Before I get started, I'd like to say I've been a fan of this band for a while. I've listened to their distinctive sound in all their albums up to now.
Anyways, my decision is still, *ahem* up in the air.
By listening to it, the same vocals exist in the music, however, something seems much different. It sounds as if the guitars have been traded completely for synths. Furthermore, a different sound exists in most of their songs. Covergence sounds similar to "A Beautiful Lie," however even then it is unique in itself. Still, this transformation is not bad within itself.
Sadly, I cannot bring myself to love it in the same way as "A beautiful Lie." The album in itself isn't bad. "City of Angels," Conquistador," "Up In the Air," and several others all sound great, along with "Do or Die" and "Convergence" introducing an experimental sound.
Over time, the music has grown on me. For the last day or so, I've put it on in small doses, and it is really growing on me.
In Short:
The album is alright. Nothing like a masterpiece, however not nearly as bad as some critics portray it. The band is growing, however it seems the album is lacking in one area, maybe the lyrics, maybe the sound, only time will tell.
Score: 7/10. Not great, but alright in itself.
