches make amazing venues. not the main prayer room itself, but the many side rooms/gyms/meeting/group rooms that you could host it in. they are usually very large, and cheaper than renting an actual venue at a community centre or something
