Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

*ahem*

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaack, and better than ever. With school over for the year, I’ll be writing again for AiB about once a week all summer. So buy your C2C mugs and t-shirts!

Today what I have for you guys isn’t really a Coast to Coast; that will be starting up soon. Instead, I wanted to treat you all to all of the information I could dig up about this year’s E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), along with some bold predictions, hopeful wishing and, of course, a completely objective analysis of some of the biggest companies’ showings without a trace of bias whatsoever. Because that’s how I roll.

So what do you say we get this started? Here’s how it’s going to work: I’m splitting the article up into sections for the big three (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo), along with a fourth section for any notable third parties I may have missed. Ready?

So, if this article feels a little rushed, that's because it is. I wasn't expecting to have to leave before 5pm today, but eh, what can you do?

Anyway, this week you can read about New Super Mario Bros. Wii, in case you haven't realized that from the title. But on top of that, I'm spilling the beans on a new DS slated for 2010, as well as a new use for your Xbox 360 controller. Can you say, magical?

No seriously. Can you?

Howdy fellas! How's it hangin'? Yeah, so, in case you didn't notice, I've been missing (again). My johns include school hitting me harder than I thought, computer issues hitting me even harder than that, and traveling plans occurring the past two Fridays. My bad. But let's move on.

This week, I've got some new stuff to bring to the table. First off, I'm going to be doing this article as a bi-weekly series from now on, simply because it's much easier to account for the random happenings of life within two weeks' time. As much as I want to stay current and post every week, the past month has taught me that at 20 years old, trying to set up the life I'm going to be forced to live for the rest of eternity, a rant about videogames should be the last of my worries. So look for me every other Friday, where 60% of the time, I should be right on time, every time.

The other bit of news is for this article specifically. Not wanting to pull out the article I'd had written up before, I decided to look around our own forums for inspiration. In my search, I found an age-old debate of "old school vs. new school" in gaming, and with it, I created my own little entourage of quotes to prove my point for me. What's my point? Without answering with a dirty mind, I'll just say... Read on.

Hey kids, it's me, Grey! Back again.

This week's been hectic with computer problems galore, but I pulled through for ya. Unfortunately, due to said computer issues, I wasn't able to finish my fancy banners and graphics for you, but I suppose you'll survive 'til next week. At that time, I'll have a little surprise for you all; hope you like it.

This week, an article posted by GamesBeat intrigued me, in which they interviewed Rich Hilleman of Electronic Arts (pictured in my LCD HD TV) about various things videogame related. One thing that came up was the prospect of the next generation of consoles, and he said... Well, you can find out on your own by reading. Slackers. All you need to know is that there's Batman in this week's article. Batman. Now get to it!

That’s right. Like an 80’s band on their reunion tour ‘cause they’re short on cash, I’m back. But unlike Kevin Cronin, I still don’t suck.

Now, as you may notice by the new image (it’s that way-->), the C2C has received a bit of a makeover. This is just to keep things fresh and new for the youngin’s. To those of you who’ve read my articles here on AllisBrawl before, though, don’t fret; there’s going to be plenty that’ll look familiar to you. But as for the new fancy images featuring my animated visage, I have AiB’s official cool guy to thank: Spellman. If you enjoy this starving artist’s work, check out his web comic, After Earth! Give him a friendly shoutout for me, will ya? (That’s just so he feels content enough to not charge me for his work. Now get on it or I’ll be forced to program some ad space right in the middle of the article.)

Okay, that’s enough for an intro. Let’s get down to business. In the C2C’s comeback week, what better topic to cover than the comeback of videogame franchises? You know the type: “OMG they’re remaking that old NES game? WTF???” (Just wanted to see how many three-letter acronyms I could fit in one sentence, LOL.) So, without further ado, here we go. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Staindgrey: Coast to Coast #18 – Aaaaaaaand we’re back!

Continue reading Staindgrey: Coast to Coast - Aaaaaaaand we're back!

Hey all. I'm just making this article to inform everyone that I'll be taking a break from writing the C2C articles for a couple weeks while I work on other stuff, including applying for internships and part-time jobs, as well as trying to publish real work to help build up a resume for a future career (will staindgrey make it to IGN...?). I love you guys, and I love making this weekly rant, but other things are simply more important to my future right now, since I'm an English major and I don't feel like living off of mommy and daddy's money for the rest of my life.

So, don't expect anything new in the month of April. Once I get back from my job in New Jersey from April 23-27, I'll probably get back into writing for AiB. Until next time, kiddos.

With the recent announcement of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, I decided to show Nintendo what fans arereally craving. What are you craving, you ask? I’ll tell you.

Also, expect a light forecast of mailbag, GB&U, heavy TWSS storms and pictures abundant. You don’t have to thank me. (But you can if you want).

This week, I’ve got a treat for you. Instead of a long, boring wall of text- which so many of you have kindly and failingly attempted to make TWSS jokes about- I give you a cinematic experience you shant forget anytime soon. Whether it won’t leave your memory banks because of how laughably bad it is or how ridiculously awesome it is, I don’t know; you’ll just have to watch and find out.

Even though I didn’t make a full article this time, don’t fret; I’m still giving you the weekly mail bag, GB&U and other good stuff. So grab yourself a soda and a girl to make out with halfway through and enjoy.

This week’s article brought to you by:

...the most trusted name in super-guaranteed-ness, guaranteed!

So considering that last article was pretty much big enough for two weeks’ worth, I’ve cut down on my length so you can get your head around it easier. Plus, there's a bunch of pictures! Fair deal? Cool.

This week I’ll be taking a look at something that’s intrigued me ever since I got my Xbox 360: why are achievements so cool? It’s a simple and working concept, but just what makes us want to answer all of Otis’s nagging-girlfriend-esque calls in Dead Rising for a simple 20G? I’ll look into that, and more, in this week’s SG:C2C. Read on, my friend, read on.

Oh, hey! Look! I got an achievement! Score.

[PS: Special thanks to http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/ for the achievement images!]

Just a fair warning: this is Strey's biggest article yet. It'll be hard, but you can do it. You definitely have it in you.

By the way, you should definitely give Peachy's Featured Tournaments a look. I hated to take her spot so suddenly like that, but her article was late due to some technical dificulties, and I don't want to make you guys wait. Give her a shoutout for me, 'kay?

Hey guys, sorry about the off-week last week. I was in New York on a business trip, the site gained a brand new layout on Friday, etc. So I took the week off. Now I'm back in action, and what better way to celebrate than to talk about another love him/hate him kinda guy coming back into the action? That's right. I'm talking about Masahiro Sakurai. He's back!

Continue reading Staindgrey: Coast to Coast - Sakurai, Right Back At Ya!

So in case you guys live in a hole- or just don’t like American football, which is a relative equivalent in my book- you’d know that there was a rather big game this past Sunday. There were great throws, big plays, huge catches, The Boss... oh, and there were some commercials, too. All in all, it was the greatest day of the year in which you don’t get any presents. It’s true. It’s scientifically proven.

So where am I going with this? You guessed it. I’m going with the game featuring the name of that old senile guy that commentated for the Super Bowl: Madden. I’ve been playing every installment of this series since before players began to willingly curse themselves by gracing the game’s cover for a few bucks, and I’ve got to say... I’ve got some good, bad, and ugly bones to pick with you, E.A. Oh, speaking of good, bad and ugly, I came through for you guys this week. Why? Because I love you.

(As Neal would put it, I’m bringing you this message “on the brink of death.” But I just found out yesterday that I have mono. So, close enough. Not so funny now, huh honey?)

Continue reading Staindgrey: Coast to Coast – E.A. Sports. It’s in the Licensing.

I would just like to point out that I’ve been miserably sick the past two days, and I still hit my deadline, unlike some people. No johns, Peachy. No johns.

...Okay, so the preview’s not “exclusive.” But it is a preview. The Resident Evil 5 demo is out and available for download on Xbox Live in the States (and PSN on Monday; thanks to SplitHeavens for clarification on that one). Sure, I may be a little late to the party, but it’s my article; I’ll do what I want. Remember that zombie article two weeks ago? Yeah. I’m bringing it back.

As for a neat little introduction like I usually attempt to do... Ah, screw it. I’m still sick. I’m tired. Give me a break. Just read it. Staindgrey out.

Alright, so I’m heading out to Smashing at the Cove today with the artist formerly known as Superkick and his sidekick, “The Selfless One”, and getting my Brawl groove back on. Because of this, I’m posting earlier than my usual late night time. So make sure you give Peachy’s Featured Tournaments a look (Smashing at the Cove is in there, so show up!) in case you missed it.

Now, as for what we’ll be doing today... Well, I had an epiphany while listening to obnoxiously loudly played Red Hot Chili Peppers: a music article. Music and videogames have gone hand-in-hand since the 8-bit days (cue humming of the Super Mario Bros. theme song), so why not take a look back to the future with what music can do for our beloved pastime? I mean, that has to be more important than zombies, am I right? Add in a special undead mailbag, some free badges and everybody’s favorite section involving a Clint Eastwood reference, and we’ve got a party going!

Continue reading Staindgrey - Coast to Coast: The Musical

So, in honor of bringing the series back from the dead (or so it may seem with the week’s hiatus), I figured that this week we’d look at something we have all become quite familiar with in our short lifetimes: zombies. Yes, zombies. Well, also vampires. And werewolves. Oh, plus ghosts, goblins, witches, wizards, Jack Skellington, Beetlejuice, Nearly Headless Nick, and Wrinkly Kong.

To be honest, this is more of a fun article than a real thought-provoking one, so bear with me. I’m doing some more research on my next one, so this week, we’ll just have some fun with some corpses. And no, I’m not a necrophiliac. After we look at the recent zombie outbreak, I’ll go through some mail, hand out some badges, and give you another reason to send an angry letter in to Nintendo. Well, a reason besides the recent Wifi shutdowns.
