Power of "garbage" characters.
Yep,
I don't think some people give Low tiers enough credit.
but if you see, say...A Mewtwo 3 stock a Fox That'd be great wouldn't it?

You would probably get ALOT more respect (not saying that anyone else doesn't) from people who main tiers far above the rank of the character you were using. icon_razz

I main Yoshi and Kirby in Melee
All you really need to know is:
Knowing when(and how, I guess...) to dodge
And L-canceling which will make your Character must faster

Beware that Kirby hates short hopping -___-.....It's about as hard as trying to make Ramen Noodles in the freezer. And THAT is saying something. XD

You don't get more respect for maining low tiers. Just a bunch more scrubs on your nuts over how great you are with "x" low tier character and how you'd rape everyone if you switched to top tier, which is not true at all.

Basically, people who space the best and can predict their opponents will win. Character limitations are very real though, and no matter how good the person is, you can't forget that low tiers are there on the tier list for a reason. The only real advantage of using a low tier is that many people don't know how to fight them.

not true at all kirby, people who main low tiers and main them well do in fact get respect.  If you were to go in a results thread for a tourney chad or some other great low tier main just went to and if they happened to place well even if they didn't get top 3, you would still see a handfull of people going like great job on placing so well with a low tier char and stuff.

But your right about if they switched to a top tier char they wouldn't nescesarely be so great with that.  Alot of low tier chars play so much different from the top and high tiers.

This.

Against an experienced player or someone that knows the matchup, you lose the element of surprise and it becomes much more difficult.
I agree one shouldn't get respect for maining a low tier and doing well. Now if you actually ARE quite skilled that's a different story. I've heard from many a [insert low tier character] main that if [insert player considered "pro" with said character] would switch to high tier they would be beasting the best players. Not true. Personal comfort to a certain characters playstyle make a big difference. Believe me, I'm a much better with my Bowser than my Falco. I tried picking him up, didn't go well at all.lol
I'd get face raped if I tried pulling those shenanigans in tourney.

Low tier users are respected because they developed spacing and mindgames to make up for their lack of options. People who started playing using a bad character have a deeper sense of what their opponents will do and what they can do in response (if anything) as opposed to a standard technical space animal, who only learned that the more tech skill you have, the more pressure you can put on someone.

Many of these players often have decent high teirs because their knowledge of prediction and character weaknesses carries over to any character.

Sliq's link almost beat Kels's Fox.

Taj's Mewtwo has pummeled on all kinds of high tiers.

This was a bad thread, haha.

If brawl was easy, it'd be your mom.

Fumi + Yoshi. I don't think nothing more than that needs to be said.

I never said they don't get respect, just not more respect. If you look carefully, they get about the same amount of respect more or less as those who main the top/higher tiers, then you also get the addition in a bunch of fanboys who dickride the player just cause they main low tiers.

If you want a good example of someone who is known for a low tier, look at Taj. Probably the best Mewtwo player there is, but in tourneys matches that matter, he still goes Marth. The reason? He knows that he can't rely on Mewtwo the whole tourney, that character is just too limiting and gets raped in some of the higher tier matchups.

So my main point is that people who place well in tourneys get respect regardless of the character they use, and if they use low-tiers, they also get a bandwagon full of dickriders icon_wink
