Overview
tio is a utility for managing nearly every aspect of a video game
tournament. Tournament organizers can use tio to track entrants, set up games
with a variety of bracket formats, seed entrants, advance the bracket using a
simple visual interface, and view the game's results upon completion.
Organizers can manage multiple events per tournament (allowing them to run a singles
and teams event at the same time) and can optionally publish tournament results
to a web server in real-time.
Features List
There are 5 ways tio can help your tournament run more smoothly:
- Registering entrants: tio
is designed to make all data entry as fast as possible with keyboard shortcuts
and intuitive data parsing. You can quickly add players to each event at your
tournament as they're handing you their entry fee, which you can track inside
the program to make sure everyone has paid. You can also note the names of all
the players on a team for later.
- Setting up a bracket: you
can run double-elimination, single-elimination, or round-robin brackets with
tio. Each bracket style is designed to offer maximum flexibility and power:
brackets can be readjusted, recreated, seeded using 5 different criteria, and
are engineered to produce results with the highest accuracy possible.
- Running a bracket: tio's
bracket viewers use a mouse- and keyboard-driven interface for monitoring and
updating a bracket. The program also includes an integrated game station
manager that helps you track which televisions are in use when scheduling
matches. You'll always know which stations are empty and which ones have
matches waiting in queue, maximizing your efficiency.
- Analyzing results: view
fully-detailed reports on each entrant's history in an event, including who
they beat, lost to, and by what margins -- without having to hunt through a
large bracket image.
- Calculating payouts:
assign payouts to any number of finishers in whatever percentages you desire
using the entry fee data you collected while registering entrants. Reserve a
percentage or flat cut of the pot for yourself.
Terminology
- Tournament– the
tournament itself, representing a collection of events being played at one
distinct gathering.
- Event – organizes a
group of entrants, all playing the same game, into a bracket based on their
seeding.
- Game – a video game or
other form of competition that is the focus of one event.
- Seed – an individual
player's ranking within a list of game entrants. Players with higher seeds
(with seed #1 being the highest) will be placed at advantageous slots in the
bracket.
- Bracket – a collection of matches between two entrants organized in some way
to determine an overall winner.
- Single-elimination bracket – a bracket organized
into a tree structure where losing once eliminates an entrant from the
competition.
- Double-elimination bracket – a bracket organized
into a tree structure where losing once sends a player to a "losers'
bracket", and losing a second time eliminates the player.
- Round-robin bracket – a bracket organized into a
set of "pools", each containing a subset of the game's entrants. Players
must play a match with every other player in their pool, and a player's overall record determines the winner of each pool.
Round robins are typically used to siphon a large group of players into a
smaller group representing the "best" of the lot, which is then seeded into
a double-elimination bracket.
- Match – a scheduled set between two entrants, which only one entrant can win.
- Player –
represents an entity that can be entered into a game. Players can
represent individuals or teams.
- Entrant – a player becomes an entrant when they officially enter a specific
game.
