i pick them up cause it's just a habit. in the first zelda, you need them for the bow, and i play that a lot. i play the others as well, but that's where i get it from...:-D

I honestly end the game with a full wallet anyway. I think it's my OCD to not leave rupees left behind.

Me, I would buy all items possible from item shops for Link (i.e. Piece of Heart, Bigger Quiver, etc.). After that, I just save them in my wallet.
It's nice to know the fact that you're rich with all those rupees. 'v'

in tp i used to get my love fortune told all the time to find the pieces of heart, but now i have all 20 hearts so i blazed through hyrule castle without opening a chest. :-(
in oot i would actually back-track from the boss door in order to get a chest with 5 rupees in it (true story!)
in mm my bank account had 5000 rupees and my wallet was full, who didn't like to shoot down that rupee stealing bird for the 200+ rupees?
in ph i cleared the temple of the ocean king 3 times for ship parts to sell,
in ww i usually bet every rupee in my wallet right off the bat to totally mess everyone up until somebody was crazy enough to over-bid me.
