The Content Team is looking for Videographers. There are a ton of videographers in the community that make a video, put it on YouTube, and then it gets around 300 views. Why does this happen? AiB has the power to spread that video between hundreds of players on a daily basis. Not to mention that those players will show their friends and then those friends will spread it between their friends, until the video that started with 300 views can have 1500, maybe even a 3000.

Rules:
1. You may not reveal who made each banner. The letters are there for a reason.
2. You may vote for up to 2 banners per skin(though it's fine to just pick one)
3. These will also be looked at by staff members so just because a banner isn't LOVED by the majority of the community doesn't mean that it can't go up ascwell.
4. Do not complain about ANY of the entries if you didn't submit your own. (You know who this is addressed at)

Voting Ends Sunday, March 20th.

It's been a while since we had some new banners on AiB, and although we all like the Holiday themed ones, I think we would all agree that it's about that time to go back to some neutral banners for now. However, instead of just putting up the old ones we had, since it's a new year I think we should have new banners to go along with this. That being said, I'd like to announce the 2011 Banner Contest!

I welcome everyone to submit an entry for this new contest. Along with having your banner displayed on AiB for everyone to see, you also get to earn some cool badges just for entering. I look forward to seeing what AiB can put together for some awesome 2011 banners!

Specifics:

1. Banner must be 964x175 pixels.
2. The banner should have a color scheme that compliments/fits with the skin it is for.
3. The banner does not have to be completely Smash related(doesn't have to have the Smash Symbol everywhere/all Melee/Brawl renders etc)
4. Preferably the logo should be displayed near the middle of the banner in a decent size. You may use this logo or create your own: [click here for logo] (original, not rendered )
[click here for logo v2]  (rendered and edited by Spellman)

Rules:

1. Each entrant may submit up to two entries(per skin). Once a banner is submitted, it cannot be changed.
2. The banner MUST be new work. I'd like to see what the site can do.
3. Entrants will be penalized accordingly for plagiarism, faked votes, and other inappropriate conduct.
4. The process in which the winner is decided will depend on how many
entries we receive. It will most likely involve public voting as well
as admin panel selection.
5. The admin panel reserves the right to rule that the banners will not be changed for this banner contest if
the quality of the banners are not up to our standards.
6. Contest entry must be via private message to Zolga with
“2011 Banner Contest Entry - (Skin that it is for)” as the subject before Midnight of February 25th, 2011.

As you work on your banner, you may post it in this thread to gather opinions from other artists. Zolga will also be offering his opinion on banners. Just PM him with a work in progress banner with the subject “Banner Contest ADVICE.” He will most likely share these with the other Art District Staff members for more constructive feedback.

Happy New Year to all of you here on AllisBrawl. This year has been one of the biggest for AiB and Smash in general. I’ll be joined by Rich Brown and Zolga to re-cap all of this year’s happenings on AiB, the Smash Scene, and give you all another New Year’s resolution challenge to try out for 2011.

This past year on AiB has been one with a lot of changes and improvements that’s made the site much more fun and given our members a lot more to do around the site. We’ll try to improve and add on to the site even more in the future, but I’ll touch on just some of the cool new things added to the site during 2010.

A major change we all went through early this year was a new layout introduces to AiB. It was a little different at first, but I’ve definitely gotten more use to it, and really like how it displays all of the current featured content all in one place without too much looking or scrolling. We even introduced an art panel to it and might even make more additions to it next year to make it even better.

Blogs have always been a popular function of this site, and they’ve only become more popular this past year with more members blogging more frequently. The featured blogs feature was added so members could check the front page and keep up to date on important or interesting topics from blogs they might not have otherwise seen without it and I really like this addition.

With a new year comes new mods, and we’ve had a fair share of new mods this year as old mods retired as well. I even became a mod this year and it’s been an interesting year on AiB seeing how things are run behind the scenes as well as being a part of making the site better and more fun for the members, so I’m glad I’ve had a chance to do that this year.

After joining the staff I helped in introducing a cool new group for all of the Pokemon fans on this site with the creation of the AiB Pokemon League. This group allowed our members to take on Gym leaders and earn badges just like a real Pokemon League, and I’ve been having a lot of fun taking on the league as well as being a gym leader myself and taking challenges from members.

How many of us remember back in the day when trading cards were big and all of your friends were collecting cards and got you into it too. Well, AiB introduced its very own TCG this year with the launch of the AiB trading card game system. This allows members to collect and trade Smash cards with other members and gives a nostalgic feeling of the good old days at the same time.

We even had an unexpected surprise this year with the launch of a brand new Allis site when AllisCoD was announced. This is a cool new site for CoD or first person shooter fans in general, and although it’s still starting out it’s looking like a promising site that will let members compete to see who has the best CoD skills among AiB and AiCoD members.

Our members got to enjoy the release of a brand new skin for AiB this year with the introduction of the Rising Sun skin. This is a cool new skin created by Amethia who has announced the launch of two other skins he has created, the Volcanic and Acid skins, which will be launched sometime early this year, so keep an eye out for those while you enjoy the Rising Sun skin for now.

Along with all of the new features and groups we’ve added here on AiB for our members also comes a plethora of contests and challenges to keep our members entertained and having fun while visiting the site. Along with the regular contests frequently hosted this year we brought back the Halloween Pumpkin Contest this year, started up Scavenger Hunts again to challenge the knowledge of our users, introduced a new challenge in the form of the Who’s That User? Competitions, and also created the brand new Holiday Cookie competition. Look forward to participating in these contests again in 2011 along with any new contests or competitions we can think up for next year to make the site even more fun for everyone who visits it.

With all of the new happening on AiB this past year out of the way, here’s Rich Brown’s review of Smash’s influence offline and on the community during this past year:

2010 was an incredible year for Smash. The MLG Circuit,
Japan’s first time in the US, and the various new challengers to M2K’s
dominance were just a part of the highlights from the national tourney scene
this year. Here’s a quick recap of some of the nationals that took place this
year, as well as a look ahead to 2011:

January 17th: POUND IV:
http://allisbrawl.com/event.aspx?id=7381

Results:

1: ADHD (Diddy)
2: Mew2King (Metaknight)
3: Ally (Snake/Metaknight)
4: KSizzle (Metaknight/Lucario)
5: Shadow_111 (Metaknight)
5: Judge (Metaknight)
7: Havok (Metaknight)
7: Logic (Olimar)

Summary: The new year kicked off with a national
hosted by Plank which attracted nearly the entire right side of the United
States, as well as So Cal pros DEHF and Havok. The top 8 featured 6 MKs, with
the only non MK mains/secondaries being ADHD with Diddy Kong (1st)
and Logic with Olimar (7th). Ksizzle came out of nowhere and beat
Ally, ultimately taking 4th place, while Shadow took out many top
players including NEO, Lee Martin, and Judge. ADHD ultimately won the
tournament, beating Mew2King in winners and grand finals.

Most Memorable Moment: Just about anyone who thinks
of Pound IV thinks of what happened at 8:15 in this match of DEHF vs. Chudat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNP8gI9d6X8
. Prior to the tournament, many people considered DEHF a legitimate threat to
win the tournament. He seemed poised to advance to the next round, but Chu
stayed patient and was able to force an unbelievable off stage gimp. Would DEHF
ever recover from such a heart breaking loss at a national?…..

(Fun Fact: Chu came to So Cal for a regional a couple months
later, and faced DEHF again. The same exact thing almost happened again. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhjcTsss3CY)

Notable Upsets:

Chudat over DEHF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNP8gI9d6X8
Ksizzle over Ally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZCuKkdUv20

April 16-18: MLG ORLANDO: http://allisbrawl.com/event.aspx?id=8195

Results:

1: Mew2King - $2,500
2: Ally - $1,500
3: Tyrant - $1,000
4: ESAM - $700
5: DSF - $500
6: ADHD - $350
7: DEHF - $250
8: Big Lou - $200

Summary: One of the biggest happenings for Brawl this
year was getting picked up on the MLG circuit. The MLG circuit attracted just
about every top smasher from every region in the United States. MLG Orlando was
the first tournament in the series. The top 2 was somewhat predictable with
legendary smashers Mew2King and Ally taking 1st and 2nd,
as well as West Coast’s number 1 player Tyrant placing 3rd.

Final match of MLG Orlando. Mew2King vs Ally:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-19NssjjZQ

Most Memorable Moment: The most memorable moment of
this tournament is really more of a completely unexpected tournament run by two
players who were previously relatively unknown at the national level: ESAM
(pikachu) and Big Lou (Luigi). ESAM’s pikachu got sent to losers early by ADHD,
but he then charged through a losers bracket which included Fatal (New
England’s number 1 player), Big Lou (one of Georgia’s top players) and DSF (top
West Coast MK). Big Lou’s Luigi beat MikeHaze twice (best Marth in the US) and
Atomsk (one of NJ’s top players) to slide into the top 8.

Notable Upsets:

MK18 over Ksizzle
Chaz over Lain
Big Lou over MikeHAZE
Big Lou over Atomsk

June 4th-6th: MLG COLUMBUS:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=276868

Results:

1: Mew2King (MW) - Meta Knight - $2,500
2: Ally (CAN)- Snake - $1,500
3: NickRiddle (SE)- Zero Suit Samus - $1,000
4: LeeMartin (SW)- Meta Knight/Lucario - $700
5: -Dojo- (SW) -Meta Knight - $500
6: Gnes (SW)- Diddy Kong - $350
7: Tearbear (WC)- Meta Knight - $250
8: ESAM (SE)- Pikachu - $200

Summary: MLG Columbus was the second stop on the
circuit. Mew2King and Ally once again took the top spots, reinforcing the fact
that they are leagues above the rest of the community. Nick Riddle, however,
did take an impressive 2-0 win against Ally in winners semis, after which he
announced at the end of this
video
that he is “kinda the best in the world.” Lee Martin had an
impressive 4th place finish after a series of large tournaments
where he was unable to quite break into the top 8. TX’s top 2 players Dojo and
Gnes took 5th and 6th respectively, while Tearbear
(ranked Metaknight from So Cal) surprised a lot of people with his 7th
place finish. ESAM proved his Orlando placing wasn’t a fluke by once again
placing into the top 8.

Most Memorable Moment: The Most Memorable Moment from
this tournament actually came from a match very early in losers bracket
MikeHAZE vs Ook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbnTVF_CgEA
. Ook counterpicked Green Greens in game 3, so MikeHAZE switched to DDD to
counter Ook’s DK. The rest is history.

Notable Upsets:

Nick Riddle over Ally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqhgI5X_0uc
Ook over MikeHAZE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbnTVF_CgEA
Arty over Dojo
San over Rich Brown

Aug 6th: APEX 2010: http://allisbrawl.com/event.aspx?id=9378

Results:

1st - DEHF (Falco)
2nd - Brood (Olimar)
3rd - Mew2King (Meta Knight)
4th - Lee Martin (Lucario/MK)
5th - Ally (Snake)
6th - Lain (Ice Climbers)
7th - Atomsk (Ice Climbers/D3/Wario)
8th - Rain (Falco/MK)

Summary: This was the most incredible tournament of
2010. Hosted by Alex Strife, this tournament brought Japan’s top players,
including Rain (Falco) and Brood (Olimar), to the United States for the first
time. There were so many incredible matches, including Rain vs Lee Martin going
last hit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvmAwdKNfHg)
and DEHF beating Mew2King for the first time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rh3laUIhoQ).
DEHF had a death bracket which included Gnes, Sweetpea (top Japanese diddy),
Atomsk, Mew2King, and Brood, but he tore through every one of them like a pro,
ultimately becoming the champion this incredible national event.

Most Memorable Moment: While DEHF was the champion
over everyone, the most memorable moment unquestionably was Mew2King vs Brood,
game 5 of losers finals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JWp_S_ZeiE.
The live stream swelled to about 3,000 viewers during this set. Prior to this
tournament, Japan hyped Rain as their best player, while Brood flew under the
radar. Brood went from getting 3 stocked game 1 to adapting and ultimately
securing a completely unexpected losers finals victory over the nation’s top
player.

Notable Upsets:

Brood over M2K: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JWp_S_ZeiE
Brood over Ally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR_WN0JLM3w
DEHF over M2K: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rh3laUIhoQ
San over Gnes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfUnLOF-iDg

August 27th-29th: MLG RALEIGH:
http://allisbrawl.com/event.aspx?id=9255

Results:

1: Mew2King (MW)- Meta Knight - $2,500
2: LeeMartin (S) - Toon Link/Meta Knight/Lucario - $1,500
3: Felix (WC) - Diddy Kong - $1,000
4: Seibrik (S)- Meta Knight - $700
5: NickRiddle (S) - Zero Suit Samus - $500
6: TyRaNt (WC)- Meta Knight - $350
7: DEHF (WC) - Falco - $250
8: Havok (WC)- Meta Knight/Marth - $200

Summary: While Mew2King continued his unprecedented
dominance over the competitive scene, the rest of the results at MLG Raleigh
were nuts. There was also plenty of controversy to go around. One of the
stories which grabbed headlines was the pause DQs which took place during
Cheese vs Nick Riddle and Cheese vs Will. Both Nick Riddle and Will were forced
to forfeit games due to inadvertently pausing. Ally, Atomsk, ADHD, and
NinjaLink were all DQed from winners due to being late for their match, which
made for some interesting results. On the positive side: Havok, a top player
from the West Coast, finally broke into the top 8 after receiving extremely
difficult brackets at the first two MLG events. Havok surprised everyone by
knocking out Ally very early on in the loser’s bracket, causing Ally to place 17th.
Felix, one of the top players from the Pac NW, also came out of nowhere and
took names including MikeHAZE, ESAM, Tyrant, and Seibrik.

Most Memorable Moment: Lee Martin had an amazing
weekend at MLG Raleigh, building upon his impressive showing at MLG Columbus by
taking out a myriad of top players including Sean (top Nor Cal player), Zex (1st
in Nor Cal), Big Lou, Tyrant, Seibrik, and Felix, only losing to Mew2King.
However, the best moment probably came in Grand Finals, where Lee Martin
decided to display his knowledge of characters and pick Toon Link. His TL
caught Mew2King off guard and brutally destroyed him, drawing quite a laugh and
much appreciation from the crowd.

Notable Upsets:
Cheese over Nick Riddle
Havok over Ally
Felix over Tyrant

Oct 14th-16th: MLG D.C.:
http://allisbrawl.com/event.aspx?id=9568

Results:

1: The_ADHD (EC) - Diddy - $2,500
2: RichBrown (WC) - Olimar - $1,500
3: Mew2King (MW) - Meta Knight - $1,000
4: ESAM (SE) - Pikachu - $700
5: FatalMatt (EC) - Snake - $500
6: MikeHaze (WC) - Marth - $350
7: HavokZ (WC) - Meta Knight/Marth/Snake - $250
8: AllyOrNotAlly (CAN) - Snake - $200

Summary: MLG D.C. found a way to top the insane
results of the previous MLG events. The top 8 featured some fresh faces with
ADHD, Rich Brown, Fatal, and MikeHAZE all placing into the top 8 for the first
time. MikeHAZE beat Anti (one of the best Metaknight mains in the nation) and
also beat Ally early in the bracket, continuing his dominance over Ally which
dates back to Evo 2009. Fatal beat Tyrant to get revenge from their set at MLG
Raleigh. ESAM was knocked into losers early by Havok (who got another
impressive top 8 finish) but then tore through the most horrific losers bracket
ever seen, beating Nick Riddle, Lee Martin, Tyrant, Ally, and MikeHAZE (and
nearly beat Mew2King) to finish 4th.

Most Memorable Moment: Rich Brown and ADHD both stole
the show and made history by becoming the first players ever to hand Mew2King a
loss at an MLG Brawl event. ADHD and Rich Brown probably had the most
impressive runs of all throughout the tournament, with ADHD beating Lee Martin,
Havok, MikeHaze, and Rich Brown, while Rich Brown beat Tearbear, Mew2King,
Atomsk, Fatal, and ADHD in winners bracket.

M2K vs Rich Brown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrj1ZgtHWjY

Nov 4th-6th: MLG Dallas:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=290675

Results:

1st (9) Gnes -Diddy Kong - $12,500
2nd (3) TyRaNt - Meta Knight - $7,500
3rd (2) ESAM - Pikachu - $5,000
4th (1) Ally - Snake - $3,500
5th (11) Espy - Sonic - $2,500
6th (12) _X_ - Sonic - $1,750
7th (4) LeeMartin - Meta Knight/Lucario - $1,250
8th (7) Atomsk92 - King Dedede/Ice Climbers/Meta Knight$1,000

Summary: Prior to this event, there was some serious
controversy involving Mew2King and ADHD. Apparently both players agreed to a
split of some sort, which was highly frowned upon by MLG, causing both players
to be banned from MLG Dallas. With the only two MLG winners both banned from
the final event, everyone knew the results would be interesting. Gnes, who had
been quietly destroying his local scene since getting 6th at MLG
Columbus, beasted through the entire tournament, only losing one game (ESAM,
who yet again got an impressive placing) the entire tournament. Tyrant also had
a very impressive run, returning to the top by beating DEHF, X, Ally, and ESAM
after losing to Espy early in losers. Ally also earned a solid placing, beating
Lee Martin and Espy to secure 4th place. Atomsk also finally placed
into the top 8 after placing just outside top 8 at every single MLG event.

Most Memorable Moment: No one prepared for was the
complete rampage Espy and X went on at MLG Dallas. Both Sonic mains tore
through some intense brackets to shock the entire smash world by taking 5th
and 6th. Espy’s victories included DEHF, Rich Brown, and Tyrant,
while X’s victories included Seibrik, Dojo and Lee Martin.

What 2011 has in store for smash

Feb 19th-21st: POUND V:
http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=10906

Location: Arlington, VA

Plank is bringing his legendary smash series back for
another round! Plank is doing some pretty amazing things for this tournament,
and many top pros from around the nation will be in attendance? And if you’re
worried about being eliminated too early because so many pros will be there,
there is also an amateur buy-in tournament for people who got eliminated from
pools, so everyone has a shot to go home happy!

March 18th-20th: WHOBO 3:
http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=10692

Location: Houston, TX

Xyro’s largely successful World Hobo tournament! Many top
pros who don’t travel much, including Gnes, Dojo, Razer, and Espy will all be
in attendance. They will all no doubt be ready to defend their home turf!

July 11th-13th: Genesis 2:

In summer 2009, DBR brought us one of the most epic smash
brothers tournaments in history, and this summer they plan to make it even
better! If you only go to one tournament all summer, make it this one. Just do
it, this is a can’t-miss-absolutely-must-attend-tournament. Take my word for
it.

There you have it smashers! We had an amazing year, and we
have plenty more to look forward to in 2011. Support your local scene, practice
up, and come out to these big events!

Now that you’ve caught up with everything on AiB and in the Smash Scene that’s happened in 2010 we would like to leave you all with another Zolga’s New Year’s Challenge for this year to give you something to strive for in 2011:

"It's that time of year again! The New Year is upon us and it's a good time to make some changes.

This year I propose that everyone makes an effort to get involved in their area's offline scene. There are a vast amount of users on AiB that haven't really tried to do this. How often have you passed up a tournament just because you didn't feel like it or didn't want to travel a little bit to get there? There are some out there that legitimately can't but that can't be true for every WiFi player and casual player out there. I am also guilty of not really trying that hard (which I hope to rectify in the coming year).

As you can see by Rich's review of Smash over the past year there were a ton of great moments in the community this year. You can be a part of the new ones too!
No one is forcing you to become more involved but honestly, what have you got to lose?

2011 is looking to be a good year with a lot of great upcoming events. Do your best to get out there!"

Hey there AllisBrawl reader, it’s that time of the year again, and I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I am. The time to relax from school, spend time with family and friends, and check out AiB for the latest contests and competitions to take part in with all your new found free time.

Following suite with all of the Halloween contests we hosted not too long ago, we here on the AiB staff are proud to bring you all a slew of fun and entertaining contests this holiday season as well! Whether you’re into arts and crafts, a puzzle solver, or someone who likes creating things, we’ve got something for everyone to take part in that I’ll be talking about for this AiB Holiday Contests write up!

First up, the traditional contests we see frequently while visiting AiB are having a holiday themed twist thrown on to them.

Weekly Screenshot Contest

First up on the line up of contests is the ever popular Screenshot of the Week contest. If you think you have an artistic eye, or enjoy taking snapshots and pictures whenever the urge hits you, then this is definitely the contest for you. Screenshot of the Week #39 will be sporting a Holiday theme brought to you by Admiral Arban.

Signature of the Week

If you’re big on graphics design, and like making your own art work and signatures, then the Signature of the Week contest is where you’ll want to compete. Doro will be hosting SotW #59 with a Holiday theme this time around, so show off your best artistic skills in this week’s competition.

Texture of the Week

There’s a hacker in all of us, and whether you’re a seasoned haxor or a homebrew rookie, you might be interested in this week’s Texture of the Week #15 is giving you a chance to make some holiday themed textures to enjoy while battling it out with your friends. Look forward to texture experts Silent Nite and HyperKeeby to host a great competition and to possibly include some awe-inspiring submissions themselves.

Who's That User?

Jingleboy is back with another Who’s that User? Contest, but this time around is a little different. He’ll be sharing the holiday story from one lucky user with all of us. If you have a hilarious or amazing story to share from a past holiday experience then make sure to drop Jingleboy a PM with your story so it has a chance to be chosen when this edition is published.

With the regular contests out of the way, time to get to talking about the not so frequent contests that we’re hosting specifically for the holiday season here on AiB!

Holiday Cookie Competition

Jingleboy is introducing a new contest this year unique to these AiB Holiday Contests. This will be a Holiday Cookie Contest where members will be asked to create a cookie desert item of their choice in this competition for a chance at some brand new badges! If you’re into baking or making Holiday treats that you’d enjoy eating after all the hard work you put into it then feel free to give this competition a shot.

AiB Winter Banner Contest

We all enjoyed the Halloween banner contest, but I think we’ve all enjoyed the winning banners from that contest for a while now. Zolga is bringing us all a Winter Banner Contest for us to enjoy some Winter themed banners for this time of the year. If you want your banner to be seen by everyone on the site, then don’t hesitate to enter this contest for any or all five of the current AiB skins.

Stage Contest

Jarvitz is bringing back the Stage Builder Contest that we all enjoyed for Halloween, but this time we’re presented with a Holiday Custom Stage Contest. Just like last time, there will be two different categories you can enter to win in, a regular stage contest and a contest with hacks. If you enjoy making your own stages, or want to give it a shot, then you’ll enjoy this contest.

Decorative Profile Event

The Decorative Profile Contest started last year for the Holidays, and it makes its grand return with the ’10 Holiday Decorative Profile Contest. Check out the group to sign up to have your profile judged by Miles of SmashWiki and this season’s other judges, as well as read the rules for this season’s competition. Take the chance to get into the spirit of the Holidays by decorating your profile for this contest.

AiB Karaoke Contest

A contest we’ve only held once so far is being brought back with a Holiday spin on it. I’m talking about the AiB Karaoke Contest! Shiro The SnowWolf will be hosting a Holiday edition of the Karaoke contest where everyone will be asked to sing their favorite Holiday song. Check out his blog about it for more details regarding this contest, and to enter for your chance to win.

‘Tis the season for giving, and the AiB staff is being extremely generous this year with so many different opportunity for our members to compete and win so many badges and prizes, it’s almost impossible to not get into the Holiday spirit because of this.

We hope to see everyone compete, have fun, and enjoy themselves this Holiday season! ^^

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  As you may have noticed, October is upon us and autumnal feelings are everywhere.  A chilling and frightening atmosphere is looming -- ah, you've felt it as well?  And where else would you go in the time leading up to Halloween but your old haunt: All is Brawl?

There are a number of fun and exciting activities for this month following the theme of Halloween, and you're invited to participate in any or all of them!  Welcome the opportunity for a challenge and competition!  Let's get into the contests you'll have to choose from, shall we?  We'll begin with our recurring contests and their special Halloween editions!

Weekly Screenshot Contest

For you who are masters of snapshots within Brawl itself, we have just the competition for you!  Weekly Screenshot Competition #37 is designed for your Halloween enjoyment.  Will your skills at in-game photography net you the victory?  This contest is managed by none other than the Augured to be Awe-inspiring Arban.

Signature of the Week

Maybe you'd rather apply your skills to computer graphics?  Look no further than SOTW #57 - Halloween!  Do your skills match up with AiB's top graphical artists?  Can you sign your way to becoming this contest's winner?  This competition is managed by the Diabolical Duo of Doro and Revenant.

Texture of the Week

Are you the most elite of hackers?  Care to try your hand at designing an appropriately Halloween-themed texture hack for Brawl?  Drop on by to the TotW 14 - Halloween and submit your entry.  Will your design earn you the title of Texture Master?  This contest is managed by the Malevolent Midnite and the Horror HyperKeeby.

Who's That User?

Think you've got a better chance of spotting users out of a crowd? Go for the gold in Who's That User? #13 (Halloween Hunt). The special twist for this particular edition can be found in Who's That User? #12, so be sure to check out that edition for all the info! This contest is managed by the Icy Invinciboy.

And now for our four special events!  These are rare opportunities here, folks!

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Back circa a certain Halloween crash, there was a contest to carve your own pumpkin (in real life folks!) for a competition.  Now it's back and looking to bring excitement to the realm of jack-o'-lanterning!  What shapes can you conceive of for your entry?  Can you carve your way to the top of the pumpkin patch?  See entries from '08 and submit your own work in the Pumpkin Carving Contest!  forum thread.  This contest is managed by the Sinister Sumer.

AiB Banner Contest

Four Five skins.  Two badges.  One chance for victory.  The AiB Graphics Department is looking for Halloween banners designed by YOU -- members of the AiB community.  Your banner, if selected, will grace the site's most seen location at the top of every page.  Drop by the Official Banner Contest Thread for more information, and look for your entry at the top of the site come the end of the month!  This contest is managed by the Zen of Fright Zolga.

Stage Contest

Are you a master architect?  Looking to compare your skills in Brawl's Stage Builder?  Try out the brand new Halloween Custom Stage Contest and see if your stage can become the site of the most climactic of Halloween fights!  Can you bring home the gold in construction?  This contest is managed by the Jarring Jarvitz.

Decorative Profile Event

Maybe you want to stick to just dressing up your own profile for Halloween.  Don't think the competition won't be fierce just because you're decorating, though.  The variety of entries to this contest are always incredible and exciting.  You can make your way to the AiB Decorative Profile Events group for more details.  Submissions will be judged by a panel of five judges, headed by yours truly, the Mysterious Miles of SmashWiki.

Badge prizes abound for these contests, and winners may also find that they have earned rarer trading cards for their efforts.  These are in addition to the bragging rights, of course.

We hope to see you around!  Keep an eye out for ghosts and have fun!

A DS cover mockup was leaked on Masahiro Sakurai's developers blog late last night.
The image was removed but a few visitors managed to snag copies of the image.

Happy New Year people of AiB!

Some of you may remember that a year ago I ran an event that required you to main your most hated character. I can assure you that this year's theme is going to be even better.

As I'm sure you all know within the competitive community you can play Singles or Doubles.
There are people who love Singles and have never thought to branch out and there are those who love Doubles and can't play without working as a team.
I bet that if those people honestly tried they could find something about the other mode that they enjoyed.
I challenge you to play that other game mode for an entire month(or even longer if you'd like). This doesn't mean you aren't allowed to play your old way but
you just have to spend more time in the mode you are unfamiliar with.

This year I also have another challenge for you all to attempt.
When people think of Smash they usually imagine two(or four) characters fighting to take each other's stocks.
What people don't think about are the players that spend hours just trying to improve their time by half a second on a Target Test.
I'm talking about Stadium players, the overlooked part of the Smash community.
I challenge you to learn how to play Stadium(Stadium players I encourage you to try giving the Competitive scene a chance).

Please join this group if you want to participate!

Hello AiB, Zolga here with a (hopefully) new regular addition to the news lineup.
All too often, questions go unanswered on large websites such as AiB.
I'm going to change that. You may submit any question about AiB or things related to it (Smash in general) to me.
I will then do my best to research and answer the question as completely as I can.

A lot is riding on the results of Genesis. Players will be flocking from all over to prove their might.
Among these players stand the best of the best, the pros. M2K, Ally, Tyrant, FICTION, NinjaLink, Typh, and many others will be attending. There will be so much talent all in one place. Anything can happen!
Will M2K once again rise above all others? Will Ally knock him down?
Today I bring you an interview with three top players. Two come from the East and one from West!

Atomsk-Don't get grabbed!
Zolga: To start things off, who are you?
Atomsk: I'm Atomsk. I'm mostly known for my King DeDeDe but I'm trying to play the Ice Climbers more because I find them more fun.
Atomsk: I still have a very good King DeDeDe though. People tell me I look like I'm thinking really hard when I play him.
Zolga: You put on your serious face; Brawl is serious business remember?
Atomsk: I guess you could say that.
Zolga: Now to a topic that we all are interested in. How do you feel about the huge amount of Brawl talent that will be attending Genesis?
Atomsk: I think it will be an interesting experience.
Even when I was just starting out, I always wanted to meet out of state players. Just to meet new people. I loved to see the difference in playstyles.
Zolga: Thats good, do you feel you made a good impression?
Atomsk:Yeah, I'm glad that most people have liked me so far.
Zolga: Spread the love Atomsk.
How do you feel the international players will do?
Atomsk: For Brawl?
Zolga: Both Melee and Brawl please.
Atomsk: I believe that the ones playing Melee will do well, but I'd expect America to out place most of them.
Japan scares me though.
Zolga: Do you think our talent will be too much for them?
Atomsk: Whenever you go into enemy territory its natural to feel overwhelmed. As long as you keep calm and play smart you will do just fine.**
Zolga
: What do you think about the low tier mains?
Atomsk: To be honest I know I'll get hate for this.
Low tiers are nothing but gimmicks in this game.
Few low tier characters have potential.
Zolga: You know I main a low tier *ANGER*
Zelda/Shiek kicks butt.
Atomsk: Good, I think that they are underrated.
Zolga: Most low tier mains moan and whine about how high tiers are cheap. Personally I like the challenge.
Atomsk: Most of them are scrubs. To be honest in this game being challenged by characters like Meta Knight, Diddy Kong, Wario, and the Ice Climbers are actually really fun.
Zolga: I love playing Meta Knights actually.
Atomsk: Me too, NJ has so many scrub Meta Knights.
Zolga: I feel that to beat high tiers you just need to learn the matchup.
Atomsk: Yeah, if you don't feel like putting in the effort to learn matchups you shouldn't call anything cheap.
Zolga: My fellow low tier mains will hate me for this, Go learn a high tier! Stop crying and moaning!
Atomsk: That'd honestly be a good thing.
Zolga: What do you think about the Melee talent?
Atomsk: I think there will be a good amount of it.
I want to see M2K beat Mango for once.
I gotta believe in my East Coast buddy.
Zolga: East Coast for the win!
Zolga: Which region do you think brings the most to the tournament?
Atomsk: In Brawl, I think EC is bringing a lot of talent.
In Melee WC is bringing the skill.
Zolga: Who do you think will triumph in Brawl Singles?
Atomsk: M2K or Ally to be honest.
I hope I do well though.
Zolga: A couple more then we are done.
What do you prefer Brawl or Melee?
Atomsk: I like both equally, I'll play Brawl more only because I am better at it.
Zolga: What do you think are the chances of some unknown player rising to the top?
Atomsk: For Brawl it's possible. Often WiFi players do good in tournaments.
Zolga: Last one.
Will Genesis even finish?
Atomsk: Hell no.
Zolga: Any shoutouts?
Atomsk: I love you Mike Haze! Eggz and his "ADD"!
I'm looking forward to meeting FICTION.
Zolga: Thank you for taking time to be interviewed.

Jem-Fear the Tornado!
Zolga: Let's get this started! Who are you?
Jem: I'm Jem, a MetaKnight main from Washington.
Zolga: A MetaKnight main? How original!
Jem: PLAY TO WIN! No, I'm kidding he is just fun.
Zolga: How do you feel about the boatload of talent that is going to be at Genesis?
Jem: I think it will be really exciting. Every character has a few really good representatives. Even the low tiers, I have a feeling that a lot of the top tier players will be caught off guard. It's cool that even Australians are coming.
Zolga: What about our players?
Jem: I'm very excited for Ally/M2K/DSF/Tyrant/DEHF/Fiction and all the other pro talent to be at one tournament to see who's the best.
Zolga: How do you think the international players will adapt to our style?
Jem: I personally haven't kept up with the out of country talent. I know Japan is really good, but I'm not sure if Australia is any good. I guess we will find out. I feel that our talent will be too much for them though.
Zolga: What do you think about the low tier mains?
Jem: I think because most low tier mains study the high tier matchups, they can cause some upsets.
Zolga: I'm a low tier main myself, but even I don't think they have much of a chance agianst the high tiers.
Jem: M2K, Ally, DSF, and Tyrant are too good.
Zolga: At the top of the crop we have your very own main, MetaKnight. How do you feel the non-Meta players will do?
Jem: Everyone studies the matchup so it's hard to win even as a MetaKnight main like myself
Zolga: I just feel if you learn the matchup you have a shot at winning; don't whine about how they are so cheap
Jem: Yeah that's pretty much how I feel too. A lot of people just want tournaments to be easier. I still don't see Metaknight getting banned though even if he wins. Sure some of us play this at or near a pro-level, but there's never been a character ban in Smash before. Everyone knows Smash is considered a party game forced competitive, so I don't see it happening, its still fun.
Zolga: What do you think about the Melee talent?
Jem: I think that the Melee talent is incredible.
I personally don't see anyone beating Mango though. I am rooting for some underdogs, particularly from Washington. I hope Silent Wolf and Eggz do well. I see M2K maybe taking a set in finals if Mango sandbags, but not the final set.
Zolga: Which region do you think brings the most skill to the tournament?
Jem: California, hands down. California has the best melee player in the world, and arguably the best brawl players(s) in the world. I think most the regions showing up to Genesis are strong, considering all that's on the line. We're about to show you that Washington is a strong region too.
Zolga: Gotta represent your region.
Jem: I love Washington!
Zolga: Do you think M2K will rape singles?
Jem: I've been talking with M2K lately. I think it's fifty-fifty on if he'll win. Ally proved it's possible to beat M2K, even when he's trying. I know DSF has been practicing hard to reach the top again. I'm going to go ahead and say that I do think M2K will win singles. Though I think a few can give him a good run for his money.
Zolga: A few more questions.
Do you prefer Brawl or Melee?
Jem: I prefer Brawl but I think Melee is the better game.
I'm pretty good at Melee too and I do think it is more fun.
Zolga: I like that attitude; I feel both bring different things to the table.
Jem: Absolutely. It's too bad the communities hate each other.
I'm a big fan of both.
Zolga: I suck at Melee but I still think it's fun.
Last one.
Zolga: Do you think Genesis will even finish?
Jem: I predict it will finish at 4 AM in the morning.
Better reschedule those Sunday morning flights.
Jem: I'm confident in Sidefx and D.B.R. to do a good job.
Zolga: Thanks for taking time to talk with me. Do you have any shoutouts?
Jem: Shoutouts to Eggz, Washington, my SoCal friends, and everyone who's rooting for me! Thanks a bunch and everyone COME TO GENESIS. And come to TOURNEYPLAY in October! Tyrant/M2K/DSF are coming! You'll have fun in Washington!

Inui- Master of Doubles
Zolga
: Let's get going! Who are you?
Inui: Inui (Lucas DeLorenzo), I main Meta Knight, Snake, and Ike.
Those are the characters I use in tournaments.
Zolga: I heard you prefer doubles to singles; Why is that?
Inui: I find doubles to be a lot more fun, so I'm more motivated. I think it takes a lot of actual skill instead of just abusing top tier characters and camping the whole time. I like teamwork and having a lot of things happening at once.
Zolga: Who would you say has been your best partner?
Inui: Mew2King and Atomsk by far. I almost always team with Atomsk. We have opposite play styles and know the other's style so well. It works out. I can play any role and team with anyone good and be pretty successful, though. I've been with ksizzle, ChuDat, teh_spamerer, Bum, to name a few.
Zolga: What are you excited for at Genesis?
Inui: Brawl doubles and regional crews. I'm the captain for Atlantic North, so there's a lot of pressure on me to lead my team to victory. I'm worried that if we lose, West Coast will think they're better even though we're using a lot of B team players and are deprived of many powerhouses while they won't be. In Brawl doubles, I need to make cash because I'll be far in the hole if I don't make my money back.
Zolga: What do you expect from Brawl Singles?
Inui: No idea, really...I'm going to actually try this time, even if it means camping and being all boring. I'm hoping Atomsk, NinjaLink, Mew2King, ADHD, and the other powerhouses from my region do well. I'm especially hoping they stop the Meta Knights from taking all of the top spots. I expect Mew2King to win and for Ally to place extremely well, but everything else is up for grabs between the top players.
Zolga: What about Melee Singles?
Inui: I really hope Mew2King finally beats Mango, but he probably won't because he plays way too much Brawl.  Mew2King needs to realize that his 2007 skill won't beat Mango. So, I'm expecting Mango to win and for Mew2King to take second. After that, I don't have any idea. I want to see Kage win because I love Ganondorf and admire the way Kage plays and his sportsmanship.
Zolga: What do you think of all the international players coming to Genesis?
Inui: I'm really excited about that!  I want to see how they stack up against us. I got into the SBR not too long ago and got to know and interact with some of the best minds in Europe and Australia. I'm looking forward to meeting them.  Their metagames are different, so I want to see how they play.
Zolga: Do you think that any international players will place well?
Inui: I don't really expect it, to be honest. They might, and I'm not saying they're bad, but I just believe that the skill level here is higher. Their lack of high level Meta Knight experience may hinder there ability to place.
Zolga: Speaking of Meta Knight, how do feel about his potential ban?
Inui: I'm extremely anti-ban. I'm even working hard on the anti-ban team in the SBR right now. Because I see him lose so frequently to other characters here, I don't believe he should be banned. I'm hoping that our Meta Knight slayers take out all of the Meta Knights at Genesis to prove it. Go Atomsk, ADHD, NEO, Pierce, Vex, Malcolm, and NinjaLink!
Zolga: Meta Knight slayers, the community will love that.
You don't expect any Ganondorf's to be winning?
Inui: Um...he's the worst character by far. All of his moves are slower than reaction time, meaning he can't ever win against anyone with a brain. It's really sad since he's my favourite character ever. At least he's usable in Melee.
Zolga: Which region do you feel brings more to the tournament?
Inui: West Coast because it's their home region. They will have all of their powerhouses there and have a big advantage.  Mew2King also said their top players are a bit better than ours. I'm excited to see what happens. I hope Atlantic North brings a strong anti-Meta Knight metagame to their attention and wins.
Zolga: What do you think are the chances of some unknown placing well?
Inui: It's almost impossible. The established top players are too good and too numerous
Zolga: Do you even think Genesis will finish?
Inui: Yeah. The hosts seem to really know what they're doing, and I'll gladly help them if they need it.
Zolga: Which game do you prefer?; Melee or Brawl.
Inui: I have more fun playing Melee, but Brawl has more people and more money right now.
Zolga: What do you think of people calling Brawl a party game?
Inui: It is. Just like Melee and 64. They're all party games than we limited and created rules for in order to make them competitive by our own definition of competitive.
Zolga: That was a very well thought out answer. I expected you to go into "rage mode".
Inui: I try to be logical.
Zolga: Well we are done here, do you have any shoutouts?
Inui: Well... I've already shouted out my Atlantic North homies, no? I'm looking forward to meeting people like Praxis, Fiction, SK92, and other West Coast pros. I'm super excited for this weekend.  SHOUTOUT TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY!  LET'S MAKE THIS THE BEST TOURNAMENT EVER!

**Very Good Advice

There are so many fantastic, talented players in the playoffs that it's tough to keep track of all of the personalities and people involved. That's why the ladder content team here at AllIsBrawl decided to do a series of interviews featuring some of the top finishers of the Spring 2009 ladder.

Zolga: Thanks for taking time to talk to me. Would you mind telling me about yourself?
Samboner: My real name is Sam. I like taking long walks on the beach at night, hot showers, and just having fun.
Zolga: Haha, right. Good honest answer. What do you like about Smash?
Sam: When I was little I played Nintendo games (Mario, Metroid, etc). I guess I like Smash because I like playing as Nintendo characters.
Zolga: Why did you join AiB?
Sam: I used to go to GameFaqs for matches. Everyone left me for AiB. So I joined too.
Zolga: Would you say you are addicted to the Ladder?
Sam: Well not really...No I'm not, addicted would be CutestLittleLucario. He has like six hundred matches. I have like one hundred.
Zolga: Stop hating :P
Sam: No, I'm just saying.
Zolga: Haha I know. Okay, describe your most recent Playoff match.
Sam: My match with Dabuz was...intense.
Zolga: Haha, wow, that sounds intense alright.
Sam: His Olimar is too good.
Zolga: What would you describe your play style as?
Sam: I spam nado. Uhhh, spam I guess.
Zolga: So you don't see spam as a bad thing?
Sam: Whatever it takes to win baby.*
Zolga: What do you like most about a good match? How about your one against Dabuz as an example.
Sam: I learn from good matches. Against Dabuz I learned that Olimar was cheap and annoying.
Zolga: Careful the Olimar mains will smite you.
Sam: Don't worry Metaknight is cheaper.
Zolga: What character would you say you play best as and why?
Sam: Fox by far, his moveset is perfect for me. His speed and down air are great. Lasers are cool too.
Zolga: How do you feel about playing Metaknights in matches?
Sam: Noob Metas are easy.Good Metas, Hell no.
Zolga: If you could choose who would you like to play against more?
Sam: Catastrophe, he is good with like all characters. Its fun playing him.
Zolga: Two more questions and were done. When you win whats the first thing you do?
Sam: I run around the house yelling while naked.**
Zolga: Ok..Last one, why the name "samboner"?
Sam: Well I know on my profile it says I had a boner while makign this acccount. Thats a lie.
Zolga: Aww, it would be pretty epic if that was the truth.
Sam: Yeah, but really my last name kind of sounds like boner. Also my friends call me Boner.
Zolga: That would be pretty awkward if someone mispronounces your name.
Sam: Yeah well I think its funny.

Well there you go. Sam is a spammy Fox, has a funny last name, and is a great guy to interview. Funny too. I hope you enjoyed the interview.

Author's Notes
*He was being sarcastic here.
**He was joking here, really he just said he does nothing.

Editor's Notes: (2)Samboner finished 3rd in the AllisBrawl Ladder Playoffs. He lost to (8)Dabuz in the Winner's Finals and (1)Ally in the Loser's Finals. Congratulations to Samboner on an amazing season.

Have you checked your calendars yet?  The playoffs are fast approaching...be ready!
The competition is fierce and for that, congratulations to the top 32 for getting there. Good luck to you all.

A note to all Ladder Participants: it would really help those doing the updates if you had Main = ___ somewhere on your signature. Some of you have your main there but those doing the update wouldn't get your main wrong if that was clearly shown.  It would also cut down the time it takes to do an update dramatically and eliminate the comment searching. Thanks :)

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for an article on Spam from me! ;)

Good luck to you all.
