Why not just play melee if you want to play like melee. Let brawl be brawl. That it for tourneys.

no, this is stupid.
Not only would there need to be serious patches but people will constantly complain thinking that the patches that people made are wrong and need to be changed. With that people will constantly have to learn new characters because everytime you nerf or boost a character they will have different combos and uses. Leave brawl for the little competitiveness it has and stop with your stupid hacks. Seriously this would ruin competitive play for the people who like competitive brawl. stop trying to impliment this in tournies

woa 5ive is that you? the same 5ive that goes to the pika boards alot?

Nessy hit the bulls eye.

Brawl is Brawl/Melee is Melee. Even though I am curious, this is only an unlikely event that will not take place. This info wasn't even supposed to be released apparently(or am I reading Panda's thread wrong?) If someone can tell me that they have successfully tested it in a tournament environment and SBR has made an effective way to distribute the codes then maybe this would have a chance.

Screw it, keep this open for now.

Smashboards has Officially coined the name as, Brawl Plus now.

This distinguishes it from melee. Right now, it is nothing like melee: Brawl physics are kept, meaning the slower pace and lack of combos. Only Wavedash and L cancel will be added to add depth, and make character matchups more fair.

Brawl Plus is NOTHING like melee.

To add: If we wanted to make Melee 2.0, we would hack Melee. If ANYTHING this could possibly (but by a stretch) be considered Brawl 2.0. But Brawl Plus (Brawl+) is a much more appropriate title.

"Currently, the wavedash removes all of the lag from aerials."
What the hell. When did Wavedash ever remove aerials?

Isn't it obvious that I made a mistake in my post? I meant "l-cancel" when saying "wavedash." It was late last night when I posted that, so please cut me some slack. And yes, the current l-cancel (look toward the one shown in the subtype video), or "shield cancel," does apply to what I said below.

Quote:
"What I hate about this is how there's a shield for protection after the aerial. No after-lag, instant shield... so aerials are now nonpunishable besides the start-up lag (if any)?"
Your talking about s cancelling (shield cancelling) which I adressed before. All you have to do is put up yourshield anytime during lag. This is the easier more basic way of L cancelling. This won't be used anytime soon as an official form of L cancelling.
The form we are using is more akin to melee l cancelling, which requires timing, and removes only half the lag time. This will make things much less broken.

You are just trying to run away from your mistakes. It was obvious you were talking about Shield Cancel, as you corrected me when I tried explaining L cancel.

Really, do you need to go too far with this? Saying "wavedash" instead of "l-cancel" was the only mistake I made, so why did you sign up a new account just to run that much in my face? My entire post was in respond to the person that I quoted, so I have no idea why you keep insisting that I was talking about wavedashing. And, seriously, does it really make a difference? Who cares, honestly, that I made a mistake?

What the hell are you talking about? I'm talking about you replying to me saying things about L cancelling, saying I dont know anything.

I was jsut explaining that what you were talking about was s cancelling, and is different from l cancelling.

Brawl Plus eh? I used to have something called iTunes Plus...it sucked...no seriously it was the worst software I ever had <_< [/irrelevant]

They should have changed the name sooner, people are going to recognize it as Melee 2.0 from now on. lol

Brawl+ is a much better name than Melee2.0 since they are choosing to keep the game floaty etc. If anyone wants Melee 2.0, try Brawl+ with Heavy Brawl and Damage Ratio 1.1. If I had good recording equipment, I'd show you what it looks like.

Tested out all of those codes for wavedashing and shield canceling!

Wavedashing is... very ugly. It works but its very ugly. The brawl physics with the ability to use Melee dodges just wasn't meant to be. In the air the characters just look broken. I guess like Melee every character benefited from it, but wavedashing still doesn't feel right to me. Its just something that doesn't belong in Brawl. And also its so horribly broken that any character can infinite. "Melee speed + Brawl floatyness = Infinite until the end of time"

I still prefer being able to use my Up B after an air dodge.

Shield canceling (without wavedashing) was very interesting. Just like the old days you removed the lag when performing an air attack upon landing. Every character greatly benefited from it. Characters like Snake, Ike, and Ganondorf strangely felt more fun to use with this code because you would want to jump with them. But that isn't to say speedy characters like Fox, Sonic, and Game&Watch were any worse, they definitely improved as well. Overall every character felt like they were all evenly matched. It felt like Smash Bros 64... odd... isn't it?

The only real downfall is that you can't record matches with these codes, the replays get all funky.

Anywho I am not saying that these codes should be tourney mandatory. But definitely give Shield Canceling a try. Its fun!

Brawl Plus? That's a terrible name for this... you know why??

It implies it's better than Brawl, like it's some kind of fix patch.
No, Melee 2.0 was much more appropriate. Because this is going backwards, not forwards. This is trying to return to Melee, not make Brawl better.

And Five, he was obviously talking about L-cancel, let it rest.

Brawl Plus is NOTHING like melee.

What about the fact that both games have wavedashing and L-cancelling in them?

...no I don't mean to be a jerk. But here's the thing, if Melee weren't here first, we wouldn't be looking for ways to put wavedashing and L-cancelling in the game. It's not a far stretch to call it Melee 2.0 because it's like Melee with Brawl's differences. I'm with iSpin, Nessy and co. on playing Brawl to play Brawl and Melee to play Melee. I highly doubt this is going to catch on because of the complexities with the codes and the fact that every Brawl owner who wants to play in Melee plus tournaments (or whatever the hell you want to call them) has to have the codes and hacks on their Wii's... it's just not going to happen. Not a whole lot of people are into hacking in the first place and people won't want to play at tournaments that are under these settings if they can't play on them at home by legitimate means.

I don't think this discussion should be closed though, it's worth talking about.
Bomp.

It's still not decided if the wave dashing/directional air dodge is going to stay. It's also not decided if l-canceling is going to stay.

Right now it's in more of a "fiddle with stuff to see where we should go with this" stage.
