From Long Distance, Vinnie Strikes AGAIN!
GhaudePhaede010: So this is a first - I am interviewing someone on
another continent. But this is not a first because I have interviewed
this man before. But this IS a first because I have never interviewed
someone twice in my career. If you read the first interview and loved it
(I did) or you did not catch the first one, I can assure you THIS will
be the first of its kind from me and him. So, I am joined by the man I
believe has risen the most over the last year (you can argue Nairo if
you want) from local hero, to regional hero, to national threat, to as
of his last tournament showing, INTERNATIONAL PHENOM! I have with me
today, all the way from Japan, VINNIE! Vinnie, thank you for battling
time differences and crazy mishaps to get this interview in. THANK YOU
SO MUCH! It is an honor to have you back!
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Thank you ^^ it is an honor to be interviewed again by you.
GhaudePhaede010:
I wish I could start this out with some sort of amazing Japan related
question but I have this on the mind; how in the world did you get so
damn good in such a short time since our last interview?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: I feel as if I have been on a constant improvement rate
since Brawl`s release. I am always looking for ways to get better and
improve in any way, whether it`s tech skill, smarts, or matchup
knowledge.
GhaudePhaede010: I think most players do
this but my lord, your progression over the last year has been extreme
to me. I mean, you went from local hero to regional menace, to National
superstar like in a snap. And if I may say so myself, after your last
event showing, you have to be one of the few mentioned in the true
International stardom. Are you still on the rise? Do you feel you have
peaked yet or is the best of Vinnie still to come?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: I feel like I will never stop improving until I quit.
SRT is this weekend and I plan to do as well as possible, which includes
bringing back the gold for USA ^^
MUTHA ****ING
VINNIE: The Japanese came through APEX 2012 with major force; taking top
two, AND winning doubles. I would really like to take the title back,
so the Japanese will have a lot of motivation to come to APEX 2013.
GhaudePhaede010:
With the recent Brawl, "Hall of Fame" recognition that has gone around,
being honest, after your recent streak and performances, should you be
in the running for the next elected class? Is it still premature to talk
about you as a Brawl Hall of Fame player in your opinion?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: I feel like I am one of America`s best players, but
every person that got mentioned has won a national before, and I
haven`t. I am one of the few people in America to not have a losing
record against Mew2king, though. I think I should be added if I get top 2
at SRT, that`s all I`ll say xD
GhaudePhaede010:
Patrick Ewing never won a championship, but he is still considered a
Hall of Famer... winning a National is not what I think it takes and
definitely should not be the "be-all-end-all" to it. Winning a National
is one major feat but I believe Lee Martin should be considered even
though he never won a National, and coming in second at a Sumabato is
probably just as well.
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: SRT will be way more stacked than Sumabato in my opinion. Thank you though.
GhaudePhaede010: You took second at Sumabato; how did Mew2King (Current Hall of Famer) do? Yeah, I said it.
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: ~~~the callout~~~~
GhaudePhaede010: Hall of Fame that, Jason!
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: xD
GhaudePhaede010:
And with that, I will never be able to interview Jason again. Let’s
move on. I know SRT is like, days away and the hype for this event is at
fever pitch for you but before I get there some of us want to know; how
is Japan as a country? Are you having a good experience with the people
and the country? Are there any cultural differences I may not know
about the country, having never visited?
MUTHA ****ING
VINNIE: hmm... everyone here is really nice. The culture is pretty
different and I am definitely enjoying my stay however, I am getting
homesick =x
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: I do not regret coming though; this is definitely a life changing experience.
GhaudePhaede010:
As you said, Japan came out to APEX 2012 and took the top two singles
spots as well as winning doubles. You just took second at an event on
Saturday and I believe you put in mad work and gained a lot back for
America. Second is not first, this I know, but do you think you have
already started on the road to redemption for our country?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: I do feel proud of my second place performance, but I
am more interested to see how I will do in East Japan (SRT), where most
of Japan`s powerhouses are (Nietono, Otori, Brood, Yui, Mikeneko, etc).
GhaudePhaede010: Do you feel like the Japanese Brawlers
respect you more now than before? I know when you come back here, you
will basically be greeted to a hero's welcome and the level of respect
for you will be through the roof. You are there playing under Japan's
more conservative rule set. I have long been an advocate of this rule
set and feel it is most productive for our games quality and diversity.
Do you feel their rule set helps or hinders you in any way?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: I feel like Mew2king is way more famous overseas than I
am due to him being a Melee legend as well as being the number one
target for them at APEX 2010. However, due to me doing considerably
better than him at Sumabato, I think they now recognize me as a top
threat as well.
GhaudePhaede010: You are playing under
Japan's more conservative rule set. I have long been an advocate of this
rule set because I feel it is most productive for our game's quality
and diversity. Do you feel their rule set helps or hinders you in any
way?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: I am also a fan of the
Japanese rule set. The past five tournaments I hosted were Japanese rule
set. I did this for two reasons: 1) to bring a different rule set
series to the US. 2) to practice for when I go to Japan. The rule set
helps me because I am able to counterpick FD with Ice Climbers, which is
their best stage.
GhaudePhaede010: This past Saturday,
you used every character in your arsenal (an impressive arsenal at
that). Did you feel more comfortable using Ice Climbers than anyone
else? How did your Game and Watch perform and will we be seeing you
using him this weekend (I was always a huge fan of you Game and Watch)?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: My Game and Watch didn`t do as
well as I wanted him to. Other than me almost 3 stocking a Metaknight
player that was considered pretty good, I lost to Earth and Kie with
him. I am going to be using GW against Otori most likely, as well as the
other top Metaknight players if I lose with my Ice Climbers.
GhaudePhaede010:
I know that 9B (pronounced Kyuubi or Qubee) is your favorite Smash
player and I also know you are probably using his computer to do this
interview. How does that feel and is there a mutual level of respect
between you two? Is he as good as the hype entails?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: At Sumabato, in his interview, he said he was expecting
to be fighting Kakera or Mew2king in GF, not me. He said I am a very
strong player and I respect him the same. Mew2king thinks he is the best
in the world, I think he is top 3. I do think he is beatable.
GhaudePhaede010:
WOW! Those are huge words coming from you and Mew2King about him.
Anyone reading this must check out SRT to see what all the talk is
about. Going back for a second, you did outperform Mew2King at Sumabato
which leads me to wonder how he took that? Is there a small rivalry now
between you two out there? What I mean IS, does he feel like there is
MORE pressure on him to outperform you at SRT now?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: Not really. We are way more concerned with helping each
other more than anything. USA is far less represented than Japan was
when they came to USA for APEX 2012. We need as much help and support as
we can get. Mew2king actually lent me money to go to Japan, so I am
really thankful for that. We only have a rivalry in the US.
GhaudePhaede010:
M2K lent you the money? What a guy. Tell him he still owes me a boat!
As the tournament draws closer, I know you will start feeling the
nerves. Not every player there will be a killer, but on thee other hand,
most all the true killers will be there. Are you starting to feel the
nerves yet or is that still some time off? Who would be your ideal Grand
Finals opponent? Who are you looking forward to meeting that you have
not met? And who is going to be there that you really want to beat, for
whatever reason?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: I am trying to
not feel nerves at all, even though that is probably inevitable. My
ideal Grand Finals opponent would be Mew2king or Havok but only because I
want America to take top 2 at SRT like Japan did at APEX 2012. I have
met most of the Japanese top players, the only ones I have not met are
like, Mikeneko, Hayase (not going to SRT), SLS, and... I guess that`s
it.
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: I really, really want to beat Otori, Nietono, and 9B.
GhaudePhaede010:
SRT is like, thee only Japanese event to have a money prize pot. How
big is the pot? If you do end up taking the crown, will you be blowing
money on Japanese prostitutes and rare Anime and other, "collectibles"?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: The pot is $2,000. First place is
$1,000. If I win, I`ll use it to pay back Mew2king. I owe him $1,650
atm. I don`t really watch anime or collect anything… nothing is really
as important as paying my fees off xD
GhaudePhaede010:
What? Nothing could possibly be more important than a rare Pikachu
vibrator. Thunderjolts are never going to be the same. One thing I
noticed is that for the doubles, "side event" at Sumabato you did not
team with Mew2King instead teaming with 9B. Double Ice Climbers was
hilarious by the way... Is there going to be a doubles event at SRT and
if so, who do you plan to team with?
MUTHA ****ING
VINNIE: There is a doubles event, and I am teaming with Mew2king. I just
wanted to troll with 9B while Mew2king tried teaming with Kakera.
GhaudePhaede010: I did not see thee event through because of the time difference, how did each of you do?
MUTHA
****ING VINNIE: We got 3rd lol. We lost to Fuwa/Earth with
Metaknight/Lucario. M2k/kakera lost to Dio and Sakasaka. Everything was
best of 1.
GhaudePhaede010: Speaking of best of one, I
heard of an incident that happened during your pools matches at
Sumabato. I was told you lost to a rather, "random" Metaknight because
you did not know the rules were it was a best of one set. Is there any
truth to this? Is SRT also best of one? And did nobody really tell you
it was best of one?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Nobody told me
it was best of 1 until after I lost game 1 (the set). However, I played
that same MK round 1 of bracket and 2-0'd him with GW, almost 3
stocking him game 1. I am unsure about SRT, but since it is a 3 day
event, I assume everything is best of 3.
GhaudePhaede010: Do I smell a conspiracy?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: inb4 me and m2k in the same pool.
GhaudePhaede010:
It is bound to happen, right? But seriously, SRT is going to be huge
and hopefully it will bring out the best in everyone involved. From what
you have seen thus far, is there a player roaming Japan that may rise
to thee occasion ala Nairo at APEX2012?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Hmmm. To be honest, nobody comes to mind. Mew2king said maybe Shogun (Snake player).
GhaudePhaede010:
Ryo took fifth at WHOBO 4 last Saturday. If you were there, would he
have placed as well as he did? Yea, I am trying to start some ****. Tell
Mew2King he owes me a boat!
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: I
think I would lose to Ryo. I think I am a better player than him, but he
would probably beat me with Ike gimmicks since I don`t know how to
fight Ike. I would win if MK was legal though (but at WHOBO, he was
not).
GhaudePhaede010: Vinnie, that is NOT helping me
start ****! What kind of answer is that? But seriously, shout-outs to
Ryo killing it for Florida! I have to admit, the majority of the people I
talk to (myself included(yes I talk to myself and yes I put parenthesis
inside parenthesis)) are very jealous of you being able to get to Japan
and play in this event. We hope you are soaking it up and enjoying it
there. Have you done much outside of Smash while there? You know the
whole, "tourist" thing?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Yui and El
took me to see the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings, and I have
been visiting food places as well. I plan to do more tourism before I
leave (on 8/22).
GhaudePhaede010: Dude, seriously that
is so hype. I want to cry with excitement for you! You got to chill with
****ing Yui! Last question, if you could have taken any one Brawler
with you to experience this and help you feel less homesick, who would
it be (besides me, obviously) and why?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Probably Viva. I know he wanted to go on this trip more than I did. I`ma make you proud Steven!!!
GhaudePhaede010:
Vinnie, I am so happy you took time out, from Japan, to hit me up and
get an interview in. I hope you win. And I mean that. As much as I love
Shu (and Mew2King), I hope you win and make most of the matches not even
close. Please tell me you have some shout-outs and e-hate ALL THE WAY
FROM THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN (everyone knew it was coming, right?)
because I feel this interview would be a total waste of time without it.
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Shout-outs to LIOS (Minty, Viva,
Coontail). Shout-outs to everyone back home. ANTi, Fire, Problem,
Allied, Dabuz, Will, and Nairo.
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: LET`S GO AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GhaudePhaede010:
I want this at thee end of the interview because I never make requests
like this and never will again but can I make your name next to your
replies, "MUTHA ****ING VINNIE"?
MUTHA ****ING VINNIE: Sure ^^ It`ll be censored on AiB though, haha.
