Tricks, Glitches and Combos XV
by JoeR July 24, 2:39 PM

Here we are again with another edition and this time general silliness is the theme! In the last edition we talked about CPU intelligence, so now it makes sense to show just how dumb they can be! We also have some glitches and combos of course, so hold onto your butts as we dive into the world of Super Smash Brothers!

Every game has its Tricks, Glitches and Combos and Brawl is full of the shtuff! Upon its release nothing was known about the game and the secrets it held, but now they’re used by the bundle in every match and every set played! Some are used very seriously and some are used merely for fun. That’s why we’re here to show you what’s up even if it’s just for laughs! Let’s spice up your day with some SMASH! =D

Ledge Running!!!!

Have you ever worried about just falling off a ledge or plummeting to your immediate death? Well with this nifty glitch you will never have such suicidal or troubled thoughts again! This glitch has you running straight to the ledge with no end in sight! Instead of falling off, the character will just run in place on the ledge at half speed. I love glitches that can be used in competitive play and this one seems good for a mind game here and there depending on the character. How can one do this glitch? Simply tilt the control stick down slightly, but not far enough to crouch and your character should run a little slower than normal. Once you reach the ledge you will notice that they just keep on running until the movement is altered. Simple and fun, yes?

Great moments In Dumb CPU History!!!

We all know that in Brawl the CPU is on another level from past games. They can really give a noob a run for there money, but no matter what a CPU does it is still just a CPU and therefore has its fair share of stupidity. I'm actually thinking of making this a regular edition to Tricks, Glitches and Combos because the CPU can just be so darn funny! Kinda like America's funniest home videos. If you have one in mind, post it in the comments section and it may be featured!

Show Me Your Moves!

This CPU clearly has none as it cowers in fear of Captain Falcons might. This is a level 9 CPU Snake and it is indeed dumb.

Target Missed... by A LOT!!!

Wolf needs serious help when it comes to aiming his tank. Maybe he should stick to using just his little dagger gun, lol. This CPU is also level 9 and is even dumber than the last one. Is there any hope for this CPU? NOPE!

Pit-Arrow Looping

Arrow looping is simple, but in order to be used effectively requires a great amount of focus and timing. An arrow can be looped by rotating the joystick at an even pace. Sounds easy, but keep in mind that too fast or slow will result in losing control of the arrow. It's important to have this technique mastered before using it competitively because screwing it up will leave you open to attack, but when it is used effectively your opponent will have two options.

1. Get hit by an arrow
2. Get after the initial dodge finishes

There literally is no down side and arrow looping has many different styles too! You can loop an arrow into a circle, horse shoe, knot and more! Check out this video of effective arrow looping! Half way through the video there is real competitive examples too.

That's all for now, but stay tune for more tricks with the arrows and dumb CPU moments!

Keep smashing AllisBrawl and look forward to the next exciting episode of Tricks, Glitches and Combos!

None of the videos used in the making of this article were done by me or feature me. They feature other fantastic members of the SSB community.

I love running in place on the ledge.
I always do it after KO'ing my opponent as a way of taunting.

lol at trying to make folks think arrow looping is useful...

the pit mains who've seriously attempted to "master" this flashy "gimmick" like myself and another....user here, both agree that its not worth bothering to learn it, its nothing more then a gimmick, if you wanna "oooh" and "ahhh" the crowd watching the match, thats about the only thing its good for, its impossible to get perfect accuracy with it, and while performing it, you are forcing yourself into a predictable pattern that a smart oppenent can take advantage of, since you are trying to control the arrow.

plus....in every situation where a looped arrow "might" be useful, a normal one usually IS useful.

Arrow looping is very fun to do

Wow, I'm a pit user and I didn't know about looping arrows until I just watched that vid. It's pretty cool. I agree with "The Fallen Angel" that it's probably not effective in competitive play, but it's fun to wow the audience if you know you're gonna win icon_smile

Hm.... Old stuff, but good article I guess.

By the way, the level "9" CPU was definitely NOT a level 9. If nothing else, they dodge and move a lot, did that one move at all besides his up B?

the ledge running thing isnt really a glitch

One time, I started a match on FD against a lvl 9 Wario and then went to do something else. He Naired me, knocking me to the ledge, Naired again, going off the ledge and missing me, jumped into the lip of the stage, used his motorcycle while still facing the stage, and triple jumped towards the stage. He fell to his death, and I didn't even have to TOUCH the controller.

That's how stupid the CPUs can be icon_razz
Xyless wrote at 7:15 PM on Jul 24, 2010 :
I agree with Haloman, that CPU video was honestly pathetic (not the CPU, the fact that the video was even put on an article at all), and definitely not a level 9. Level 9 CPUs airdodge at the first possible frame they can.

I agree with Xyless who agrees with Haloman
ZeWan wrote at 8:30 PM on Jul 24, 2010 :
Don't have a video, but if you use snake and down-throw them near the ledge, most cpus (inc lvl9) will roll to the edge. Just repeat grabs standing close to them on the ledge and their damage should rack up. just my cpu, maybe not to others.
Behemoth wrote at 10:03 PM on Jul 24, 2010 :
yea i do the ledge run in taunt parties as rob cause it looks kinda funny lol also there is a glitch with the temple where at the far left side of the stage there is a drop through platform that drops to the bottom anyways i see people do some glitch where it looks like there falling through but the staying in the air?? lol idk how to do it but it looks fun also pivot walking in taunt parties is funny especially when the other people try and they hit you cause they cant do it XD.
Behemoth wrote at 10:08 PM on Jul 24, 2010 :
also snake is the easiest lvl9 hardest is luigi though fighting lvl9s isnt recomended
Xyless wrote at 11:35 PM on Jul 24, 2010 :
Snake is easy as a CPU, but like I said, that wasn't a Snake because he did not airdodge at all when he had a window to.
