General
- Enter a "location" value for every entrant you sign up. It's a little more typing but
allows you to use location-based seeding or the
"attempt to separate by location" option to minimize
the chances friends will have to play each other in a bracket. Locations can be physical (city, state)
or social (clan, crew, team) as long as you give identical values to players you'd like to separate
(i.e. don't mix "CA" and "California" for players from that state).
- Also collect player names for each team in a teams event. It's faster and easier to call
a match for "Hugo and Omar" than for "I Embrace My Desire to Feel the Rhythm".
You can view player names instead of team name on a bracket by clicking the appropriate check box,
and can do the same in the Results section by right-clicking a results list.
- Use the station manager! This might be the single biggest time-saver
a tournament can use. You'll always know which stations are in use, how long a match has been running,
and the instant you can announce a new match.
Keyboard Navigation
Nearly every aspect of tio can be controlled using the keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts can be used
to navigate the various sections of the program and, along with the tab, enter, and spacebar keys,
allow the user to create, update, and finalize entire tournaments:
- General:
- The Enter key can be used to trigger most Add or Create buttons when adding events, players,
or entrants. Press Enter after typing in the required data to trigger the button.
- Control+1, Control+2, Control+3, and Control+4 move between the
Tournament, Events, Players,
and Stations tabs respectively.
- Control+P and Control+T trigger the Players and Teams buttons on the Players tab.
- Control+F1 will load the last file opened by the program.
- Events:
- Control+D, Control+E, Control+B, and Control+R will move between the Details, Entrants,
Bracket, and Results sections of an event editor.
- Control+Tab and Control+Shift+Tab can be used to navigate among event editors.
- Elimination brackets:
- Arrow keys will move the selected match around the bracket.
- Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End will scroll the bracket viewer up, down, left, and right.
- Pressing certain keys twice in a row will modify the selected match:
- 1: sets the first player as the winner of the match.
- 2: sets the second player as the winner of the match.
- C: clears the result of the match.
- I: sets the match in progress and launches the station chooser if you are using the station manager.
- Round robin brackets:
- Similar to elimination brackets, with a few slight tweaks.
- The 1 key will set the player in the selected ROW as the match's winner. This is the same
behavior as double clicking the match.
- The 2 key will set the player in the selected COLUMN as the match's winner.
- Page Up and Page Down will cycle the current pool selection up and down, respectively.
