Readdyyyyyyy, set...hut hut...HIKE! That's right people, we got the Seattle Seahawks vs. the Denver Broncos, one will stand victorious...one will fall...who will it be....? Hope to see you all there!

AIB Super Bowl Party Information:

To get this party started we will have Smash Trivia hosted by none other than Toomai, along with non smash trivia hosted by me!  There will be card rewards and a badge reward, so be prepared!
Like last year, you can bet cards with other people on who YOU think will win this Super Bowl! To minimize people flaking on their bets, I (NiteNinja) will collect them and distribute everything according to the results. See the end of the article for more details. The TCG staff will not be responsible for bets not made through this system, but still feel free to make them if you trust who you are betting against.

As with any other social gathering, feel free to brawl for a bit. Don’t forget to get your Snackage ready, as the Super Bowl itself will start at 6:30 EST. GET YOUR GAME FACE ON!

Schedule:
Date: February 2nd, 2014
Where: Social Chat

Times:
EST: 5:30 PM
CST: 4:30 PM
MST: 3:30 PM
PST: 2:30 PM

Betting details:
1. Have both users leave me a shoutout confirming what they are betting. For example: “I am betting a Smashball against User X’s 1000 coins and Masterpieces Mode that Team A will win.”
2. Have both users send their side of the bet to me. There will be a blog of the current bets up for verification.
3. After the Super Bowl is over, I will send the appropriate cards to the person who won the bet.
Note: Please make all bets through me at least 1 day in advance of the event (Feb 1 deadline).
It's time for the very first ladder update of the year allisbrawlers, it's very exciting I know.  We decided to wait until after apex before doing the first one, but rest assured it will return to bi-weekly right after this.  Activity in the singles ladder has been pretty normal so far, but unfortunately it seems the other ladders aren't going as active.  You should also know that ladder decay is back in effect, meaning you can't slack off if you want to keep your current ranks.  It's also important to keep decay in mind if you have your eyes set on winning the new ladder prizes (just remember they aren't ACTUAL trophies).  With that out of the way, lets get to our current standings

Notes

Singles:
- Multiple players in top 32 have yet to drop a game, let's see if they can keep it up!
- Mid tiers make up quite a bit of the characters used
- Rooster is the only one in top 32 with a negative win/loss ratio, let's see if he can hold his position
- Penta is bad at this game, stop losing to him

Doubles:
- Only one team is undefeated and it's the team in first place, keep it up guys!
- Lack of activity has allowed players to reach top 8 with only 2 games played, take this chance to advance while you can everyone.

Project M
- Meek remains undefeated after 10 games and holds a spot in the top 3, how long can he keep it up for?
- Activity on this ladder is fairly decent, but nowhere near singles.  Perhaps that will change after all the hype from apex?

Low Tier
- Tairbear remains dominant in low tiers as usual
- Samus is a popular low tier for this ladder so far
- All 3 of the top ranked players are undefeated, whoa

==

The season still has a long way to go, meaning you have plenty of time to catch up if you want to make playoffs this season, but if you haven't started at all, you're going to have a tough time going for first place if you want those trophy prizes (again, not actual trophies).  Make sure to play as much as you can, and hopefully we can find a way to promote activity in ladders besides singles, especially doubles.

You know what time it is? Well, it is 11:26 as of right now of when this article was posted, but it is actually time for another “Who’s that User?”

Last edition’s results: Senobekim was the mystery user of WTU #13.He has the party badge (Pages 30-51), has the letter “n” in his username, Has a Pokémon module installed, Was born in the Winter of 1995, and located in the northernmost part of North America. Foodies, GardevoirsGotAGun, Italian Falcon, and Radiant Angel Admiral Pit were the first five to guess correctly, congratulations! There will be many opportunities to get it right another time (maybe even this contest!).

Honorable Mentions:
Horsy, Toxic Spectrum, TheNetherSpecter, -Ness-, SGOlympian, Galaxia Meta Knight, Kampfer, and BORBIEX were able to find the user and get the answers correct.

Rules (taken from past contests):

  1. I will show you the message the featured user sent me. If you are the user I am describing, please keep quiet about it and do not reveal yourself. Failure to comply will result in the loss of your WTU Featured User badge.
  2. In addition to a fact, clues will be given to help you search the myriad users of AiB for the right one. Don’t stop until you are absolutely sure you have the right user and he or she matches the clues given, because you only get one shot at this.
  3. To make sure you are taking the time to check your guess, I will give you a few questions to answer about this user. Every answer will be found somewhere on his or her profile (About Me, blogs, videos, etc.) If one answer is incorrect, then your whole guess will be counted wrong, so make sure you are absolutely certain of what you typed. (P.S. If you can't find the answers or have to PM the person you're looking at for an answer, you're doing it wrong.)
  4. When you are ready to give the name and answers, do not post as a comment. You must send a private message, or your submission will be void. Also, don’t give me a link to his or her profile unless you have the name and the answers to the questions to go with it. Putting just a link in your message will count as an incomplete (and therefore wrong) answer.
  5. Everyone has until midnight tonight (EST) to message me. Any answer sent in after that will not be counted.
  6. The first five that send the correct username get the WTU Winner badge!

Let’s begin!

“I wish to become a marine biologist in life, so this year and next year in high school I am taking many classes to get into the college that I want. I came to AIB in 8th grade thanks to my friend, and have been hooked on it ever since. Every day I come here, I get a big smile and many laughs when I read all of my shoutouts and messages. This site makes my day. My life was changed when I got my dog Milo. My first dog named Duke died when I was young, and I always had an empty spot in my heart, that Milo has filled.”

In addition to the message above, this user...
- In the group The Chillout Spot
- Has an “o” somewhere in their username or location.
-  This user is a LifeGuard

And the questions you need to answer are as follows
  1. What is the name of the user?
  2. How many beach ball badges does the user have?
  3. Who does the user main in GUILTY GEAR XX ACP?
  4. How many miscellaneous badges does the user have?

(Just a heads up for the questions, the answers are on the user’s profile! These are not trick questions)

Well, go find that user! And good luck! The answer to this week’s contest and next WTU will be posted in two weeks.

P.S. If you want to be featured in an article of “Who’s That User?”, just send me a PM with a short paragraph about yourself, your hobbies, something interesting that has happened to you, etc. Just make sure it can’t be found anywhere on your profile (About Me, videos, blogs, tournaments, etc.) If you are chosen, your message will be featured and you shall receive the WTU Featured User badge at the conclusion of the contest. So what are you waiting for? Send in your entries! ^^ Note: Once you send me in your entry to be featured, please do not spam me with more, as I may use it on a different occasion.

I also want to thank Foodies for helping me edit the WTU articles.

Apex starts tomorrow! That is not related to Question of the Week at all, but everyone should still go watch. Related to question of the week: we can use more question suggestions. Just send me a PM and follow the guidelines for question suggesting below.

Information:
Each time an article is posted, it will contain a question to be answered. Just post your answer in the comments section of the article to participate. Easy right? The best answer and runner ups will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes: Foodies, Toxic Spectrum, Yoshinendo, Zano, OrangeFox, and TheNetherSpecter.

Despite the name, I will be hosting this biweekly (every other week) on either Thursday or Friday. The specific day depends on the number of other articles that need to be posted for the week.

The articles will contain the response of the winner and up to 3 runner ups for the previous question. If participation is low, there will be fewer runner ups; the minimum number of entrants for a contest to be judged is 4. Submissions will close one week after the article is posted.

Guidelines:
- As stated above, just post a comment to this article to participate.
- None of the questions will have a direct, correct answer. If one does, the question chosen was bad and I give you permission to type angrily at me.
- With that in mind, make sure your answer is creative! Being clever, witty, and/or funny will heavily influence your chances (in your favor, of course) of having the best answer!  If you want to be really thorough, maybe even consider the preferences of the judges.
- It’s possible to answer some of the questions in one sentence, but writing slightly longer responses will most likely help you win. However, if your one-liner is amazing we won’t discount it just because it is short. Similarly, if you submit a wall of text with nothing of substance don’t expect to win just because your answer is long.
- Your answer must pertain to the question.
- You may only post one answer. If you post more than one, only the first will be looked at.
- Keep your answers appropriate.
- Proper grammar and punctuation helps.

Prizes:
QotW winner
QotW runner up

Note: There is no participation badge due to the nature of the contest (typing one sentence with no thought can take 10 seconds), so make sure to put effort into your answers!

Want to suggest a question for future Question of the Weeks?
Send Foodies a PM with a subject with something along the lines of: “QotW question suggestion”

Your question should be Smash/AiB-related, appropriate, and thought provoking. Questions that have the potential to produce entertaining answers are also highly preferred. Do not send questions that could cause a flame war (Ex: Should the community ban MetaKnight?), questions that can be answered with just yes or no (Ex: Is playing against Ice Climbers annoying?), or questions with correct answers (Ex: How many mid-air jumps does Kirby have?).

Here are some past examples to help your question designing:
- Which SSBB character would be the best at playing SSBB?
- You wake up as your main. What do you do?
- If every character was as powerful as they are in their actual game, who would be the best/worst fighter, and why?

The questions that are featured will give credit to people who asked them. You also get a badge! Note: You may not participate in the contest if the question featured for the contest is the one you suggested.

Prize:
QotW featured questioner

Results:
And now, here are the results from the previous competition! The question was: “What won't Kirby eat?”

★ ★ Winner ★ ★
NiteNinja:

"Kirby will not eat Miley Cyrus."

Judge’s comments:
"Even Kirby wouldn't dare eat her and risk transforming into her"
"I lol'd. Who would ever want to eat that?"
 "Ewwwwwww....LOL"
 "Even Kirby have standards!"
"Even kirby has enough common sense not to mess with that."

= Runner ups =
LinkMasterX9:
"Kirby will not eat a black hole, the black hole will eat him first or a inhale war will commence and everyone dies, the end."

Judge’s comments:
"Inhale war a go-go"
"Epic >>"
"Oh my, then Kirby will be lonely. ):"
"The end got me."

Italian Falcon:
"Kirby would not try to eat a supernova. If Kirby were to inhale a supernova into his black hole body, the explosion could tear apart the universe and cause a catastrophic explosion wiping out all life as we know it; whether it be on Popstar, Dream Land, Ripple Star, Patchland, Halcandra, or anywhere else."

Judge’s comments:
"I wish to test this"
"WOOSH! BOOM! AHHH! Dead."
"Explosion too good"
"While kirby most likely wouldn't know that this would occur, it's still funny."

File:
"Kirby won't eat that horrendous substance that they claim is food at my campus dining hall."

Judge’s comments:
"'Prison food' is what we used to call school lunches."
"I can relate to this so I feel for the response."
"Haha I know how you feel"
"I know that feel."

Congrats to the winner and runnerups!

Finally, here’s the question for this edition’s Question of the Week!

"Which Brawl character's world would you like to live in and why?"  - OrangeFox

What are you waiting for? Post your answers!
It’s a little hard to believe that it’s been an entire year since we last had a complete ladder season along with playoffs. With the site now having a DDoS protection service, things are finally looking good for us. That being said, I thought it would be a good idea to refresh everyone’s memory on how playoffs will be operating in a couple months, since it looks like we’ll finally be able to host the traditional event.

If you recall, back during the Spring ’13 playoffs we introduced a new system full of new prizes to be won by participants. Unfortunately that plan was never able to fully come to fruition due to the DDoS attacks. I say “fully” because part of that plan included the new name colors associated with the placing badges, but those were handed out when the site stabilized a bit. Now that the site is fully stable, I’d like to re-introduce the playoffs plan we’ll be operating under from now on.

The following prizes apply only to Singles Playoffs:
1st Place: $100 payout, a spot on the Ladder Champions Beach Ball, trophy
2nd Place: $50 payout, trophy
3rd Place: Trophy

The following prizes apply to all other playoffs (Doubles, Project M, Low Tier):
1st Place: $50 payout (per player for Doubles), a spot on the Ladder Champions Beach Ball, (team) trophy
2nd Place: $25 payout (per player for Doubles), (team) trophy
3rd Place: (Team) trophy

You probably noticed that everyone that places in the top 3 gets a special prize called a trophy. The trophies will essentially be custom trading cards that you can display on your profile to show off your achievement. Trophies aren’t just limited to the top playoffs placers either. In fact, everyone that plays on the ladder is eligible for a trophy. These other trophies will require a certain group to award them to you however, based on whatever category you decide to participate in (or possibly get entered into).

The following are the categories (and judging groups) of the trophies which everyone are eligible to win:
Sickest Combo (user submitted video, community judged)
Best Comeback (user submitted video, community judged)
Highest placing low tier* (placing determined, staff awarded)
Best W/L Ratio** (placing determined, staff awarded)
Sportsman of the season (community judged)
Most Matches Played (placing determined, staff awarded)
Most Improved (placing determined, staff awarded)
Biggest Upset (user recommended, staff finalist determined, community judged)

If these trophy categories end up being a success, we may add or modify categories for future ladders. If the overall idea flops, we’ll replace it with something else. If you want to submit a video to be judged for a trophy prize, please upload the video to Youtube and send me the link via a PM. (Raw replay data WILL NOT be accepted!) I will then compile all of the videos sent in and present them all at once for the community to judge. This will take place sometime during playoffs most likely. The deadline to submit videos for judgment will be set at 11:59 PM on March 31st.

In addition to the above prizes, everyone that makes at least top 64 in Singles and top 32 on the secondary ladders will get a badge. Each badge will give a name color corresponding to the color of the badge itself (so if the badge is green, you’ll get a green name color). Note: while top 64 and top 32 get badges, only top 32 for Singles and top 16 for the others qualify for playoffs.

Hopefully the opportunity to win some new and exciting prizes will get everyone hyped for the upcoming playoffs season. I’m looking forward to hosting another round of playoffs in April.
If you have any questions on any of the above, please feel free to leave a comment. I’ll respond as soon as I can.

Until next time. Happy Smashing!

*Singles Only
**Minimum of 20 matches must be played. Primary tiebreaker will be total wins.

*Editorial Note* This is a re-post. We are still searching for a new Head of Development and Technology. This position is of huge importance for our network moving forward. All the positive things we want to do for the site and community with the upcoming smash 4 release hinge on it. So we are imploring you to help spread the word. Even if you yourself are not a talented programmer, if you know someone who is make sure they know about this opportunity. If you are a talented programmer that even has some curiosity about the opportunity get in touch. I would be happy to sit down and cover our goals, projects, level of work we are looking for and talk through the whole situation to see if this would be a good fit for you and us. We are not going to force anything, it needs to be the right person, but this is also an adaptable situation where we can work around the other things you have going on in your life.

Thanks all!

We are looking for a new Head of Development and Technology at AiB and are accepting applications

With the upcoming 2014 release of Super Smash Bros U we thought it was an appropriate time shore up our development and maintenance to deliver the best AiB experience possible while continuing to grow the whole AiN network (TioPro Software, TioPro.com, and one rather large couple years into development project).

So you should have an asp.net background, be a talented coder, and have the ability to see projects through their completion. Primary responsibilities include:

  • -Coding and  Managing development ques/projects
  • -The ability to breakdown larger goals into manageable tasks and stepping stones. Including to ability to crowdsource a passionate community and put capable individuals in the position to contribute. Also, coordinate development progress with your own coding through the use of a overseas development firm *we have outsourced coding to them before and are comfortable with the job they do and its ability to expedite projects*

  • -We are on a managed server solution so both are relatively easy and non-time consuming
  • -Taking part in weekly Skype meetings to review company goals and discuss current operations

If you are interested please email your resume and a short cover letter detailing why you think you are the correct person for this position to [email protected]. You will hear back within 3 days of your application submission.

This is tremendous opportunity and the sole reason we are giving away an ownership stake is because we are looking for a tremendous person. We can go over the ownership stake, legal what have you, and any questions you might during the interview portion of this process. You will instantly become a key kog in an organization so it is important all parties are on the same page moving forward. We will do our best to clarify anything from our end.

Also, hype for another week before Apex!!!

Happy (late) New Year’s! It has been a year since the “End of the world” And here we are in 2014 ready to play another “Who’s that User?” Yay!

Last edition’s results: Milky was the mystery user of WTU #12. He is in the group I'll Take You All On!, has the letter “k” in his name, Has a friend code in which all of the numbers add up to 55, Was born in the year 1996, and Mains a character in the B tier list according to the Brawl v8 tier list.  Horsy, Foodies, Prey, Senobekim, and Toxic Spectrum were the first five to guess correctly, congratulations! There will be many opportunities to get it right another time (maybe even this contest!).

I am going to try a new thing where even though you were not in the top five, you still get an honorable mention so that you may receive cards for at least participating AND getting the right user along with the right answers. The drop ratio has been increased for you card collectors out there, so you will get better drops for being mentioned. Please note, even though you are being mentioned; ONLY the top five get the badges.

Honorable Mentions:
SGOlympian, GIR, Kami the Snow Lucario, GardevoirsGotAGun, and –Ness- were able to find the user and get the answers correct.

“What is the most abnormal thing I can think of about me...there really isn't much now that I think about. Actually, I'm pretty boring in reality. Oh well, we can't all be special I guess. The only pets I've ever had have been fish, and there has been a lot of them. Currently though, I have a pet Catfish in my room, who I've had happily for over 3 years now. I collect a lot of things, including cards, key chains, books, coins, and lots of other things. My hobbies mainly consist of running, playing most sports you can think of, and of course playing Smash Bros. And eating. I love to eat.  A lot. Especially Pumpkin Pie and Tacos. One last thing; Cogito Ergo Sum.”

In addition to the message above, this user...
- Has the party animal badge (pages 30-51)
- Has the letter “n” in their name.
-  Has a Pokémon module installed.
-Was born in Winter 1995
-located in the northernmost part of North America

And the questions you need to answer are as follows
  1. List the user’s Pokémon team (hover over for names)
  2. How many beach ball badges does the user have?

    3.   When did the user join the site?

4. And last of all, am I (NiteNinja) friends with the user?

Welcome back to another edition of Question of the Week! Last edition was interesting - ccst would have won first place except there's the rule that a user can't enter the contest in which their question suggestion was used (for fairness reasons). We forgot about the rule when judging at first. So this is just a shoutout to say we agreed overall that one was the best, but unfortunately a badge can't be awarded for it.

Information:
Each time an article is posted, it will contain a question to be answered. Just post your answer in the comments section of the article to participate. Easy right? The best answer and runner ups will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes: Foodies, Toxic Spectrum, Yoshinendo, Zano, OrangeFox, and Kyrow.

And now, here are the results from the previous competition! The question was: “What would you do if you could spend a day with your main?”

★ ★ Winner ★ ★
Horsy:

"If I could spend a day with Pikachu, I would generate infinite electricity worldwide to homes, businesses, cities and towns to eliminate the cost(s) of energy completely."

Judge’s comments:
"Not sure if it'd be infinite but it would be a nice boost. Yay for saving money."
"Clever as hell"
"I like this idea! It would be really helpful! My question is.. Have you thought about the poor Pikachu though..?"

= Runner ups =
Senobekim:
"If I could spend a day with Pit, I think it would be pretty awesome. The first thing I would do would have him take me up to Heaven. I could finally see what actually goes on up there, if it exists, what it is like. Hopefully I would get a chance to see some of my loved ones that have passed on. Then I would get him to take me to Palutena, so I could join her army and learn to fight among the ranks of Angels. Perhaps I would even be given weapons like Pit's with his Angel ring, bow and detachable blades. I would hopefully do some training and sparring with Pit, maybe turn into a formidable fighter. I would only get to spend one day with Pit and in Heaven, but I would hope it would be enough time to earn my wings. Flying would just be so incredibly cool. Anyways, that is what I would do if I could spend one day with my main, Pit."

Judge’s comments:
"Neat story he put on."
"Very well written short story"
"Another good read! Good job!"

Yoshinendo:
"Spending a day with Yoshi will be quite an adventure. First we'll be trying out all the restaurants in the area...and subsequently get kicked because the owner and managers believe I brought a pet inside the restaurants. Afterwards I'll take Yoshi to a farmer's market because he has been itching to eat some fruit, only to find out that they ran out of melons and watermelons. (Green Yoshi is Green.) He takes out his frustration by swallowing all the bystanders, turning them into eggs, and tossing them at all the stands. To cap off the day, we're going to play his favorite game, Yoshi's Story. Unfortunately, Yoshi believes the fruits on the TV are real and eats the TV. Overall, it would be an interesting day.”

Judge’s comments:
"Swallowing bystanders and throwing them as eggs heh"
"Yoshi will eat you if you don't vote for his."
"I kinda feel sorry for Yoshi, bathroom break comes later!"

File:
"If I could spend a day with Pikachu, I would encourage (force) him to mate with other mice, that way I could breed a new species of electric rodents, which would provide everyone with free electricity."

Judge’s comments:
"Forcing Pika to breed with mice for the worlds benefit? GENIUS"
"Pretty much the same idea as Horsy's."

Congrats to the winner and runnerups!

Finally, here’s the question for this edition’s Question of the Week!

"What won't Kirby eat?"  - Tikatou-Dnanobot

What are you waiting for? Post your answers!
This was planned for the Fall '13 Season but that became nonexistent due to the server attacks. However, now that the site is back and stable will be rolling out the following schedule for the Winter 14 season open now!

I have decided to make ladder events have a set schedule. While it is pretty much guaranteed that a tournament will interrupt an event, the events will be run often enough that I hope it won’t be a problem and people will have enough opportunities to get the badges they want. This format will probably be set for all the coming seasons, but I will make adjustments depending on how it goes for this season.

Here is the schedule. Note: Week of the X date includes day X.

= January =
3rd – Doubles Night
3rd, 4th, 5th - Doubles Weekend
10th, 11th, 12th  – Singles Weekend
Week of the 12th –Singles Perfect Week
17th - Doubles Night
17th, 18st, 19th - Doubles Weekend
Week of the 19th – Doubles Perfect Week

= February =
7th – Doubles Night
7th, 8th, 9th - Doubles Weekend
14th, 15th, 16th  – Singles Weekend
Week of the 16th – Singles Perfect Week
21st - Doubles Night
21st, 22nd, 23rd - Doubles Weekend
Week of the 23rd – Doubles Perfect Week

= March =
7th  – Doubles Night
7th, 8th, 9th - Doubles Weekend
14th, 15th, 16th  – Singles Weekend
Week of the 16th –Singles Perfect Week
21st - Doubles Night
21st, 22nd, 23rd - Doubles Weekend
Week of the 23rd – Doubles Perfect Week

Project M and Low Tier matches will count for the singles events. They have to be consistent in the particular ladder though (Ex: For perfect week, if you win 1 match for 6 days on the singles and 1 match on low tier ladder on the 7th day it doesn’t count.)
Days will be judged by any timezone you choose (default is your selected region's), but it has to be consistent across events.

Doubles Day
will now be a monthly event. By default, it will always be on the last Wednesday of the month. However, I will take requests for other days on the last week of the month if people want them. Either leave me a shoutout or check the Doubles Ladder Partner Finder and Support group announcement section for those updates. There will be a reminder sent out each month for the event. I will also try to team with a staff member so Double Danger will be available, and encourage other staff members to do so as well.

If you qualify for a badge, just leave me (Foodies) or WiR Doogi a shoutout to receive it. We will double check that you met the requirements and then give the badge(s).

This is also a notice that ladder trophy cards are still going to be a thing. Click here for that article. We will be using Template 1.

With the end of the year rolling around, I thought it would be a perfect time to interview someone who did outstanding during the year of 2013. For this I picked LOE1, a Michigander known for his patient play style and rage inducing time outs! With wins on MJG and Orion as Wario, this smasher has made a powerful statement putting the Midwest back on the map!

Ryuga: First I would like to congratulate you on getting top 5 at Phoenix Saga 6, that's an amazing triumph with a character like Wario!

LOE1: Thank you, I try my best. I honestly think people underrate Wario, he actually can be a really good character.

Ryuga: Even with the trash talk of your state you still manage to beat some great players, and keep a steady mindset during tournament matches. Please give us some insight on how you do this.

LOE1: Yeah, a lot of people hate on Michigan, thinking we only have Zinoto. They normally don’t think of me as a huge threat. I want to prove those people wrong, and I think slowly but surely I'm becoming more known. My mindset during all of my sets offline is to do anything to win. If that means timing people out, I’ll do it.

Ryuga: And as you know a lot of people get very frustrated at this, you've even timed me out a few times haha! Tell me how did you figure out Wario was perfect for you? Where did you begin? And lastly how did you make up this play style fit for you?

LOE1: Well, ever since I bought the game, I have mained Wario. Never switched mains or anything, I just liked how he worked. I started going to tournaments about three years ago, and for the first 6 months or so, I got last place. However, this never stopped my drive to improve. Slowly, I started beating good players. As for where I got my play style from, you can thank ice climbers for that. One tournament, my first big win, I beat lain by timing him out. Ever since then, I’ve stuck to the play style, and realized it’s the best way to play Wario in my opinion.

Ryuga: Your opinion is always the best opinion when you have stayed faithful to your character for so long, who helped you reach the level you're at today?

LOE1: To be honest, I mostly have to thank the people of Wi-Fi for that. I used to be on AiB every day practicing, getting friendlies with good players, and getting help from other Wario mains. All is Brawl is what made me start to get good, and I’d like to thank everyone that i used to play with back in the day.

Ryuga: Any names in particular you would like to mention?

LOE1: Let's see...Wafty for sure, our double Wario team is still really fun. There's also Mr. E for always being a nice guy when I played him in ladder. A final person I could think of would have to be iota for showing everyone that Wario could indeed be a big threat. There are many more, but those people are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Ryuga: Ah the double Wario team, always a formidable foe on the battlefield. Who else do you use?

LOE1: I have quite a few secondary’s I like to use for fun, like Snake, Pikachu, Diddy Kong, and Kirby. However, I would not use any other character in an offline tourney. I'll be going Wario all the way.

Ryuga: So just Wario offline, very faithful to your character. What do you think of the other Wario mains who are notable such as yourself? Like TheReflexWonder,  Abadango, or Gluttony?

LOE1: In my opinion reflex was and still is the best Wario in the world. He knows so much about Wario, I can't understand how he is so good with him. Abadango is also really good, but sadly he lost to Shaky at apex. The same goes for Glutonny, he makes aggressive Wario seem good. Also sadly, he lost to Mekos at SKTAR I think? Not giving discredit to the players that beat them, I just think that Wario should have prevailed. Anti and Ally also have very good Wario's even though they don’t main him. I could go on for every Wario main I know, but I’ll leave it at that for now.

Ryuga: Ah said like a true Wario! Tell me LOE1, what are your most notable wins so far? And please tell us about how this 100$ Money Match got started.

LOE1: My most notable wins I believe are MJG one time, Orion, Kain, and Bizkit. As for the $100 money match, a guy named TO Joe challenged me to the money match at Phoenix Saga 6. I accepted, and so it began. There were so many side bets going on, most of which thinking I would lose. Luckily, I had my Midwest crew on my side, and when the time came, I 3-0'd him. It was a big accomplishment for me, winning my first high stakes money match.

Ryuga: How did he challenge you to the Money Match, any drama beforehand? Fill us in!

LOE1: He posted on Tech Chase's(The TO of phoenix saga 6) Facebook page, saying, quote "make a high stakes money match between me & LOE1 happen at Phoenix Saga, it’s time I expose that baby ***** fraud, I’ll put up 100$ of my own money." I think he kind of got mad at me at SKTAR2 when I contributed to changing the bracket, but that’s the only thing beforehand.

Ryuga: And you took the cake and ate it too! Well I have one last question before I end this interview...
Ryuga: Who do you plan on beating next to continue working your way up to the best Wario spot?

LOE1: That’s a good question. At apex, I’m hoping to make top16, and beating anyone that stands in the way. Top 32 would also be fine, but I’m aiming for top 16. I'm not aiming for one specific player in particular. Whoever I’m pinned against at apex will be the people I plan on beating to keep up my reputation.

Ryuga: Smooth way of putting it. I like your style, Well this concludes the interview anything else you want to say to the people of AiB?

LOE1: Once again, I'd like to thank you people for helping me get as good as I am today, couldn’t have done it without you guys :). If you want to play, just ask me. However, don't get too mad if I end up timing you out...

Ryuga: Trust me he will.

Ryuga: Well I am Ryuga mostly known as Cody! And this concludes this interview with up and coming champion... LOE1!

Wow it has been a while since I've made one of these, but we are back with more challenges and questions! Now our last scavenger hunt, no one had gotten all the answers right, but I'll make these questions easy for you since no one got the answers right (and due to the fact that the site was down for a while, which got very little submissions)

 Rules:

1. You are only allowed 1 chance, to prevent people from guessing until they get it right.
2. You are to send me your answers to my AiB Inbox. You are not to post your answers on here. They will be deleted and I will not accept any more answers from you. Any message you send me, whether it having 1 answer or all 10, counts as 1 chance!
3. All the answers are found on AiB only! Not on any other Allis website.
4. I will not tell you if you won or not. You will find out when I post the results.
5. First 5 who get all the questions right win.
6. DO NOT message me for hints.
7. If something happens the day this is posted that affects the answers I have, I will use the most current answers available, but if you submitted your answer before any changes are made and it matches the old answer yours will still be correct.
8. You only have until 12:00AM PST to turn in answers. Anything after that will not be accepted.

Now without further ado, here are the questions:

QUESTIONS:

1. What badge is given when you help out a moderator?
2. "Bust my chops!" is a reference to what?
3. Which badge has the title "Feast on a blood of trolls"?
4.  "It's been said that you may favor them" is a reference to what?
5. "HEY! LISTEN!"
6. When did AIB become stabled again?
7. Who is known as "Aib's Lucario"?
8. "OBJECTION!" is a reference to what?
9. Who won "Question of the week #5"?
10. How many banners does the red skin have?
Bonus: What was every user's avatar changed into during the 2013 AIB April Fool's prank?

Easy questions right? Well good luck to you all out there and have fun! Oh and lastly, Happy Holidays! c:

Hello all, and welcome back to another “Who’s That User?” I want to thank Foodies for writing the last WTU article #11. Now that the site is back up and running (hopefully for good) We can get WTU started again!
Last edition’s results: OutcasT Enshento was the mystery user of WTU #11. He is in the group If you had only one word to describe your playstyle, what would it be? , has the letter “h” in his name, joined the site Winter 2010, and has accounts on other Ai sites.  Prey, -Ness-, Toxic Spectrum, Dark Snow, and Steph were the first five to guess correctly, congratulations! There will be many opportunities to get it right another time (maybe even this contest!).

“I tend to get discouraged easily a lot. I always want to be the best at everything I do... I push myself to the limit on basically everything. Once I set my mind on something, it isn't easy for me to just give up. Take brawl for example; it took me 2 years to finally make up my mind and main a new character that isn't low tiered. even though I main someone else, I'm still pushing through with my low tier character, because I do not want to give up on him/her.

Oh, and I like to sleep.”

In addition to the message above, this user...
- Is in the group I'll Take You All On!
- Has the letter “k” in their name.
-  Has a friend code in which all of the numbers add up to 55.
-Was born in the year 1996
-Mains a character in the B tier list according to the Brawl v8 tier list

And the questions you need to answer are as follows
  1. Who does the user main in Brawl?
  2. Where is the user’s location?
    3.   What is the user’s title?
    4. What is the user’s name? (NOT HIS USERNAME)

I can finally update this! Unfortunately, most responses were deleted since the server was reset. But luckily the contest was already judged and I still have the list of winners (just not what they wrote exactly), so we will proceed from here. I would also like to announce that OutcasT Enshento has joined the judging committee.

And now, here are the results from the previous competition! The question was: “What is Captain Falcon's favorite dance move and why?”

1st: Meek, with something along the lines of SHFFs and moonwalking! Runner ups: Hamek, whose response you can actually read since he posted it early enough to avoid the reset; Volke Aeno, with something along the lines of he doesn't have a favorite dance move because he asks people to "Show me your moves!";  DLA, with something along the lines of Isai. I have a pretty good memory right? *cough* Unfortunately, I don't remember the judges' comments so we're out of luck there.

Congrats to the winner and runnerups!

Let's get things up and running again! Here’s the question for this edition’s Question of the Week!

What would you do if you could spend a day with your main? ~ccst

What are you waiting for? Post your answers!

Yo Yo Yo what’s up AiB! I know it’s been a very long year, with half of it down due to database problems and DDoS, but we’ve finally recovered (hopefully for good). We were somehow still able to complete judging the two Halloween contests; the Costume Contest and the Pumpkin Carving Contest.  Through the long and difficult struggle we have determined the victors. Here are the results!

Costume Contest: The Costume Contest was a lot of fun with all of our contestants dressing up in a unique costume. The results were:
1. E.Nigma
2. Milky
3. Cookie_Monster123
3. Toxic Spectrum
5. Hamek

Pumpkin Carving Contest: Lastly, we also had our Pumpkin Carving Contest which was pretty impressive. I’ve never seen such amazing pumpkins before (although I’ve never carved a pumpkin either). The results were:
1. Furaigon
2. Boombafunk
3. Foodies
4. Milky
5. Toxic Spectrum

Congratulations to our winners Furaigon and E.Nigma! Here are their entries:
Furaigon -

E.nigma -

Also congratulations to the ones who tried very hard and came close, and were still able to make it to the finals! In the Costume Contest Milky got 2nd and we had a tie for 3rd place between Toxic Spectrum and Cookie_Monster123. The finalists for the pumpkin carving contest were Boombafunk and Foodies. Their entries can be found here:

Lastly, I just want to wish everybody a super fun but safe Christmas and I’ll see you at the next event!

As we covered in our welcome back announcement we had transitioned the site to a snappy new server and restored the database to get AiB back up and running.

Unfortunately, after getting AiB back up in roughly 24 hours we were the victim of DDos attacks against the site once again. The same type of attacks we have been dealing with since August of this year. The same type of attacks the entire smash community across several of the most common smash sites have been dealing with.

At this point, in the past few months, we have experienced more downtime than we ever wanted AiB. And felt we were left with no other alternative but to sign-up for a dedicated DDos protection service. You guys have already experienced enough downtime and we did not want to put you through more after just getting back up. It is unfortunate some individual(s) agenda against the smash community is going to cost us another $2,500 or so a year just keep our site up and running on top of normal server/ladder costs (and after pricing out all the services out there this is one of the lowest cost options out there by far).

Allisbrawl had been in an email chain with the other attacked sites dating back to when the attacks just started to explore possible suspects, ips, and possible action courses to identify the individuals responsible and persecute them for their actions. We will continue to explore all avenues. If anyone has any contacts in law enforcement or anything else that might help please let us know. We do not want to miss out on any options that might lead to the identification of the responsible party and taking legal action against them.

We are still tweaking the settings for the DDos protection service so it may take another day or two to have everything correctly configured. But we just wanted to let you know based on everything we have researched this DDos service should stop these attacks and keep AllisBrawl up and downtime free.

As frustrating as this situation has been for you it has for us as well. In spite of not being happy about the additional costs of the protection to deal with these continued attacks we are at least happy to be able to provide you an experience that will no longer have downtime because of them.

Hello AllisBrawl. Wi-Fi denizen Stridez here bringing you this short but sweet interview with the incredible Peach player SlayerZ. SlayerZ is known for being one of the top players in the ladder (current Spring 2013 Doubles Ladder Champion) and is more recently making quite the showing in the local offline scene, placing 2nd in both singles and doubles at Super Smash Sundays this past weekend.

Stridez: To start off, what is your name, age, and main in Smash for people who don't know?

SlayerZ: My name is Jacob, I'm 18 years old, and I main Princess Peach.

Stridez: How long have you used Peach, and why do you prefer to main her over everyone else?
SlayerZ: I've used Peach basically since the game came out, however I also used a variety of characters like Metaknight, Ike, and Kirby before, lol. But what stood out for Peach was her combo game and her ability float, which I loved.

Stridez: Those are some of her unique qualities as a character that really set her apart from the rest of the cast, and you especially as a player. You are known for your very quick low string combos with Peach, as well as your precise float cancels. Do you feel like her uniqueness makes up for her weaknesses as character?

SlayerZ: Lol, uair strings are soo good. Floating is amazing, without it I really think Peach would be really, really bad. It gives her more mobility with float cancels, and fast punishes out of shield. Another reason why floating is so good because you can poweshield MK's nado just by ledge floating onto the ledge and simply shielding. MK's nado destroys Peach, but this gives her a way to combat it. So yes, it really does make up for the weaknesses she has.

Stridez: That is a very clever option to use versus one of her most difficult matchups. Do you spend a lot of time looking for new options with Peach, or are there other Peach players you look to for advice/new strategies?

SlayerZ: Yes, I do. The training room is very helpful for finding little obscure things to add to your playstyle. Kie in particular does many interesting things that I have added to my playstyle, which by the way has been working really well lol. He wanted me to contact him, which I did. Through Twitter and we talk about Peach stuffs. Silly Kyle and I also talk about  Peach strategies, in hopes of improving her metagame. So my Peach references are the training room, Kie and Silly Kyle (my boo 4 lyfe<3).

(Kie is a strong Japanese Peach player, widely considered the best Peach overall, and Silly Kyle is a Peach main from Arizona who competes with SlayerZ currently for the title of best Peach on the west coast)

Stridez: Both Kie and Silly Kyle are amazingly successful with Peach, and it’s nice to see that you a sharing that same success in recent times. On another aspect of training, lets talk about your history of playing wifi. For as far as I know, you have dominated the singles and doubles ladder with top placings since as far back as 2010. That level of consistency is pretty amazing. What are some of the pros and cons of playing wifi, in your opinion?

SlayerZ: Thank you! Wifi allows you to implement and try new things out to add to your playstyle. That's basically what I use it for now, to try to improve my offline game. It's also very good for match up practice and getting pretty colorful names, lollll. Cons include: lag, rage inducing, irritating/immature wifi players, I know I can think of more, but not at the top of my head. But yeah, play wifi at your own risk, LOL.

Stridez: Thats interesting to hear that you use it as a tool for improving your skills offline. Were you always using wifi as a way to prepare for competing in person? I ask because there was a time when you didn't attend any events here in SoCal, all while placing top in the Allisbrawl ladders.

SlayerZ: I really just used it to get better as a player in general, but now that I have changed my playstyle drastically over the years, it's now mostly for implementation. Yeah I was a wifi monster but now I attend all the SoCal monthlies. It's easier because I just got my license so I don't have to be as dependent on others.

Stridez:  That leads to my next question. Now that you are pretty much a regular attendee of these regional tourneys, what are some of your impressions of the offline scene as whole?

SlayerZ: I like the offline scene, it's fun and there's lots of nice and cool people. The competition is exciting. Overall it's enjoyable and wish I was a part of it sooner.

Stridez: Yes there's so much excitement that goes a long with playing in tournament matches, and I'm really thankful for all of the cool people I've met through tournaments. I'd definitely recommend attending to anyone who hasn't yet. Taking a step back from smash, do you have any other interests? Such as sports, schools of study, etc.

SlayerZ: Besides smash, I'm mostly at college, with my boyfriend, or hanging out with my cousin. Right now I'm attending Mt.Sac and majoring in psychology or bio... maybe a double major, dunno. And I don't play sports, but I exercise often at home.

Stridez: Wow I didn't know you also attended Mt. Sac. I know a few friends (and smashers) who go there as well. How lucky for you that they started hosting large events right across the street from where you go to school lol.

SlayerZ: Yeah I'm like 10 minutes away from the venue, yay. And Mt.Sac does have a small smash scene. They play Brawl, PM, and Melee. Sometimes If I'm not busy after class, I'll go play and hang out with the smashers there for a bit.

Stridez: That's cool! You should get them to come out to the next tourney. It’s always interesting to see a new face. You never know who the next low/mid tier hero might be.

Stridez: That will conclude the interview. Before that do you have any shoutouts you would like to give?

SlayerZ: Lol we'll see. Shoutouts to mah boo Silly Kyle, Legyt aka Queen Beyonce, and Stridez for being a wonderful interviewer.

Stridez: Haha thanks man. See you at the next tournament, and good luck with the rest of your endeavors.

AiB is back!
As I am sure you have noticed AiB has been down and dealing with technical issues these past weeks. I wanted to take a minute to explain to you the what, why, and going forward of it all.
From the very beginning when Neal and I created this site we aimed to provide a great and stable platform for people that were into smash, to play, make friends, improve, and be apart of a community around it. We were fortunate to be able to do that with no extended interruptions in service for over 5 years since our inception. And are proud of that. However, since August of this year we have been facing DDos attacks bringing our network down intermittently. We would work with our server provider to take temporary protection steps to get us back up. But most solutions were a bandage, rather than a full blown end all solution. There are 3rd party companies out there that provide you cloud prevention for DDos attacks but they are all expensive. Think the type of stuff banks would use for their server, solutions costing thousands a month. Meaning they would bankrupt us and AiB would be no more if we were forced to budget that type of protection in month in and month out. The good news is these attacks are pretty resource intensive and difficult to sustain for a prolonged period. We are also better educated and ready to put in place short term solutions should these types of attacks start up again.
So apologies for failing to live up the expectation of providing you a constant and stable platform. It is important to us. And given our resources we are doing our best to provide that for you.
Upgraded!
So not only are we back but we are back with a brand new shinny server. What had happened, and was actually directly responsible for the downtime, was database corruption issues. One of the unexpected offsets of the DDos attacks was a high level of increased strain on the server and database itself which eventually lead to this outright database failure. Fortunately, we did have a backup so we could restore 99% of data. Unfortunately, this back-up was a couple weeks old from the point the site went down. Meaning anything that had happened (pms, wall posts, badges earned, etc) in that two week period is permanently gone. We could have just requested a replacement database hard-drive in our server. But as we worked to restore everything we thought it is a good opportunity to upgrade the server outright. As we prepare for the Smash 4 release next year we wanted to ensure our hardware was equipped to deal with the level of excitement around the newest smash game and provide the platform you all deserve to, constructively, put that excitement to use. So everything has been upgraded and our entire network has been transitioned to the new server as of now. The new server is better, faster, and more powerful *and more expensive :(*.
Possible Lingering Bugs
So as I mentioned above. With this upgrade we moved every single piece of AiB code to this new server, restored an old database, and brought it all back up. Doing so is a lot of code and server transition. We have been on a closed IP since Saturday for our staff to test out AiB and let us know if anything is not working properly. We feel pretty confident with the help of those guys and gals most everything is working as it should. However, if you notice anything that is not please post in the comment section below so we can take a look and verify the code was properly transitioned. Any lingering transitional stuff we hope to get fixed in short order here.
Clean up of any exsisting issues
When it comes to losing about two weeks worth of database stuff for the most part theres nothing we can do about it. However, if its a situation where you earned a badge in those two weeks and can remember the staff member that gave it to you and why. I would reach out them via pm and hopefully they will recall the conversation and re-gift you the badge. In the coming days we will also be revisiting past ladders to make sure they and all winners are squared away and address any upcoming ladders. In short the staff will be working to make sure everything is as it should be.
Relaunch Promotions
As our way of saying we are back and we missed all of you we will be running some promotions. Anyone that logged into their account between now and Thursday December 19th 11:59 EST will get an "upgraded 2013" badge in the spirit of our server upgrade. We are also tossing around some ideas for a couple other promotions internally. Wanted to get the site back up as soon as possible but will have more news about the rest of the promotions in the coming days.
Sorry about the downtime. We missed ya guys and are glad to be back!

This week on AiB has been pretty eventful for me. Organizing TCG trivia, looking for content writers, temporarily breaking the front page, sorting out TCG rules, and doing some preliminary work on staff cleanup. But now it's time for the next QotW!

I would like to announce that Toxic Spectrum has joined the judging committee and Horsy and Niteninja have been removed due to inactivity. I am still open to adding one more judge so let me know if you are interested. The only requirements are being active (meaning voting for each contest) and not being ridiculous in your judgments (Ex: voting for someone who puts an unrelated nonsense response to the question; sort of self explanatory).  It also helps if you have won a previous QotW since you know the types of things we are looking for, but winning a past contest is not required.

Information:
Each time an article is posted, it will contain a question to be answered. Just post your answer in the comments section of the article to participate. Easy right? The best answer and runner ups will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes: Foodies, Toxic Spectrum, Yoshinendo, Zano, and OrangeFox.

The question was: “Why do Olimar's eyes bulge?”

★ ★ Winner ★ ★
Nicholas1024:
"Many years ago, Olimar was on a routine delivery, when suddenly, disaster struck. An asteroid smashed into his spacecraft, severely damaging it and worse yet, cracking the captain's helmet. Though it was a tiny, seemingly insignificant fracture, the air he needed to breathe was slowly leaking out, into the toxic atmosphere of the unknown planet. In thirty days, his spacesuit would be naught but a tomb for his suffocated corpse. However, slim as his hope was, he forged onwards. By nurturing, raising, and subsequently sacrificing hundreds of the local fauna/flora hybrids, he was able to repair his craft before his time ran out, and leave the planet, back towards home. Despite this though, the ordeal took a grim toll on the captain. The sheer number that died weighed heavily on his consciousness, and although he attempts to maintain his composure, his bugged out eyes convey a haunted look to those that meet his gaze. Even now, if the captain listens carefully, he can still hear the death screams of the creatures that sacrificed their lives to save his."

Judge’s comments:
"Telling the story how it was, but with the most detailed writing for these contests so far."
"Pretty good story and the creativity he had."
"This sounds like a legit explanation, sounds like he has some friends inside of Nintendo."
"I love the darkness in this answer, love this answer the most, very creative!"

= Runner ups =
lobsterfest:
"hyperthyroidism"

Judge’s comments:
"Didn't think a one-word response would ever be adequate until now. Lol'd."
"Scientifically makes sense"
"One word but makes sense and is to the point, props."

Tikatou-Dnanobot:
“He is the bugged-eyed alien from Toy Story with three eyes that say "We are eternally grateful!" He lost an eye when Sid chose him through "The Claw". Sid ripped his lungs out so he wears a helmet. He got so traumatized when Sid tortured him he turned really pale! His suit was changed when aliens discovered and took him to their planet and gave him the S.S. Dolphin. There's your answer.”

Judge’s comments:
"Creative."
"Toy Story was my childhood."
"Toy Story! I like this one a lot because I was honestly thinking of the same thing with the aliens!"

Axew:
"Since Olimar Travels to Different Planets, He rides his rocket to outer space and the high pressure makes his eyes pop out which is why he barely opens his eyes anymore. Olimar uses his Pikmin to guide him and protect him because he can't open his eyes or else his eyes will pop out."

Judge’s comments:
"Another logical explanation. Which explains why he always needs his "eye-seeing" Pikmin."
Very logical explanation, I like it!"

*I (Foodies) was actually a runner-up by votes but I already have the runner up badge so I gave it to the person with the next most voting points. Here were the comments:

"This is probably a good number of reactions from the other users as well. Mainly the part being up though."
"Thank GOD the site's back up! My eyes popped out too "
 "That is eye opening."

Congrats to the winner and runnerups!

Finally, here’s the question for this edition’s Question of the Week!

"What is Captain Falcon's favorite dance move and why?"  - Masakado

What are you waiting for? Post your answers!

With the end of Brawl 'til Fall 2013 ladder season, I thought it would be the perfect time to interview someone who placed well in it.  I picked out Cody, a New Englander formerly known as Quest, who placed second in the ladder with an impressive record of 22-0.

Hamek: First and foremost, I'd like to congratulate you on getting second on the fall 2013 ladder, that's quite an accomplishment, especially since you were undefeated.

Cody: Well… thanks, but it was only a joke ladder lol.

Hamek: Even so, not losing at all in 22 matches is nothing to sneeze at.  According to the brawl widget on your profile you main Zero Suit Samus, but in some of the feedback I noticed that your opponent mentioned you played Sonic.  Who did you use during this ladder season?

Cody: I used mostly three characters. ZSS, MK, and Sonic.

Hamek: Is that because you wanted to see how your Meta Knight and Sonic complimented your ZSS in certain match-ups or because you just wanted to have some fun playing different characters?

Cody: Mostly to have fun. I just used Sonic to see how he would do and as for Meta Knight, it was a joke ladder. But I wanted to practice tech skill and input consistency for using him more offline.

Hamek: Speaking of that, you live in New England, a region which to my knowledge has had a good amount of drama, were you yourself involved in any drama?

Cody: Sure I trash talk a lot of the other players hoping to motivate them to improve. I want them to be able to compete against any other regions we might have to face at a national but when I trash talk it's all in good fun. They know I joke around (or at least I think they do).

Hamek: Trash talking people is a great way to make them focus on getting better to try to beat you, I agree.

Cody: The "drama" we have is just an occasional argument on aib. We don't even do it as much anymore. Everyone is nice in person at the tourneys I attend.

Hamek: Yeah, I saw arguments on allisbrawl and wasn't sure if that extended to offline or not.  It's nice to see that it doesn't. Who do you think is the best player you've beaten?

Cody: Well, I haven't beaten anyone *super pro* yet, but I do have a winning record on Joe ST in tourney, and he's pretty good. Also Sails, the best Diddy Kong in New England, who beat Bloodcross.

Hamek: A similar question but changing the focus a bit, is there anyone who you think is underrated in the smash scene?

Cody: There might be a few.

Hamek: Do you have anyone in mind?

Cody: Maybe Falln the kirby main? I think he's pretty amazing or… on the east coast, maybe Koolaid. Koolaid doesn't go out of region as often as Bloodcross and Mike Ray do, but he is still very consistent. All the "good players" I can think of are already pretty famous. Oh, maybe some Japanese players are underrated.

Hamek: I looked up falln and he has some impressive wins, one against Mikehaze and one against Tyrant too. Is there anyone specific who you practice a lot with or is do you ladder mostly by going to tournaments and playing ladder?

Cody: I live in New Hampshire, in a very rural area. The only other New Hampshire brawlers I know of are Artemis the Pikachu main, aqua421 the Kirby/Pikachu main, and etecoon the MK/Snake main. etecoon's aib account is Nick C. They all live at least an hour from me, so unfortunately most of my practice at home is from wifi. Luckily, there are tourneys that happen every month or so in New England.

Hamek:
Is there anyone specific on wifi you you play with a lot?

Cody:
Probably etecoon (Nick C.) when I see him in free play we usually play for a while. I also practice with Yoss, Ryuga, and Foodies sometimes.

Hamek:
You've got quite the variety of mains accounted there, MK, Snake, Falco, and Marth.

Cody: Yeah this is why I believe wifi is very good practice.

Hamek:
Yeah, it means that you're able to easily find people who main any character, you're not bound by who you live near.

Cody: The only high-level players I can face offline use Snake, MK, and Falco. On aib I can practice against many other match ups as well.

Hamek: That should definitely help you, especially in national tournaments where there are high level players who main just about any character. You joined allisbrawl right at the beginning of 2010, were you playing Brawl before that on another site or did you start playing when you joined allisbrawl?

Cody: I started competitive brawl on another site but only a month before joining aib (December 09). when I joined aib and swf it's where I really started getting into tourneys and watching the pros.

Hamek: Do you think you were at a disadvantage due to coming into the scene a bit late, or did you take advantage of it due to having a clean slate as the metagame was really starting to develop and change?

Cody: No, I don't think coming into the scene late was a problem. there are people who started much later than I did and are doing very well now.

Hamek: Okay, one final question. The end of the ladder coincided with allisbrawl being down for a while due to a Denial of Service attack. Are you disappointed that ladder playoffs were canceled and you could not see how far you could take your winning streak?

Cody: I'm not really disappointed. I had to play CT Zero round 1 and that was of course difficult because of the distance. Similarly, last playoffs I had to play Z, who is also distant from me (so it was pretty laggy). I prefer the ladder because you get to choose your opponents, and I usually pick the ones with whom I have a good connection. If I'm allowed to make a closing comment about the last ladder season .

Hamek: Yeah, I was going to ask what your thoughts were next, so go ahead.

Cody:
Then I'd say it was fun. I played over 100 matches, and it was my first time using ZSS and MK in a serious ladder. I definitely benefited from it. The joke ladder was fun as well, and I did treat most of my matches seriously. I'm appreciative of the aib staff who worked hard to make the ladder run as it did (both the spring season and the joke ladder.)

Hamek: Yeah, it's a bit hard for the staff to make it run smoothly with neal having a limited presence. Once again I'd like to thank you for your time.

Cody: No problem, thanks for interviewing me.

So there you have it, someone who came into the brawl scene a bit later than most but still found a way to hone his skills and become a great player.
